Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket - black (AT&T) price range: $257.24
- Reviewed by: Nicole Lee
- Reviewed on: 11/09/2011
The good: The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket has a beautiful 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display along with a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, an NFC chip, and support for AT&T's LTE network. It ships with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and has an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
The bad: AT&T's LTE network is only available in a few cities at the time of the Skyrocket's launch, it has a somewhat cheap, plastic feel, and you can't remove bloatware.
The bottom line: If you live in an area that gets AT&T's LTE network, we highly recommend the powerful and beautiful Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket.

+1 for tech advancements. Wow, what an improvement!!
by karmic_gogol on December 16, 2011
Pros: Super fast (see review)
LTE capable
Large, fantastic screen
Battery lasts through the day
Big improvement in GPS
Light, in spite of a large screen
Instant photo capture (if the focus was done before)
HD video captureCons: (If i am really, really picky)
Just a little bit unwieldy
I am still looking for that one perfect launcher (not the phone's fault)Summary: This is after owning the device for a week:

1. This is a scary fast device, and I mean it. Web pages open nearly instantly, download time for apps is under 5 secs, gallery seek time is 0!!.
2. I live in Dallas and I get to try out the amazingly fast LTE network. It is almost as fast as
Wifi.
3. The large screen makes, consuming media and typing a joy.
4. The camera works fantastically even in super low light conditions (without flash)
5. GPS fixes on current location under 30 seconds
6. Once a day charge is enough for my usage (I have sync on at all times)
Some minor gripes:
1. The screen is sometimes too big to control with one hand (I am 5'10").
2. I am looking for a launcher that has gesture controls, infinite dock and scrollable widgets. The previous version of Zeam had this, but the current version does not. -
None like a it!!
by kenrob1 on December 14, 2011
Pros: Features, speed, performance, look, feel (NOT FLIMSY AT ALL!!) and I'm 220 plus with large hands. I've owned every phone worth owning. ALL of the Iphones, Nokia N series, Windows phones, EVO's and the S2. This phone kills them all.
Cons: Should have released with 4.0 but all indications say it'll be pushed to the phone soon.

Top android with a better camera than the Galaxy Nexus
by WALTEJ04 on November 26, 2011
Pros: -Fast and responsive
-Big and decently bright screen
-Perfect fit in hand when used with TPU case
-Loud speakers (both earpice and external)
-Great camera for either stills or videoCons: -So much non-removable bloatware requiring root to remove
-Data problems is more than a little frustration
-build lacking (but who doesn't use some type of case)
-TouchWhiz is a so so launcherSummary: Great phone minus the data connection trouble. This phone is really fast coming from a rooted Incredible OC to 1.19ghz. First few days were great; data speeds were great (...
Summary: Great phone minus the data connection trouble. This phone is really fast coming from a rooted Incredible OC to 1.19ghz. First few days were great; data speeds were great (HSPA+ not LTE) getting 2.5 to 3.5 download and 1.5 to 2.5 upload but data connection went AWOL except for MMS downloading pics/vids with no trouble. AT&T service "expert" wasn't much help. Hopefully a fix is on the way; for now found a work around that involves swapping the APN back and forth between having internet connectivity vs MMS download ability. Definatley a pain and not inspiring much confidense after swapping from Verizon.

Summary: I have been using Iphone since the 1st and my last was a 3GS..... I love Android phones, I can customize it the way I want and I got more option then I know what to do with it.... (That's a good thing) The phone is just beautiful the 4.5 screen is just so bright and bad A$$$, Hands down the best phone on the Market—It will even better when I get the ICS update... I was waiting for the Galaxy Nexus to come out but from the reviews I have read and good friend that has one - I am happy I got the Skyrocket.
If you are a using exchange for your email then I would buy TouchDown - the best app for exchange.. I use on my XOOM too. -
Love it. Wanted this phone for forever..I got it...
by lionfish3126_522 on November 18, 2011
Pros: Works great, I love it. My first android...I wouldn't trade it for anything...

Switched from iPhone 4
by ahan92 on November 15, 2011
Pros: In Boston metro-west i am betting between 25-55 Mbps on LTE.
Enjoying the flexibility of App Store choices and configurability of UI.
Fast and responsiveCons: Battery doesn't last as long as my iPhone - usually out by 6:00 PM.
Sloppy user experience compared to iPhone.
Different apps for Exchange email and Gmail kind of sucks.
Exchange calendar doesn't sync when you refresh email.Summary: I am switching from an iPhone 4. I bought the Skyrocket for LTE (for when I tether) and becuase I like to tinker with my gadgets. I've been on ...
Summary: I am switching from an iPhone 4. I bought the Skyrocket for LTE (for when I tether) and becuase I like to tinker with my gadgets. I've been on iPhone for three years or so, so there is definitely an adjustment to the UI, which is inconsistent between applications.
Overall, I am happy with the phone - but I don't think it is an improvement over iPhone4 (which obviously is very good). The big downside is the battery, which only gets me to about 6:00 pm. My iPhone would last all day. I suspect it is becuase of the LTE, but there is no way to turn it off if you don't need it. I'm on a trip to SF right now, so I'm curious to see if the battery doesn't better outside the LTE network. -
TOP NOTCH phone!
by cmnrs4 on November 10, 2011
Pros: There are so many Pros I might forget some:
- 4.5 display
- 1850Mah battery
- 1.5Ghz processor
- 1.3 Gig of RAM (.3 more than the AT&T GS2)
- Still light weight
- practically the same size as the AT&T GS2 but bigger display
- very good built in s/Cons: Battery life doesn't seem better than the AT&T GS2 I had before my current Skyrocket. I have only had it for one day...let's see what happens over the next week. The back battery cover does not have that nice of a pattern.
Summary: First point, the reviewer was wrong. The AT&T bloatware can be removed.

This is one of the best phones I have ever owned. I really like the AT&T GS2 but this Skyrocket is the best of all worlds, especially w/ the LTE speeds and HSPA+ when not in LTE areas. I would HIGHLY recommend this phone to ANY AT&T subscriber. It is the best one on the market. -
Great all=around Phone
by hassaan22 on November 10, 2011
Pros: The Screen is amazing. The camera is beautiful. The OS is amazing. With Ice Cream Sandwich coming in early 2112, it will make it even better. (being actually able to use NFC). Very easy to get used to. The swipe keyboard and the voice-to-text works like a
Cons: The phone does tend to lag sometimes. The back could have had some sort of grip, but not a big deal. On my phone, there was a yellow spot on the bottom-most right corner of the scree but I easily got it replaced.
Summary: Great phone. If you are looking for an upgrade for AT&T and are close to a major city, this phone is a must. It easily beats out the ...
Summary: Great phone. If you are looking for an upgrade for AT&T and are close to a major city, this phone is a must. It easily beats out the other LTE Phone, HTC Vivid. Highly recommended.

Great phone
by FredW12 on November 9, 2011
Pros: incredible speed. I am not in an LTE city, and I still get up to 7.5 Mbs download speeds.
Smooth fast processing.
Huge beautiful screen.
In many markets, this phone is priced $50 less than the Galaxy S II.Cons: The phone is huge.
The phone has little texture on the back, so it is a little hard to get a grip on it. You can put a case on it, but that makes a huge phone even bigger.Summary: I brought back my Galaxy S II to get this phone, and I am glad I did. I would like to see Samsung change the back to have the same ...
Summary: I brought back my Galaxy S II to get this phone, and I am glad I did. I would like to see Samsung change the back to have the same texture as the S II to allow for a better grip.
