Samsung Galaxy Note 2 price range: $169.99 - $649.99

The good: Oodles of screen real estate make the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 terrific for videos, games, and reading; and its improved stylus aids productivity. A blazing quad-core processor, a great camera, and strong battery life round out the advantages of this Android 4.1 phone.
The bad: The huge display makes the Galaxy Note 2 unwieldy to carry, and hiccups in the S Pen stylus and apps can slow you down. The pricey Note 2 isn't a suitable tablet replacement across all categories.
The bottom line: Samsung delivers a powerful, boundary-pushing device that gets a lot right. Yet its complicated features and high price raise questions about its purpose.

The iPhone Isn't Even in the Same League
by rdgrimes on December 9, 2012
Pros: The screen size and resolution is simply fantastic. I love the ability to write on the back of photos - even though it's probably not a feature I will use much. What I am using is the multi-window display, as well as the browser pop-up.
Cons: None. The only con is that is for this review form, which stopped me at 250 characters. I needed 10 times that space to note all the pros.

When our family upgraded phones recently, as our 2 year contract was up, my wife and step-son wanted the iPhone5. We were all coming from an HTC EVO, but they wanted to try the iPhone5. I opted to stay with the Android OS and go with a Note II. When we got home and we started comparing phone features, you could see phone envy creeping in - especially when they saw how spectacular the Avengers movie trailer looked on my phone.
I thought it might take a couple weeks to get used to the size of this device, but it just felt right from the start, and so there was no adjustment period in that respect. The only thing that made me a bit nervous is the wafer like thinness of the device, which makes it seem a bit fragile. That doesn't mean it's so, but it's just my perception. To kind of assuage that feeling, I bought a flip cover for it.
There are just so many innovative features that it's impossible to list them all. It's sort of like trying to describe how delicious ice cream is to someone who has never tasted it. At some point, you're just going to say, "Here! Taste it for yourself. It's the only way to know how good it is."
One of the cool things is how it takes advantage of phone motion sensing. It uses this ability to allow you to touch and hold two points on the screen and then move the phone forward or back to zoom in/out on the space between the two touch points on images. You can also use the motion sensing to move an app icon from one page to another. In other words, instead of holding a page icon and dragging it to another page, you can simply hold the app icon and move your phone to the right or left and it will move to other pages where you can then drop the app. You can also set a Contacts feature so that you just tap the top of the phone to have it scroll all the way back to the top of your contacts list.
Of course, I would be negligent to not mention how good the S-Pen is. They've really put a lot of thought into actually making it useful. I've had these stylus pens in the past - even bought one that would work on my old HTC EVO, but never really used it much. I find myself using the S-Pen quite frequently now because so many of the features are purposely designed to take advantage of it, from something as simple as creating a written signature for your emails, to drawing an org chart and having the app straighten out your lines, to just making simple notes.
The Polaris Office 4.0 that comes loaded is also very well done, giving the user Office 10 type document access.
The calendar is terrific on this device. You can actually use the month view and everything is perfectly clean and legible. On smaller phones, you'd need to switch to a week view at most.
Google Now is very good as a counterpart to Siri.
I could keep going, but there is one motivating feature for parents to get this, or another Android phone, for the family. This is a note specifically for Sprint customers. If you have Sprint and an Android phone, you can sign up for Sprint Drive First, which prohibits your kids from using their cell phone at all while driving. Yeah! Finally a way to keep kids from texting while driving.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Innovative. Best phone on the market.
by kdinorbit on November 25, 2012
Pros: Beautiful display, endless fascinating capabilities, s-pen is awesome, good sound
Cons: can't turn off shutter sound on camera (annoying), came with the crappiest ringtones haha, i dropped it once from not very high and it put a small chip in the side

Summary: This phone amazes me every day. It is not only fun to use and explore, but seriously the most interesting gadget I've ever used. I had bought the iphone 5 first, and after 2 weeks of glitches, dropped calls, microphone malfunctions, and boring interface I decided to try out the galaxy. WOW. A world of difference. The iphone seems like a piece of old technology next to this phone/mini computer. I love my galaxy note II, and having the iphone first makes me appreciate this phone that much more. There are so many cool features, like handwriting texts with the s-pen, burst shot photography, can make cool artwork with the s-pen and appropriate applications, the list goes on and I'm still learning. This is the best phone I've ever had by far.

The bar has been raised, and no other phone compares!
by alexbox2004 on November 6, 2012
Pros: We all know them
-Screen size 5.5", 1.6GHz Quadcore processor, 2GB of RAM, beutiful stylus integration with out relying on it at all, amazing battery at 3100mAh(Not humanly possible to use it all iCons: If you are an Apple fan this phone is not for you, you will find cons that make no sense like... its too BIG! I love Macs and anything about apple but their iphones were cool in 2007, welcome to 2012-2013.

Summary: If you are up for an upgrade on your line, give it a 30 day challenge, it will take you minutes to love it, hours to decide that it is right for you, a few days to realize how stupid you are for even considering having an Iphone instead, and after a months you can only hope that Apple gets back in the game to re-innovate/design and get back in the fight of a smartphone era, since competition is always good for the consumer and Yes I am always up for getting a new smartphone even an iphone 6 but get back in the game Apple! because Samnsung tookfor the best phone.

by mt2222 on March 17, 2013
Pros: Larger screen great for viewing movies
Cons: TOO complex too many features too confusing compare to itune interface. Keep it simple and powerful for users.

Improve the looks Note 2 is bit better then the note 1 but still screams CHEAP phone! look CHEAP feels cheap! DO SOMETHING make this phone DESIGN PIECE! its design is DULL as a ROCK!
When you open up hte phone phone layout is total disarray. phones larger screen def wins the heart of those want larger screen. Then again this is not a PHONE this is more of tablet. phone should be small compact simple to use and powerful, in that respect iphone wins this war. replaceable battery. larger screen samsung wins.
Screen quality is not even close to Iphone its dull 2 Dimensional flat color has no depth. Color bleeds edges are not sharp. when I compare this to iphone clarity is already evident.
Good phone but still the scroll is not smooth as iphone also. it stalls it stutters samsung needs to improve on that area.
KEEP THE PHONE SIMPLE logical but user friendly NO MORE HEADACHE then you already need from daily life! I almost throw out this phone after gotten frustrated first hour working with this. what is CODE where is the code I cant find it. Called samsung then they put me on hold then hanged up. this phone and PC interfact should be easy to work with. AGAIN KEEP THE PHONE SIMPLE !! this phone is TOO COMPLEX !@

"Smooth and slippery, Very easy to drop."
by JustSayinBro on February 24, 2013
Pros: Android 4.1 OS and 4g capabilities. Integrated stylus is awesome, though the note taking app is horrible. Can send texts way faster than with the you know what phone using the stylus "no lift" keyboard maneuvering.
Cons: Breaks way to easy. Don't even think about keeping this in a shallow or coat pocket, because it will slide out very easily and break even from a 3 1/2 foot drop. Also, the phone pretty much forces you to make a Google account- useless to me.

Summary: The Droid OS is amazing; I just wish I had gotten it on a more durable phone like the Razr Maxx I replaced it with. The Note II is made to be dropped--it's seriously like the thing is oiled before it leaves the factory-- and it will crack very very easily, and stop working shortly thereafter. I know this from experience, and I expect better from a $700 piece of technology (I don't want to hear this crap about I should have paid another 30 dollars for a semi-protective case that should already be on the phone when you buy it, I mean, come on it replaces the battery). As someone who has owned everything from the Nokia 3360 (indestructible) to the Iphone 4, this is the most expensive and least durable phone I have ever seen, by far. The stylus and note-taking features were the initial draw for me, but program for taking notes is setup very poorly, and you can't take notes on a phone that doesn't work. Now I am just sad I wasted my upgrade on this "phablet"; so much so that I elected to pay 200 for a refurbished Motorola, rather than paying for the Samsung repair. I will be getting a Xyboard for all my note taking, internet surfing needs (which, by the way, is also cheaper than the Note II).
Also, Samsung has very bad customer service, and is known for cheapening out on their products. It takes a class action lawsuit (literally) to get them to address their own design flaws.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Easily one of the finest phones on the market.
by BinglesD on December 28, 2012
Pros: Nice large screen, easy on the eyes.
Great for viewing movies and photos.
Overall a fast and fluid experience.
S-pen could be a killer feature for a lot of people.
Very light for it's size, and does fit in the pocket.
Very good battery life.Cons: iPhone 5 camera is still better than Note 2.
Power button placement is not good. Should be placed on the top of phone.
Power button is squishy and is activated too easily. A minor quibble, but one that needs to be addressed. Want a solid feel.Summary: Spend a few honest weeks with this phone and you will be sold.

A Do EVERYTHING Multi-tasking Business Machine
by daehttub2000 on June 18, 2013
Pros: 1) Giant Screen with split screen takes multi-tasking to another dimension. 2) S-Pen and instant notepad multi-tasking is a killer business and personal app. 4) Huge battery life plus replaceable battery make this the ultimate road warrior device.
Cons: Little people will small hands and pockets will whine about the size. Kids will swipe the phone for the awesome game sized display. Sprint only provides 16GB internal memory model. Display is not HD.

Summary: The ultimate power Phablet for big people with poor eyesight and fat fingers and anybody else that wants a do everything phone. Eliminates the need for a tablet for me. Laptop plus the Note 2 is all I need. I can talk on the phone, log into financial site, retrieve excel spreadsheet from laptop remotely and edit it, open another browser window for additional info, and take notes without a pen and paper - ALL AT THE SAME TIME. The perfect phone for former Palm Pilot fans/nerds. It almost makes me stop missing my 5 row QWERTY keyboard on my old smartphone.

Summary: I have had this phone for five months and I am sick and tired of people saying; "Thats a huge phone!" or "geez kid can you fit that in your pocket?" or "Why did you get such a big phone?" This one is my favorite, "Dude, thats like an Ipad Mini." I am sick of it and regret having this phone for that one reason.
