Summary: This is day 5 with my Pantech Discover, so let me recap...
Day 1 was great..after I loaded my old phone's SD and all my apps. The discover came with many apps, but they were all bloatware or boring apps. (I thought the pill reminder app was a good idea, but then I opened the ugly thing and was turned off.)
The sound is smooth and clear, both from the fancy speakers and from the ear speaker.
My only issues on Day 1 were that I ran my battery all the way down and it took 6 or 7 hours to charge all the way and moving apps around on home screens is more difficult than on my old HTC Inspire.
Day 2 was OK. I realized that you can't go to settings to adjust all notification sounds. Each app that offers notifications has to be adjusted separately. Kind of annoying. Again, awesome sound quality on phone calls and good battery life (though I did have to charge a while in the afternoon to be safe).
Day 3 was a day of amazing battery. I posted an item for sale on CL and my phone was going nuts with calls and texts. I stayed busy bargaining and negatiating for hours and the battery lasted all day. This is the only phone I have seen that seems to lose more juice from apps than from talk time.
Day 4 was when things started to become annoying. The included clock widgets are ugly, so I forked out cash for HD Widgets (want my money back). I set up a clock widget using that, but it was MIA when I woke up on Day 4. No idea what happened there.
Later, I got a phone call while reclining on the couch. The caller asked me a question, so I went to set the call to speaker and browse for the answer. I couldn't get the screen to stay on. Every time I would move the phone to get the screen from black, it would flash up and then go black immediately. Definitely some motion sensor insanity.
In the afternoon, I played some Angry Birds (which loads almost immediately, nice!). I noticed the screen brightness changing. At first, I thought maybe I was moving the phone and it was the light above me making it seem like that, but then I set the phone directly on my desktop and could see the brightness flickering as the game processed.
So, today is Day 5. I've been getting calls from telemarketers that were blocked on my old phone. I go to block and the feature is no where to be seen....because it isn't on the phone. Sure, this is android, you can get an app for whatever, but this is a frickin' PHONE. Put PHONE features on a PHONE.
My wife texted me at 10:20 this morning. I got the same text at least 12 times before I finally rebooted. After the boot, I get the six or seven texts she had really been sending to me. Annoying.
Basically, this is a solid device that just doesn't care very much for the user. Maybe the HTC Inspire spoiled me, but I expected more from a phone two years younger. My wife wants to upgrade her iPhone this week, so I will be joining her to return this thing (and lose almost the whole $50 on restocking fee). I won't say it was a waste of my time because there are some great qualities present, but those qualities are overplayed in most product reviews that ignore the everyday use of phones.
