Palm Pre Plus (Verizon Wireless) price range: $89.24

The good: The Palm Pre Plus offers double the storage capacity and double the RAM of the Palm Pre. The smartphone also ships with an inductive back cover for Touchstone charging and features an improved QWERTY keyboard.
The bad: Speakerphone volume is too soft. We'd like to see a landscape keyboard and camera editing options. No support for V Cast Music or Video. The phone can run a bit hot.
The bottom line: The Palm Pre Plus earns its place as the top WebOS device, improving on the Pre with a better design and performance, and upgraded features. Verizon customers looking for a versatile smartphone to balance their personal and work lives will be well-served by the Pre Plus.

Overall a good device but with several compromises.
by jlc791 on March 4, 2010
Pros: Great interface; generally intuitive operation; beautiful graphics; good size and feel
Cons: Very poor PDA functions; no integration between tasks and calendar; pretty much locked into virtual ?cloud? sync rather than sync to desktop; NO VOICE DIALING!!!

Summary: A smartphone is really many devices in one: it?s a phone, a web device, a PDA, an entertainment center (MP3, pics, video), and a virtual manager through the use of various apps. The Pre Plus does pretty well as a web device with very good integration of information and an intuitive interface. It also does well, within the limitations of the small (to date) app catalog, as a virtual manager of one?s real world. I?m not a big music/video person so I can?t comment on its MP3 and related functions.
As a phone, the Pre Plus does quite well in all areas with one very notable exception: there?s still no voice dialing!! In this age of laws prohibiting hand-held phones while driving, it?s nearly criminal for a phone manufacturer NOT to offer this feature. The phone will communicate via Bluetooth with such in-car systems as the Ford/Microsoft Sync which will accept voice commands and pass them, successfully, to the phone. Unfortunately a standard Bluetooth headset won?t and mine at least appears to not even be able to answer a call as the phone interprets a push on the headset button as the ignore command rather than the answer command. GRRRR!
The Pre Plus is a big disappointment, however, when it comes to its PDA functions. After seven years with a Palm Tungsten device, I had expected that Palm, pretty much the inventor of the PDA, would continue to improve on the excellent calendar, to-do list, and contacts manager of the old Palm OS. Unfortunately they took a major step backwards.
I?ll start with the good and move down.
The contacts manager is the high point of the PDA trio on the Pre Plus. By combining contact lists from various sources into a single entry for each individual, the software makes it much easier to keep records straight and make use of them. The ability to easily link or unlink multiple entries is appreciated. The only thing missing is the ability to categorize ones contacts into different areas of one?s life ? say work contacts, family contacts, friends, etc. The only way to view the contacts list is alphabetically be name or company. The ability to sync contacts with Google Contacts means that large amounts of data entry can be done on a real keyboard which is a huge plus. It also enables importing from other sources that cannot be directly synced to the phone.
The calendar also allows integration from multiple sources which seems good. Unlike contacts, it is possible to categorize events into the different aspects of one?s life ? family, friends, work, school etc ? although this is best set up in Google Calendar prior to syncing the two systems. One huge improvement in the WebOS calendar over the old Palm OS version is the use of color to differentiate events in different categories. Again the ability to sync with an outside calendar that can be accessed from a real computer makes data entry much easier than having to do everything with the phones keypad.
The tasks feature is pitiful. It doesn?t integrate with the calendar so there?s no way to view both your events and your tasks at the same time. It doesn?t sync with anything so ALL data entry must be done on the phone keypad which is really surprising since Google Calendar DOES have a tasks feature and the Pre is already syncing with Google. It doesn?t allow repeating tasks (I know my mortgage company wants to be paid each month, not just once) so these must be entered manually EVERYTIME. And unlike the calendar which displays its information very well and makes it easy to navigate, the task list only color codes tasks for priority but not by category, offers only three priority levels vs. five in Palm OS, and has very clumsy navigation. -
Best Phone Ever

Pros: It has an amazingly responsive touchscreen, awesome keyboard and stunning multimedia features. And the best Mobile Web Browser ever.
Cons: Lacks a camcorder.

Summary: I adore this phone, I got one for my 14 year old and then started playing around with it and had to have one. The web browser and media capabilities and variety of applications also amazed me. And the QWERTY keyboard. And overall how fast and smooth it felt to use the device. The camera is amazing on the Pre Plus, but I really wish it had a camcorder because that is of great importance to me. and video editing capabilities. The resolution and quality of the screen is awesome, too. It plays video and audio so smoothly it looks and sounds like your plasma hdtv at home. I used to have an iphone 3g but I've switched over for life.

Hated it on day 1, fell in love on day 3.
by girlscout68 on February 26, 2010
Pros: excellent internet speed, can have multiple apps open at one time, brilliant display, wireless sync, the swipe of a finger magnifies or minimizes the screen - very fun phone.
Cons: battery life is dreadful, no video recorder, no picture editing options, the gesture bar often takes more than one swipe to get back to previous screens, wish it came in other colors - but that's just a girly thing for me.

Summary: I got this phone 3 days ago. I hated it for the first day & a half, but I was being too impatient with having to learn a whole new phone system after having a Blackberry. The Blackberry Curve and the Palm Pre are like apples & oranges - I was trying to hard to compare the two by each feature. After spending time learning the Pre's functions and how to "operate" it, I've done a 180. I was in love with my Curve, but its internet speed doesn't even compare to Palm. The BB couldn't sync with my work e-mail, but the Palm does. I'm a busy mom & need to keep my calendar & contacts updated without having to input them in each of my e-mail calendars - the Palm syncs everything together in a snap. I wish the battery life wasn't so awful, but I have a usb cable for my work & home computers and a car charger, so keeping the phone charged isn't that tough. The lack of photo editing options and no video recorder is a bummer, but I've hardly ever used my cell phones to record videos, so no big deal there. I do take pictures a lot though, so I hope the lack of editing options doesn't cause too many problems. Overall it's a great phone for me and I look forward to learning more about it as I go along. I'll miss Crackberry.com's apps., but Zedge.com has tons of fun ringtones and other stuff, so I'll adapt!
The Wake...thank you so much for your reply. I found your review to be so detailed and informative that I felt comfortable asking about your opinion of the Pre vs. BB. I am now TOTALLY sold on my Palm, however I exchanged it for the Pixi - mainly beause of the lower price and the "girly" factor - not really a legit reason I know, but I couldn't help myself. Anyway, I love the Pixi as much as I love the Pre Plus, so I am sold...no more Blackberry's for me unless they find a way to make one that comes close to the amazing Palm I have now! Thanks again for responding and making me more informed. I will be looking for your reviews down the road when new Palms or other smartphones launch. :)

Great Phone! Does almost everything I want it to.
by General Knowledge on February 21, 2010
Pros: - Excellent multi-tasking, especially with increased memory on the Pre Plus
- Very intuitive easy to use, easy to navigate card style interface.
- Touchstone charger is very convenient.
- Keyboard is snug but better than virtual keyboard.Cons: - Battery life just long enough to get you through the day without charging.
- Number of apps available less than what is available for other platforms, but improving quickly.Summary: I recently left Verizon last year to get the Palm Pre on Sprint, but quickly switched back to Verizon when the Pre Plus was released. The Palm Pre Plus fixes ...
Summary: I recently left Verizon last year to get the Palm Pre on Sprint, but quickly switched back to Verizon when the Pre Plus was released. The Palm Pre Plus fixes most of the minor problems with it's Sprint counterpart, and I have the added benefit of being back on Verizon's network which has much better service in my area. I have no major complaints about the Pre Plus. The synergy feature helps keep all my contacts and calendar dates neatly organized. I have not had any major crashes or hiccups so far and have a fair number of apps installed. If you are looking for a smart phone that is easy to use, and doesn't require digging around in sub-menu's to manage applications, then this is the phone for you. The multi-tasking is great, and the WebOS inteface makes thumbing through applications easy. The web browser is on par with the iphone which makes sense considering they are both based on Webkit.

BRAVO!! PALM IS BLAZING A TRAIL!
by cserway on February 6, 2010
Pros: First of all it is a phone and people can actually hear me clearly! This is not true for all smartphones! This Palm is intuituve and fun to use. I love the application center... lots of freebees. Speedy response to gestures. Fast internet
Cons: The phone feels warm with use. The battery drains by the end of the day. I keep a charger in the car and office just in case. I do not like the fact that the application center does not take paypal or american express.
Summary: I like the product because it works as a phone and as a organizer! It is very easy to learn and at times seems to think ahead. Amazing!

Beautifully packaged deaf and dumb idiot savant
by Renegade378 on January 21, 2010
Pros: Great looking hardware - nice screen, OK keyboard and it FITS IN A POCKET!
Cons: Works in a vacuum, no communication with any of my computers. An expensive toy for high-profile casual use but no application for business.
Summary: I MUST have synchroniization with my desktop. I do not see any way to get photos off and into my archives. I do not see any way to work on ...
Summary: I MUST have synchroniization with my desktop. I do not see any way to get photos off and into my archives. I do not see any way to work on documents on this thing except in isolation, and what good is that? As an old Treo guy, and a Visor guy before that, I am bitterly disappointed that the company that brought us PDA synchronization has abandoned its defining aspect. If I buy this, I have to carry a Treo or a real Palm to continue working. It carries no useful function for me except for phone and email because of its isolation from my other devices. Hmmmm, no Office type app available? Gee, how come? Oh, I know - it won't sync with anything! It synchs on initial setup but never again. There is no reason I can see why the provided USB cable cannot be used to sync to the desktop other than bullheaded perversity. Now I will have to go to WinMob (spare me!) or Android (immature). Apple not considered - it's on AT&T only (why?!), and I hate Apple anyway. I have been with Verizon in the Northeast since bag phones, and no other service compares up here. Sprint has been so bad the my wife's nation-wide employer had to switch her out to Verizon - Sprint prevented her from doing her work. Very, very unhappy all around, and my Treo is falling apart from overuse. Bah, humbug to all of them!!!!
