Samsung Droid Charge (Verizon Wireless) price range: $1.20

The good: The Samsung Droid Charge has a gorgeous Super AMOLED Plus touch screen. Verizon's 4G LTE data speeds are superfast, and the smartphone offers longer battery life than the HTC ThunderBolt. Call quality and camera quality are also good.
The bad: The Droid Charge is large. It's also pricey, especially considering it doesn't have some of the latest features, like a dual-core processor.
The bottom line: It's not the prettiest or most advanced smartphone, but the Samsung Droid Charge takes advantage of Verizon's great 4G data speeds, while offering decent battery life.

An Everyday Users Review!

Summary: I have had it only a few days. So this quick review is based upon that. I am your typical user. I use it as a phone, email, text, FB etc.
Edit Broken Link:
1. Build quality its nice and light feels good in the hands. I like the 4 physical buttons compared to capacitive touch buttons.
2. The super amoled + screen is the best on any phone out there..... No comparison
3. Using the phone I have no real issues with the Touchwiz interface. If coming from another phone you may not like it but its what you get used to. The phone is powered by a 1ghz hummingbird processor it works O.K. Sometimes the phone lags a bit. If anything that is my only complaint with the phone. Its not a deal breaker but when your pushing the limits of these processors for what you want the phone to do. You get the occasional hiccup. Of course this could be software related and it gets smoothed out in the future. Its really not that bad but something you notice once in a while.
4. NO notification LED's Really unforgivable Samsung. Would have been nice to look at the phone and see a blinking led to see if you have a VM, EM or PM. but nope. They do have a program out there that turns the screen into a LED since the screen uses such little power. (NOLED)
5. The biggest surprise. Unlike the Thunderbolt that I had that would constantly die in about 4 hours of use. I can get a day maybe a day and a half with out a charge. This is what a phone should be. You should not be afraid to use your phone for fear its going to die. With that being said keeping a charger around would not be a bad idea. After all you pretty much have a pocket computer in your pocket. Gone are the days of phones that just make phone calls and text messages and last for a week on a charge.
6. 4g LTE. What can I say it is seriously fast. If you use your phone on the 4g network and are forced to use the 3g network you will cry and find your self getting frustrated. The easiest way to compare this is the first time you used Cable internet, then had to go back home to your crappy dial up. That is what 4g to 3g is like. If you don't live in a 4g network area or will not use it for some time. You may want to look at the HTC incred 2. Its the Tbolts little brother pretty much. Same hardware - the lTE antenna.
7. In summary, great phone you can get it for 250.00 on amazon or 299.99 pretty much any other place. I think the price is a little to high for what your getting. For 80% of the users this phone will last you until the next contract is up. For that 20% of us, when the duel core phones start rolling out at the end of the year, and we still have a year left on the contract we might find our selves itching for more power, and paying the off contract price for those phones are not going to be pretty.

Trying to give a realistic rate here...
by Angry_Cotton on May 16, 2011
Pros: Big screen, 3G & 4G capable, automatic upgrade to the new OS (when available), lots of apps pre-downloaded that older driod users would have to use, 8 MP cam, front/rear cam, nice layout of the applications... certainly a "new-age" phone.
Cons: Not perfect. There are a lot of things that could've been done that weren't (if you compare to what else is out there.) I don't like the way Gmail syncs the contacts so when I tried to sync them using the built-in (free) app of VZW's back-up, my entire ac

Summary: I want to get a few things clear before I put my 15 cents in. 1.) This is my first Droid. Forgive me if I say "common sense" things or mention something that's not considered a big deal b/c I don't know how other vet droid users would rate it. I used to be a die-hard mobile windows fan and was basically forced over to Droid because they are taking over all the phones. 2.) This phone just came out 2 days ago so I've only done so much with it, but wanted to give my opinion up front.
UPDATE: I had to put this on my old review because (once again) c-net has it wrong. The young lady who wrote this said that my phone doesn't support Skype Mobile. That's not true. I didn't download it (and went with another program) because of that, and decided to try just in case. I'm having NO ISSUES with it. No offense C-net, but get your crap together. You all did this same thing on the Motorola Xoom and a comment guy put a list of things that were incorrect in the video. Don't leave the msg if you don't know the facts.
Ok. Being the first person in my city to buy this phone on it's arrival, I was super stoked. Getting to the point, overall, it's a very nice phone. I just have a lot of adjusting I have to do. What I'd like to brag about, however, is what you all might want to know about the device when you purchase it @ VZW. First off, it comes with a 32G stoarge card FOR FREE. If you buy the desk mount charger, it's only $50. You get 20% off AND you get another battery INCLUDED. You will also get 25% off of all your accessories that you buy with it. I bought EVERYTHING that comes with this phone plus a USB car charger and spend only $100 for all the accessories. When you consider that VZW sells their 32G mem cards for $89.99 (and this INCLUDES 40% off,) that is a STEAL, but back to the phone...
I love how you don't have to have any extra connections to do things like listen through your earbuds and so on. Sometimes, my internet connection will just... not work. I just restart the device and that usually fixes that. The screen (touch technology) IN MY OPINION is a little too advanced. On my old Samsung, I could just tap the screen with my fingernail and now I have to use my hand - not a stylus or anything else will do because whatever touches it has to have an "electrical current running through it." Wow.
If I had a HDTV, The HDMI would be cool. With Droid phones, it's kind of hard to say what you like or don't like because it's made to personalize to YOUR liking. Anything else I talk about will be about a cool app that I downloaded, but no so much the phone itself. The only thing I can think to say about the phone is that I hate how quickly the screen goes black and when it does, you have to put your passcode back in it. I set it to not do this but every 60 seconds, but it doesn't work. If that screen goes black, be ready to put in your password again.
I hope this helps. I didn't want to write a crappy review, but I wanted to be realistic on what I thought the latest phone was all about.

Summary: Resolution Shmezolution, pixels, blah, blah, blah, this screen LOOKS better than an iPhone screen. If you can't wait for a dual core 4G then get it, the screen and LTE are cutting edge and will be at the top of the totem pole for awhile. And if you're like me, you know a dual core, 4G, android device won't even make it till mid-morning on a single charge...

One of the best Smartphones Verizon Has
by Trampisjr on May 18, 2011
Pros: Awesome screen, very responsive, nice shape and build, wonderful camera and video, I love the fact the phone is open source. Meaning I can customize it to my liking.
Feels great in my hand!
HDMI and audio outlet.
Battery is better than avg.Cons: Not sure I like the wider screen or not, but its rubbing off on me.
Reception is not as good as a reg. cel phone, but I was told by many people smartphones dont have great reception and I should expect that.Summary: I got to be honest, this is my first ever smartphone and my first upgrade. My old phone, a Razr, which I had for years was a great phone
The ...Summary: I got to be honest, this is my first ever smartphone and my first upgrade. My old phone, a Razr, which I had for years was a great phone
The front buttons are mechanical ones that move and click, unlike most Android phones that have capacitive touch sensitive buttons.
I personally wish they were touch sensitive buttons.
Not a deal breaker for me though.
Some don't like the plastic back. No biggie, buy a case like I did.
Its a light phone and kind of bulky.
This is a wide phone it looks like it has extra junk in the truck.
Its a design some love and some hate, I, myself love it. It fits in my hands well.
I think Samsung meant for this phone to be a multimedia powerhouse, and I think it is a great media phone. Call quality I'm not sure about just yet.
Ive had some great calls and some bad ones, but it has been storming really bad where I live the last few days and I just got this phone so the verdict is still out on that.
Honestly this is a wonderful phone.
I only see people putting it down that don't actually own the phone.
300 bucks wasn't expensive to me for this phone considering the IPHONE 4 is the same price for the same amount of memory, and the Droid Charge comes with a better camera/video..etc.
I'm itching to try the call quality out on this phone and I have my fingers crossed it will be just as great as everything else on this phone. 5 stars!!!!7 out of 8 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This seems like a pretty solid choice if you are planning on jumping on the 4G bandwagon early. Apparently the Thunderbolt's battery is a deal breaker. This phone will last all day, which is nice, but it's still a little light in the battery department for my tastes.
Performance wise, it does freeze up for a few seconds from time-to-time, but otherwise it's pretty smooth and the phone usually responds instantly. I was eyeballing the Galaxy S2, but honestly, I think it's too much phone for what I'm going to need. The Charge is enough. Still, an extra 500mb of memory would not have gone amiss. I am a little worried about how the phone will perform with newer and more resource intensive applications, but for the time being the 512mb it comes with seem to be holding up well.
I like TouchWiz so far and don't see any reason to try to get rid of it. It's pretty simple and unobtrusive.
I have a few minor gripes with the phone, but otherwise I'm pleased. The little bastard was hellaciously expensive, but... I think it will be worth it in the end. At the very least, it aught to keep people happy for two years, which is all one can really hope to expect from a phone these days.5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great phone

Summary: My last phone was a Blackberry Storm and I upgraded to the Charge. There have been some hiccups going from a Blackberry (and very easy syncing) to the Android platform. If you are a new convert or considering converting:
1. You have to setup a gmail account and you sync through that.
2. Syncing Outlook calendar is easy as Google Calendar has a very easy setup and auto sync.
3. Syncing Outlook contacts is a pain. If you are on a network e-mail client there is a sync program but if you are just an individual you have to go through saving the file as a .csv file. Then import in your gmail account and then sync on your phone. There are some apps that make it easier but they don't support all of the fields I needed and reviews show they wiped some data. But now I have this 3 step process for every time.
4. Syncing files is also an issue. But I discovered Dropbox, free up to 2GB, that allows you to sync files amongst several computers and phones.
The Charge has amazing speed, a very bright and colorful display and is very easy to use if you have ever used a smart phone before. But there are some quirks. It added some icons to the desktop when I never intended it to. The online manual doesn't show how to delete but I found an Android platform that shows if you hold down the icon a delete button appears that you can use.
There are several cool apps for the Android market and many are free. Some that are recommended:
Advanced Task Killer - really helps with battery life
Ringtones Free
Google Sky Map - hold it up at the sky and it shows the constellations
Battery life is not great. I am charging the phone every other day and not using it that much. But the wall charger works very fast and the USB crawls. In comparison I used to charge my Storm about every 5-6 days.
Uploads and downloads were very fast and it displays if you are on the 4G or 3G networks. Reception in my neighborhood is one bar better with this phone than my Storm. Phone quality is great according to the people I call but on my end I would say average. It doesn't drop calls like my Storm did but even on the highest volume I sometimes cannot hear them very clearly.
You don't need Verizon Navigator with this phone. I cancelled it and have been using Google Maps program for navigation. It works well and it is so much easier to integrate with restaurants. You can see reviews, rate, navigate, call, go to website, etc? Much more detailed than Navigator and it has been accurate so far.
My research covered several providers and phones and I was hoping to try the Droid Bionic but the original phone was scrapped and my Storm was dying so the Charge was my second choice. I am very happy with it but wish someone would make an Outlook - Droid sync program. Most forums have people saying they would pay up to $50 for that program and I agree ?. File integration would be nice too.5 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Buggiest, most infuriating phone I've ever owned.
by samsungchargehater on October 15, 2011
Pros: Hmmm. Give me a while. I might come up with something positive to say about this piece of crap.
Cons: Screen stays locked and won't let me answer phone calls. Randomly replaces my contact phone numbers with incoming phone numbers. TERRIBLE voice quality. Even worse battery life. Infuriating virtual keyboard. A total disappointment in every way.
Summary: SAMSUNG SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR FRAUD FOR PEDDLING THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE AS A PHONE, SMART OR OTHERWISE. DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU.

Droid Charge - "Charging Backwards"
by Brennschluss on June 7, 2011
Pros: 4G is fast, screen is clear and nice, size is not too bad, the phone is better at getting a signal in weak areas than my Incredible
Cons: The phone response and app functions are slower, GPS signal access is much slower and weaker than my Incredible, no light to for phone charging or charged, mechanical buttons slow down the the phone, but the absolute deal killer is how Verizon screwed Voi

Verizon had Samsung program the phone so that when you try to get to your voice mail, either by a long press on 1 on the keypad or by tapping the home screen voice mail icon, you can only get another screen that gives you 3 buttons, one to get your voice mail, one to delete notifications or a last, largest button to subscribe to the $2.99/month visual voice mail. This screen comes up everytime. They've also eliminated programing your voice mail password, so now instead of being able to push one button and get voice mail, you have to push twice, avoid the ad for Verizon c**pware and then enter your password. All this, each time, every time. I've had Two previous Droids, neither of which required this bs. I just Reactivated my Incredible and it works like a charm. I contacted Verizon support who brought on Samsung. Samsung said that this "feature" was programmed at Verizon's request by Samsung and cannot be changed. I was also told that all of the Verizon 4G phones are polluted with this stupidity. There is no net gain in speed with 4G when you have to spend all this extra time getting your voice mail. Thanks a lot Verizon, the cr**pware kings!5 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.
