Nice android, but lots of issues using GPS
by royvanmiral on November 15, 2011
Pros: Just about every feature you want at a great price.
Cons: I've had repeated issues using GPS. Every GPS app I've tried, including the ATT nav app which worked consistently great on my iphone, has had issues acquiring GPS signal on this phone even when there are no obstructions around.

Summary: If you want an iphone but the cost is too much, start with this phone and you will never know the difference. I started with iphone and ended up with the Android due to preferences primarily being finances. It has great connections with Google and Yahoo. I've had Yahoo from day one and google came along later and it makes good twins.

Summary: I changed from an old blackberry that died. After two weeks of use I still prefer the tactile feel of the blackberry qwerty keyboard to the touch screen. This phone hasn't dropped a call and the clarity is superb on both sides of a phone call. Its very fast (in New York on the HSPA+), the screen is crystal clear. The system effectively forces you to stop using Outlook for calendar and contacts and start using Google. I dont know if thats good or bad, just a change but it would be nice to synch with outlook which isnt possible without a lot of extra work. I still cant figure out how to "mark all as read" which is an inconvenience. Good phone overall. Im having fun with it.
UPDATED OPINIONS:
Updated on Nov 7, 2011
I have discovered that the "mark all as read" in email is not currently an option with Android, which to me is a major design flaw. I would take away one start for that. Also, there are no games loaded on the phone just a lot of promotional garbage apps. Disappointed in CNET editors for not raising these issues. Disaapointed in Googles non-resonse to inquiries and in AT&T's apparent indifference. Could be a great phone but at least acknowledge and address mistakes.
Updated on Jan 6, 2012The fix to this problem is to abandon the google email client and switch to K9. Ive been using it for a month with no problems, although it took some to figure out how to turn off the google client. It is embedded fairly deep I guess into the functioning of the handset.
New York just got LTE service and it is FAST on ATT. Great phone. Clarity is still superb on calls. My only complaint now is that the cases to protect the phone are limited and too bulky. They ruin the sleekness and ease of getting the phone in and out of my pocket. Im sure more choices will be available shortly.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Like many people, I had been waiting months to get my hands on this phone. And as you will notice above, there is a lot to love about this phone. I cannot emphasize enough how beautiful the screen on the GS2 is. And After lugging around an Evo 4G for over a year, this phone is so light and thin as to actually make me worry about losing my grip and dropping it (I would but a case for it if I were keeping it; I never usually use a case). Four times the internal memory of my Evo is also much appreciated as it only took me year to fill up the Evo with apps and their frequent space-hogging updates. The battery life is also much better than the Evo, probably lasting approximatetly 20% longer.
However, the couple of cons for this handset carry so much weight in my mind that they outweight the pros. Whenever I talk on the phone, voices on the other end of the line sound muffled and a little shrill, leading me to regularly ask the person to repeat what he said. Since I consider any smartphone of mine to be a phone first and foremost, this is extremely frustrating for me.
Secondly, the day I received the GS2 it took me all that day to set it up the way I wanted it, downloading apps and adjusting settings. I can't help but think that it would probably take me all of ten, maybe twenty minutes to upgrade to a new iPhone from a previous model and I have to admit that the thought holds a lot of allure. And this is coming from someone who has NEVER understood the allure of the iPhone, finding it to be a very bland and boring device right from the start.
I had previously bought a Nexus S and had to return it because the person on the other end of the line thought I sounded muffled and the download speeds were terrible. The thought of having to return a second Android phone is leading me to seriously consider purchasing an iPhone simply for the, assumed, ease of use and good call quality.
Or maybe I just need to avoid Samsung phones.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Simply the best of everything.
by likwidsage on October 9, 2011
Pros: Clearest screen quality I've seen on any phone (my brother has an iPhone 4 & even he's amazed). The fastest in the market (rooted goes up to 1.6 Ghz). Very clear pictures and videos (FullHD). Average batter life of 9 hours on medium high usage.
Cons: I really can't think of any cons to this phone. Atleast nothing I can't say about any other phone on the market.
Summary: Easily the best phone on the market.

Good, But....
by jwaller3 on March 7, 2012
Pros: Everything except the cons
Cons: Bluetooth is paired with the Jabra cruiser 2. My expectation is that when i move about and comeback within range of the Jabra then it should connect. that is not the case, the settings show "paired" but you have to turn off the bluetooth on the phone then
Summary: It's OK

Unacceptable battery life.
by brockmacpherson on February 2, 2012
Pros: I fell in love with the feel and supersized screen when this phone was released. The love affair quickly waned.
Cons: Battery life was exhausted around 5:00pm each days. The Android operating system was, impossible.I tried more than ten times to get the phone to connect.I finally gave up and returned the phone under Future Shop's "buyer's remorse" program.
Summary: So sad that I didn't have an opportunity to break away from the Mighty Apple.

Summary: to use the phone to its potential you get maybe 5-6 hours (i get about 8 if wi-fi and push email is used and screen brightness is turned all the way down). not good for a work phone. Beautiful screen is not as beautiful if i have to keep the screen brightness as low as possible to be able to use the phone. Samsung tech support said turn things off when not in use??? so why would I get a phone with wi-fi, bluetooth, gps, etc. if i have to keep turning it off and on when i turn the phone on? battery use indicator shows that the screen uses about 33% of the power, this is with the screen brightness all the way down.
also, speaker volume is poor, cannot hear if there is ANY background noise. have to use in the car with the windows closed (car not running).
i may be returning the phone if i cannot solve the battery issue.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best Phone I've Owned

Summary: My experience with Android started with the T-Mobile G1. I'll always love that phone. I used it for a couple of years, but it was entirely too slow. I waited a few years before picking my next Android phone.
Last year I bought a Nexus One and I was blown away with the speed, screen, and quality. I probably would have kept using it, but I moved to an area with horrible T-Mobile coverage. I was going to wait for the Galaxy Nexus, but the reviews didn't really impress me. The best thing you could say was it would have ICS. The S II will be getting ICS as well. Frankly, I've been happy with Gingerbread anyway, and the Galaxy Nexus won't be cheap.
It came down to switching to Verizon or AT&T. I chose AT&T due to the Galaxy S II. After months of internal debate, reading every review of every phone, the Galaxy S II was the phone that seemed to have it all.
I checked it out at an AT&T store and everything reviewers said about the screen is true. It's by far the best looking screen I've ever seen on a phone.
The light weight is perfect for me. I've read so many people talk about the cheap build, but that doesn't worry me at all. There's a reason the phone is so light, plastic. I'm pretty careful with my phone so I'm not worried. It has Gorilla Glass too!
I should mention I almost bought a Motorola Atrix II. It was $100 cheaper, and matched up fairly well, but the Galaxy's screen sold me (plus it has Gorilla Glass).
I miss my Nexus One's stock Android, but I've had no problem adapting to the Samsung's interface. I do look forward to ICS and that was a big factor deciding which phone (The Atrix 2 is getting ICS as well)
The call quality was far better than both my G1 and Nexus One, but I have a feeling that the strength AT&T's signal where I am helps a lot. Regardless, the call quality is superb, and the speakerphone too.
At the end of the day, I use my phone for calls, and Google Apps. This phone is feature packed, but it does the most important thing very well. It's a great cell phone.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This phone is great. I have the Korean version. Overall, this is the best phone I've ever had. If people ask me if I prefer this over the iPhone, it's a pretty close call. To be honest, it depends on your taste. Compared to other droid phones, this is one of the best in terms of performance.
