The good: The Samsung Galaxy Prevail has an elegant design and a surprisingly decent camera. It's eligible for Boost Mobile's reduced-rate plan.
The bad: Boost Mobile turned off the Prevail's Android 2.2 hot-spot capabilities. Also, call quality could be better.
The bottom line: The Samsung Galaxy Prevail marries sophistication with good value to become Boost Mobile's best smartphone.

Worst Android Phone
by ChaosTheThird on August 30, 2011
Pros: It's an Android Phone. Mostly.
Cons: Unresponsive touch screen
Meager internal memory
Meager SD memory
Inconsistent web connection
Annoying phone interface

Summary: The Prevail's main problem is its unresponsive touch screen. There are few things worse for a phone than to have to tap an app several times before it opens, or to dismiss an annoying alarm in the morning, or to have a long press simply not work at all.
Update: Nah, just kidding. It's still a piece of garbage.
The Prevail also has a small internal memory, so after installing a few apps - even after "moving" some of them to the meager 2GB SD - you're getting the "low on memory" prompt very quickly. Web connection goes out and in, requiring you to either enter/exit airport mode to restart it. The call quality is terrible; using headphones is the only thing that even makes the phone useable.
Lastly, it has an extremely annoying phone interface, which requires you to hit the lock button and then a slider just to end the call. To show the dialer, you need to use a up-sliding tab (the reverse of the notifications panel), rather than a button, which when combined with the unresponsive touch screen can be quite frustrating.
Perhaps I was spoiled by the EVO, G2X, and Nexus S. Or perhaps this phone is garbage. If you want a cheap no-contract option, go for the Optimus V with Virgin Mobile instead. Or two cups and a string.

You can pay Boost Mobile one day or a week a time ...
by Dumbpeni on August 29, 2011
Pros: Boost Mobiile is the only place where you can pay on a day to day basis meaning if you dont use it everyday like most does.. I am sure there is still many of you not using it everyday. Prevail only available at Boost Mobile is my first mobile wireless de
Cons: I dont know yet but I dont think there will be any for the price of Prevail!!

Summary: I need to know if I really can take maximum advantage of Class 10 SDHC memory card or that Prevail is not fast enough to take full advantage of much faster SDHC memory performance.. There is Class 2, 4, 6, 10 and Extreme ... People are warning not to use Class 2 or 4 SHDC memory for Prevail but Class 6 at a minimum. I want to know if Class 10 will help with better performance for Prevail or that the inner circuity in Prevail is not fast enough to warrant any need for faster than Class 6 or what? I need to know that because I read that apps can slow down mobile performance so I wonder if faster memory like Class 10 will help making the apps go faster or get out of the way faster? BTW, I would love to have a grip/crank (hand powered) type generator to help keep my Prevail charged at the same time helping keep my muscular hands in tone.
Most people dont realize that 2mp cameras are plenty for most of your desktop monitors often measuring 1280x1024 or 1600 x 1050 or things like that... You see 2mp stands for 2,000,000 pixels ( a pixel is a tiny dot on your desktop moniitor and your mobiile screen.. Mobile screens are about 320x480 generally so when you take a shot with 2mp camera in Prevail and it shows in a compressed manner on your mobile screen but will show perfectly evenly on your PC montor . Suppose you have a 5mp (5,000,000) pixel camera , you will need twice as large desktop monitor to show every pixel that you capture with the 5mp camera or some of the pixels will be compressed out unused.. Sure, you can still click on ":actual size" on your pic viewer on PC but you will see a "blow up" picture because your average PC monitor is still unable to digest and show every pixel of your 5mp camera shot within its frame so it can only show less than half of the picture when you choose "actual size" . See?

Updated on Aug 29, 2011If you are getting so curious about pixels .. you can see it with a magnifying glass . You should be able to see tiny squares on your PC monitor.. Each square stands for one pixel.. Same thing in your digital camera.. when a picture is taken whether it is a 2mp or 15mp meaing 2,000,000 or 15,000,000 pixel, it does always mean that each pixel taken with your digital camera or the camera on your Prevail is shown on your Prevail screen or your desktop screen. Software like picture viewers such as Windows Photo Gallery or others like ArcSoft PhotoSuite , etc usually automatically squeezes enough pixels out to fit in your Prevail screen or your PC monitor to make "full screen" views which is degraded pictures with a lot of perfectly good pixels tossed out...continued
Updated on Aug 29, 2011You will need even more than four PC monitors stacked together to be able to display every pixel you shoot with 15 mp (15,000,000) cameras more like 9 monitors stacked together. If you ask me how come 15mp pictures can be fiti in large prints slightly larger than your PC monitors, well , I would answer that we can print far smaller pixels than we can show on PC monitors.. A pixel is about one fifth of a millmeter wide while a large print can print far smalller than one fifth millemeter wide or more like one hundreth of a millmeter. Inkjet printers are extemely precise in tiny details unlike your average PC monitors. You will need a microscope to be able to see the tiny pixels printed on large prints.
Updated on May 14, 2012GASP! I found out that Prevail has really tiny internal memory only 155mb which mean that you cannot download so many apps from GooglePlay before it fills up the internal memory.. SD memory can only help so much because there is always some internal memory being used by any app even if you move it to SD memory.. I assumed that Prevail has a bigger internal memory but only 155 mb and the system uses up a good chunk which leaves you with less than 100 mb to start with. Funny thing is that reviews never mention how much internal memory any smartphone has except for SD memory . Why the silence? -

Summary: I bought mine at Best Buy. Everything was fine, except took me appx. month and a half to get the internet to work, had to call customer care several times. Have to keep charger with you at most times because just like a laptop it will die within an hour or two if you're on it every two minutes. Overall for the price it is a decent phone. If you want great quality go ahead and spend $80-$150 month with a contract deal otherwise just realize that you get what you pay for.

Decent little Android for basic uses
by SpiderLizz on August 10, 2011
Pros: SWYPE, browsing, wi-fi, conversation view with text, easy to maneuver, tons of free apps, best phone from Boost Mobile. Very good for a pre-paid service.
Cons: Not the best coverage, but works great when there is reception.

Summary: I had a different phone before getting this one. My little cheap-o phone had much better reception in the boonies where I live than this one does, but I like this one better anyway. I'm a stay-at-home mom who is not able to get internet at home due to the area only allowing a certain ISP that isn't worth anything. If I put a little foil hat on my son and have him stand on a tall antenna, I can get reception to play Words with Friends...lol j/k! It's my area that causes issues, not the phone itself. Many friends cannot get on their own from other networks. Just make sure all apps are off when not in use, or just un-install if you don't mess with it. I can go a day with a full battery. I charge it fully before I go to bed and its all ready for me in the morning.

the battery overheats and shuts the phone down even when it's on the charger. You have to take the battery out constantly. I sent the first phone back only to get another dud!
This phone has so much potential. Samsung you really dropped the ball when it comes to this phone. There are complaints like mine all over the internet, I only did my research on CNET and they really liked this phone, but I think it's time they reevaluate this mess. I'm with the "shawty" i'd like to take a hammer to this p.o.s
Sending the second Prevail back to qvc and trying a black berry next. -

by toad32r24 on August 6, 2011
Pros: Tons of features, and lots of them are free. Soo many downloadable Apps Ringtones, games, usable titles to do,,, ecerything.
Cons: The battery life length is terrible. The package says that the battery should last 6.5 hours talk-time. Its actually more around 4.5 hours,,,if that !
Summary: Overall, I really like this phone. The amount of features, downloadable Apps, tons of games... there is alot to do with this phone! With so many free Apps to download, ...

Most like a contract phone without the contract.
by coldfishkt on August 4, 2011
Pros: It's a nice size, looks high end and easy to figure out.
Cons: I purchased my prevail the month it came out so it's only a few months old. My battery life lasts about 3 hours if I don't use it and 1 hour if I make a phone call. I'm basically attached to my charger. Also, the phone freezes in mid-text and pretty much
Summary: Pretty phone but not worth the hype. I should have waited until it was out longer to read reviews.
