- The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a big step forward for Android, but it's not the giant leap you may have been expecting. As impressive as it is, Ice Cream Sandwich can be messy, and without it, the Galaxy Nexus is just another Nexus device.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus (unlocked) price range: $14.99 - $999.72

The good: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus brings a ton of new and very welcome features with Ice Cream Sandwich. The design is sharp, the screen is gorgeous, and the internal performance is fantastic.
The bad: Ice Cream Sandwich has eliminated some of Android's learning curve in some aspects, just to re-create it in others. There was some static on calls, and there's no external memory card slot. Also, like other Samsung Galaxy devices, the Galaxy Nexus feels rather fragile.
The bottom line: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is a big step forward for Android, but it's not the giant leap you may have been expecting. As impressive as it is, Ice Cream Sandwich can be messy, and without it, the Galaxy Nexus is just another Nexus device.

Great Smartphone-but annoyingly low Speaker Vol-No fix
by TimanAg on January 6, 2012
Pros: Great Smartphone and I love all the features and capabilities so far
Cons: Low speaker volume; can't feel happy about all other features when I can barely hear the phone ring, or use speakerphone even with the volume maxed up. Google forums are full of complains, yet I do not find any fix from Google/ Samsung.

Much more mature android but still not quite there

Summary: I came from a 3GS (which just about never let me down) but I wanted to give android a shot. I've had the phone for about three weeks but I'll probably trade it in for a 4S. There is a lot to like about this phone and the customization is unreal but it still lacks the polish found in iOS. I'm not going to complain about how the apps don't work on all androids, my general experience in replacing my apps is that the main players have their acts together, I haven't found it to be a major issue. My big sticking points are that it's just too darn big and the battery life is poor. I have fairly large hands and it's still too big. I also shut everything off (4G, location services, low brightness wi-fi, bluetooth) and it still loses 10% of the battery when left unplugged overnight. My 3GS would lose maybe 2%. When you get a phone with so many features, you expect to be able to use them without using your battery in a number of hours. I am by no means a power user but I have to charge it at least once during the day to get me a full 12-14 hours. I did some impromptu tests at the apple store and this phone lost battery life at nearly twice the rate that the iPhone did.. through heavy use I was able to rip through the battery in about 3.5 hours. Yes, I had 4G on and it's a big screen but come on... less than 4 hours? You can almost just watch the battery drain if you sit there with the screen on. Anyway, the trade off might be worth it for some people to have the latest and greatest android but for me it's just not going to work.
Oh, I forgot to mention... I have been getting some random reboots.. none today but 3 yesterday. Probably a total of 8 since I got the phone. Not a deal-breaker but something to consider. Also I have been kind of weirded out by all the permissions needed by the android apps... like (legitimate) games want to know the phone numbers of people I call or have the ability to send texts without my knowledge... Why is that necessary? There are many more examples but I'll leave it at that.
