- While not as powerful as the Pre, the Palm Pixi offers first-time smartphone buyers a decent set of features in a sleek little package. However, to be really competitive, we think it needs to come down in price just a touch.

The good: The Palm Pixi features a remarkably thin design and an improved QWERTY keyboard. An updated OS brings Yahoo integration as well as enhanced messaging features. It also offers Bluetooth, GPS, and 3G support.
The bad: Lacks Wi-Fi. The smartphone can be sluggish and battery can drain quickly. The camera's picture quality is subpar and still lacks video recording and editing options.
The bottom line: While not as powerful as the Pre, the Palm Pixi offers first-time smartphone buyers a decent set of features in a sleek little package. However, to be really competitive, we think it needs to come down in price just a touch.

*Thin, sleek candy bar design.
-The phone has an excellent look and feel to it. It is light yet still feels strong and durable. Plus the back is rubberized giving it great grip in your hand or anywhere you place it.
*WebOS software
-Multitasking, applications, synchronization with all your accounts, WebOS offers many features that make you question how you ever survived without it. The two really great features of WebOS, multitasking and synchronization, should be enough incentive alone to purchase this phone. Being able to check my email, open a link from said email into a new tab, proceed to shop on the web, then switch over to my messaging window and chat with someone while listening to music is simply stunning. Plus having my contacts list automatically update with my Gmail and Facebook contacts is a huge help. I could go on and on but I wont. WebOS is it, the future of mobile phone operating systems.
*QWERTY Keyboard
-This is just a personal preference but I love qwerty keyboards. That being said some qwerty boards are less than desirable. This keyboard may seem small but I have found very little issue using it. The buttons are raised at the perfect height, giving you nice separation between the phone itself and the keys. They also have a comfortable feel to them, providing a very satisfying click when pressed. Nice layout and design and definitely deserves kudos.
*Touch Screen
-The touch screen is detailed, vibrant, and most of all, very responsive. The screen looks great and performs very well.
*Multimedia
-The phone allows you to sync with iTunes and download your music. The music player is basic but performs very well. It also supports videos in mp4 as well as streaming sources like Youtube.
*Other Smartphone Features
-This phone offers Web Browsing, Youtube, Amazon MP3 Store, Sprint GPS Services, Palm Application Catalog, and Sprint TV.
Cons
*Mini USB Plug
-There is a flap protecting the place where you plug the phone in to charge, transfer data, etc. This flap is very difficult to open up.
*Boot Up Time
-This phone takes several minutes to boot up. This is mildly annoying if you have to turn the phone off because you will then have to wait around 3 minutes to boot it back up.
*Minor Bugs
-There are some minor bugs with WebOS. With each update they seem to make improvements but bugs still do exist. I've noticed that there have been a couple occasions where my phone has been off even though I did not power it down. When I boot it back up the battery life is fine making question what the deal is. Also when watching videos and you receive a text or phone call, the phone experiences some serious slow down and delay.
As far as performing the basic phone duties it does very well. Call sound quality is good, not exceptional, but definitely good. Also the clarity of the microphone is very good as well, no complaints when speaking to other people. The speaker phone is fairly loud yet doesn't sacrifice the quality at all. The battery life is quite sufficient in my opinion. With moderate usage, several phone calls, intermittent texting, and some web surfing, I found the phone's battery life lasts around two days.
I recommend this to anyone looking for a new phone and wants to venture into the smartphone market. This phone is sleek and provides some truly awesome features. The Pixi has some flaws but no phone is perfect, we all know that. If you take into account all the features along with the price ($24.99 on Amazon.com), this phone is simply unbeatable.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Most of the great features the Pre has, minus the slider

Summary: A great slick design with a powerful and innovative OS. The ability to multi-task with it's unique "deck of cards" is a huge selling point. Once you learn a few gestures you will find the interface is brilliantly intuitive... so much so that you'll find yourself picking it up and launching multiple apps just because you can; when you are finished swiping them off the screen is just as much fun!

Good at first. Quickly went downhill
by ashmarie3 on November 8, 2011
Pros: Lightweight, fit sleekly in pockets, I often forgot I was carrying it around. Camera is good if you can keep a steady hand. Video/audio quality is good
Cons: Initially missing a lot of basic settings like being able to assign messaging ringtones to contacts, the enter button on keyboard sends messages (placed right above the backspace button) so I was constantly sending messages on accident. Almost immediately

Summary: When I first got this phone I loved it, it was a touch screen, it was fast and efficient, there was no lag, easy access to new apps. I thought it was perfect! But when you start adding on more software, it starts to slow down some and some minor lag begins. My mom, dad and I all got this phone at the same time. When my mom went to their app store to download some games her phone kept constantly shutting down until finally she wiped her phone and it began to work properly. When I started putting music, games, pictures, and videos on my phone it was a constant fight just to get it to pull up my messages in less than 2 minutes. The phone freezes all the time, repeatedly opens apps when I've set the phone on my leg without turning the screen off, and drops my calls all the time.
Like I mentioned earlier, after listening to music my phone eventually started to think my headphones were plugged in all the time so I had to start having conversations on speakerphone because I didnt have headphones with a mic on them. Finally I bought the proper headphones and not soon after that the headphone jack stopped working! I had to find just the right way to lay the chord of my headphones just so i could properly hear the other person talking. I thought it might be the headphones at first, but when I used them to listen to my iPod, they worked perfectly.
This phone has been my most frustrating phone yet and I would not recommend it. -

Okay at first, then began to break
by mwedzi on April 23, 2011
Pros: I like the keyboard.
Cons: The phone's rubber backing started to come off. On occasion the touch screen is unresponsive. Now when I plug it in to charge, the screen goes bonkers, puts me in airplane mode, etc. I've had the phone for 9 months, and it's falling apart.
Summary: Phone just not built to last. Very disappointed.

Don't Buy this phone.
by KRITIK30 on March 21, 2011
Pros: The feel of the phone is probably the only thing.
Cons: Weak, fragile, easily broken. Os sucks, No wifi, doesn't have even half of the apps the Iphone has.

Summary: When i first bought this phone I thought it was amazing. Great features, fast, and fun ,but a couple weeks later the phone started turning off by itself!.So i take off the back cover to take a look at the power button, next thing you know the power button falls off! So I figured out a way to use the phone without the power button by using the silence button on the side to get the screen to come up. So i use the phone for a couple months more, then one day i come home from school, pull out the phone from my pocket and i find the screen broken! I don't recall bumping anything or knocking it into something, but even if I did this shouldn't happen unless maybe i fall on it or something. All of you reading this might just say "He just doesn't know how to take care of a phone" but i assure you I take care of my phone more than many others would. This phone put me through a lot of hassle, don't do the same for yourself. Don't buy this phone. (PERIOD)

Good first smart phone, but it can be complicated.
by iCharlie on March 21, 2011
Pros: Phone has a great operating system once you get used to it. Its web browsing is pretty fast too as well. Great at multitasking. I've dropped this phone a few days ago from a pretty heartbreaking height and there are no scratches to be found!
Cons: Speaker is not loud enough. Small keyboard makes texting a challenge. Rubber backing had to be replaced shortly after buying this phone. GPS signal is very glitchy. Very disappointing battery. Voice command and camera zoom are missing in action.

Summary: This phone was amazing right out of the box. But as time passed, it's quality rapidly diminished. The first thing to go was the rubber backing. After a few months of having the phone, I had to take it to sprint to have them replace the back cover because the rubber separated completely. Never had this happen before on ANY of the phones I've owned.
The GPS signal over time got weaker and weaker and now completely does not work for longer than a few seconds. It things my location is often times up to 2 miles from where I actually am.
Very disappointing battery life, even out of thebox. This phone can not go a day with out a charge. The battery icon is misleading. If you look at it, it looks like more than half a battery. However, if you tap it, it will say 48% remaining. The battery will eventually turn yellow with 20% and soon turn red with 10%. Without any use, this phone will say "phone will turn off soon" because it has 0% battery, even if it said 5% battery less than a minute ago. Also, if this phone were to completely die on you, you had better not be in an emergency or hurry as it takes almost 13 minutes on the charger for it to even restart and be able to do anything on it. Even after the Palm ding, you have about 3 more minutes to go.
This phone's biggest feature is it's abillity to multitask. However, it doesn't have the horsepower to do much multitasking. If i'm surfing the web, receive a text message, I can not open angry birds or photos because phone will prompt to throw away cards to make room, however, it will prompt to throw away ALL of them before it will resume normal operation.
This phone's call quality is disappointing. Since day one, people often ask me to repeat what I'm saying. My guess is the questionable design of the microphone on the phone. However, if I use my ghetto mobile bluetooth of plugging into my car's aux jack, i can place the phone in the cup holder between the front seats and people hear my voice BETTER than when I hold the phone and try to talk.
This phone's tiny keyboard makes texting or typing a challenge. I've had this phone for over a year and I'm still not 100% used to typing anything. Also note that after a month, the LEDs behind the buttons began to fail and will no longer light up. Sometimes when texting in the dark, the phones keyboard will strobe because of the pressure applied when pressing a button will nudge LEDs or replacement.
This phone is one of the few with a camera and flash. However, the flash is useless. Pictures come out worse when the flash activates. Also, camera zoom is missing in action. My last "dumbphone", and every phone before this costing a fraction of the price (even after mail in rebate) have all had camera zoom.
Also missing are voice commands. Does not exist at all. No voice dialing by name and no system shortcuts by voice.
Last but not least, is the Palm/Hp themselves. They have teased us for months about a product upgrade and updates that will include flash, better managing of the multitasking windows, camera zoom, etc which knocks out about half of the complaints I have about this phone. However, on their 1year press release, they announced that the Palm Pre and Pixi will no longer have anymore updates and that the 2.0 upgrade will no longer be applied to these phones. They promised a special upgrade package for Pre 3 (pre2 was on sale for literally 2weeks before Pre3 was announced and Veer phones for current Pixi and Pre owners. However, it's been 2 months and nothing else has been said about this.
After this customer service and such, this is going to be my last Palm smart phone forawhile. I'm going to take this phone to sprint and ask them to replace it under the insurance i've been paying them in hope to get back some of the features on this phone that have stopped working over time such as Sprint TV, GPS, facebook app etc.
