Samsung Galaxy Nexus (unlocked) price range: $14.99 - $399.00

The good: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus brings a ton of new and very welcome features with Ice Cream Sandwich. The design is sharp, the screen is gorgeous, and the internal performance is fantastic.
The bad: Ice Cream Sandwich has eliminated some of Android's learning curve in some aspects, just to re-create it in others. There was some static on calls, and there's no external memory card slot. Also, like other Samsung Galaxy devices, the Galaxy Nexus feels rather fragile.
The bottom line: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a big step forward for Android, but it's not the giant leap you may have been expecting. As impressive as it is, Ice Cream Sandwich can be messy, and without it, the Galaxy Nexus is just another Nexus device.

Amazing phone and Jelly Bean makes it even more amazing
by ughxugh on August 21, 2012
Pros: Very quick, screen size & display is amazing, thin form-factor, stellar OS
Cons: A little bulky for small hands, ICS & Jelly Bean have a little bit of a learning curve.

Summary: Absolutely a great device. The original review fails to reflect the fact that this phone has been updated to Android's Jelly Bean (4.1); but we'll let that go. For Jelly Bean changes, check out YouTube--but this phone is very quick, excellent HD-display, thin form-factor, definitely kicks the snot out of the competition. I prefer it to HTC One X even, since it has a stock Android interface, and lacks any kind of bloatware or skins over the UI. A must see to believe, and for $349.99 from Google directly; you can't beat it for an unlocked device. You will not find a better buy for an Android device. It just doesn't exist.

Even better with Jelly Bean.
by nexusguy on August 16, 2012
Pros: Nexus experience gives you a bleeding edge performance and satisfaction.
Cons: It will not be the best nexus phone next year. :)
Summary: I have always wondered why would people buy other phones than a Nexus one.

At $349 No-contract pricing, it's a steal.
by yfan on August 14, 2012
Pros: Fast updates to Android systems (already has Jellybean), great flash on camera, screen just the right size to do usual phone stuff AND read a book, silky smooth and fast operation, no bloatware, HSPA+ compatibility, a true world phone.
Cons: The back cover is a little hard to put back on after taking it off, and this is not a gaming phone.

Summary: I got the Galaxy Nexus unlocked from Google's Play Store, in order to forget about contracts, and of course, I am always looking for Google's latest. The $350 price tag from Google is a steal when you consider it doesn't come with an expensive 2-year contract. That not only means that I can use a pre-paid plan and not be bound to a contract, but also because it is an unlocked GSM phone, you can use it anywhere in the world. If you're traveling, just pop in a SIM card from a given country's carrier and get one of those pay-by-day plans, and you are set.
I put a T-mobile prepaid SIM card in it, signed up for a pre-paid plan, and the experience has been phenomenal (you can also use it with AT&T or any other GSM provider across the world). Mobile HSPA+ data speeds are superb, the phone has no lag after the Jelly bean update. Everything on the phone just works, buttery smooth. And battery life is very good, I think that's thanks to Jellybean's management.
The performance is superb, the screen is amazing enough that I no longer want to watch YouTube on my computer! The phone is small enough not to look like I'm carrying around a small tablet, but the screen is just large enough to be able to read books on it. I also planned on getting the Nexus 7, but this device is making me reconsider.
If you want a processor that can do serious gaming though, this isn't it. If you want super duper hardware power, this is not for you. But on the other hand, if you are looking for a smooth, slim, fast, premium phone that everything (other than hardcore gaming) is a pleasure to do on, the only warning I can issue is you might get addicted! -
Great phone. Hardware is good quality.
by gwhiz2K on May 25, 2012
Pros: Smooth, cool feel on the glass; Extra size is a plus; Fast, camera takes really great pictures, video quality is good. Call quality is good. Great looking phone.
Cons: Speakerphone is a little quieter than my Nexus One. Microphone quality is ok, as long as it's not too loud, then it's distorted. Wish there was a way around this. Flash pictures sometimes come out yellowish if you use Auto White Balance. Use Manual.

Summary: This was a great upgrade from my trusty Nexus One. ICS is for the most part a joy to use, and the OS feels much more smooth than Gingerbread. Graphics performance in games feels very smooth and responsive. This screen is gorgeous. Anyone who says it's too big to fit in their pants pockets must be wearing skinny jeans. It fits just fine in all my pants, which are not overly loose-fitting. It even has room to fall sideways on its own in there, and that's with a bulky Otterbox case.
Edit: Just noticed, I mentioned "4.1, 4.2, and 4.3" near the end of my review. It should have read: 4.01, 4.02, and 4.03".
I haven't been able to test 4G yet, as it's not in my area (Rogers, MB) yet, but 3G and "H" speeds seem quicker than on my Nexus One. WiFi feels quicker too.
Battery life is ok, as long as you don't spend hours playing games. This of course kills the battery. Under normal usage, I'm usually around 40-50% by the time I charge it at bedtime. ICS has some great utilities for tracking battery and data usage.
The Otterbox (or similar) case is a must for this phone (ANY phone I imagine), as it has been dropped several times in the few months I've had it, and not a scratch. Glass is holding up nicely, currently unprotected as I prefer the nice smooth feel of it. No scratches so far.
Other than the odd reboot, phone is pretty dependable. The yellow flash problem mentioned above is apparently software related. I'm on ICS 4.1, and apparently lots of stuff is fixed in 4.3, such as better 1080p video performance. My friend has 4.2 and camera problems are all fixed. Waiting for Rogers/Samsung to push the update.
Phone is stock.
My rating is based on the hardware, very little on Android, even though I love ICS so far.
Very happy with the phone.

Great phone but horrible battery life

Summary: I had this phone for a week and really liked it, but the battery life was horrible, barely lasting half a day with minimal use. I got the "extended" battery that only increased that user time by a couple hours. If you dont mind constantly charging the phone, then its great. For me, battery life is the number 1 feature next to being able to make calls, and this phone fails in the battery department. Miserably.

Summary: People will complain about things, but when it comes down to it the Gnex is the best Android experience available currently. Does it have some minor flaws, of course. Every phone including the iPhone does.
And when Android allows open customization and more capabilities than iOS it's to be expected to have more paths to flaws. But with it comes more options and power. I have an ipad and my fiance had the iphone 2G and 3GS. We both agree there is simply more things that can be done with Android. Installing apps outside of an "app store." Storing, downloading, and opening anything in email. Freedom of music with apps like Dood's Music and Tinyshark. The options are endless. And this is all STOCK, not some hacked phone. -
Great phone, amazing screen, pure ICS experience!
by amw0908 on February 15, 2012
Pros: -The Screen is amazing, by far one of the best screens i've ever used.
-ICS is the smoothest most fluid android version i've ever touched.
-NO BLOATWARE!Cons: -Connection can be spotty at times.
-Feels Flimsy.

Summary: This phone is what it was meant to be, a basic phone that holds ICS on it. It wasn't made to wow with its design like the razr. This is a phone for serious android enthusiasts that want just the pure ICS experience. If I wanted a phone that felt safe, i would have gotten the razr maxx. But considering I keep cases on all my phones, plus I bought the amazing extended battery which did not increase the bulk of the phone at all, the galaxy nexus is the ultimate phone.
