Samsung Galaxy S III - 16GB - blue (Sprint) price range: $99.99 - $549.99
- Reviewed by: Jessica Dolcourt
- Reviewed on: 06/28/2012
The good: The Samsung Galaxy S III (S3) comes fully loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 4G LTE capability, a zippy dual-core processor, and a strong 8-megapixel camera. S Beam is an excellent software enhancement, and the handset's price is right.
The bad: The Galaxy S3's screen is too dim, and Samsung's Siri competitor, S Voice, disappointed. Until Sprint's LTE launch, data speeds drag on the carrier's 3G network.
The bottom line: Pumped with high-performing hardware and creative software features, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is an excellent, top-end phone that's neck and neck with the HTC One X. Unfortunately, it only runs on Sprint's 3G network for now.

Reminds me why I love Android without the usual cons.
by shoooze on August 11, 2012
Pros: *Excellent battery life for a smartphone
*None of the freezing/force closing/lag I've experienced with other Android smartphones.
*Camera is very fast and takes excellent photos.
*Impressive suite of Samsung features (S Voice, S Beam etc.)Cons: *Very limited LTE coverage - this is not so much a con of the device as it is of the carrier - it would be nice to be able to use its LTE functionality.
*Its large size and plastic backing make a good, grippy case a necessity to avoid drops.Summary: Overall, I would consider the GS3 the current champion of Android devices. While some of the Samsung features are only usable if you know others with an S3, I wouldn'...
Summary: Overall, I would consider the GS3 the current champion of Android devices. While some of the Samsung features are only usable if you know others with an S3, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade to the latest, greatest Android device. Personally, coming from an iPhone 4S - which I loved - and previously a Samsung Droid Charge - which I hated - I am highly impressed with the GS3. One additional, minor con: Running Android 4.0, I have noticed fragmentation issues with apps still designed to run on Gingerbread. I feel that this issue will resolve itself with time as more 4.0 and later devices are launched.

Excellent phone...loving it all
by rs1990 on July 27, 2012
Pros: Form factor, fast, smooth, great battery life (only have an Evo 4G to compare it to)
Cons: Hhmm...I guess it could have been free. Also, LTE would be nice around here. I don't love that the home button is a hard button and that the power button is on the side rather than the top, but that is just personal preference.
Summary: I am completely impressed with this phone so far. I am coming from an HTC Evo 4G and I was all set to upgrade to the HTC One X (HTC ...
Summary: I am completely impressed with this phone so far. I am coming from an HTC Evo 4G and I was all set to upgrade to the HTC One X (HTC Evo LTE on Sprint). I loved my Evo and really like HTC, so was going to stay with them until the salesman at Best Buy convinced me to get the S3 (I also used it and it was nice). Boy was he right...the phone is amazing. It is fast and powerful and looks great. This is the phone to get right now...

Good phone, but lookout for hidden charges.
by gtmcl on February 1, 2013
Pros: I purchased four of these phones directly from Sprint. Everyone is enjoying their phones. Good feature set and battery life.
Cons: Beware of Sprint's hidden charges. Two months after my purchase, I got hit with a "premium data charge". This was never disclosed at the time of purchase. I already had the "Everything Data" plan, but now they want $10 more per month per phone.
Summary: In my opinion, Sprint is not trustworthy and I got scammed. I'll be looking for others to join is a class-action lawsuit as Sprint is unwilling to admit that ...
Summary: In my opinion, Sprint is not trustworthy and I got scammed. I'll be looking for others to join is a class-action lawsuit as Sprint is unwilling to admit that their business practices are shady, at best. Why would I have a $10 per phone, per month "premium data" charge on an unlimited plan? I guess unlimited isn't truly unlimited as advertised. So, you'll have premium charges for every smartphone on the slowest network out there.
I did call Sprint and was transferred three times before being told a supervisor would call me back. After two days, I sent them an email and finally had my call returned the third day. All of that for them to have no explanation for why the charges were not disclosed at the time of purchase. They were basically unwilling to do anything.
I will never be a Sprint customer again. I feel they have breached our contract and it should be vacated immediately. -

Summary: I bought this phone instead of the iPhone 5 on 25th Dec. I love it! I couldn't get my eyes of the clear display, but it could be a little more brighter. It is fast and does every tasks in a snap. This is a great replacement for my digital camera as the camera quality is colossal. This is my android phone and it rocks! I also like the design of the phone which's dimensions give a good grip on me. But after all, S Voice feature could a little more smarter. I was greatly disappointed of finding no option for pause/resuming video record in the camera app. The music player's doesn't deliver sound quality as good as my previous phone. Nevertheless, buying this phone is one of the best decisions I ever made.

great phone until the screen cracks w/o u touching it!
by muffinhoney on December 21, 2012
Pros: android OS great, choices of apps on google play excellent, the large HD screen is wonderful, downloads are fast if you are on 4G LTE, overall I chose the S3 over iPhone 5 because of price (I got mine for $50 @ Best Buy during a sale).
Cons: downloads are slow when on 3G network and on Sprint's network it tells me I am roaming when I'm well within the area (not in the boonies!) after having my cell for 3 months i wake up 1 morning & the screen is cracked w/o anything touching it!

Summary: Buyer BEWARE!! If you got a S3 that didnt have defective Gorilla Glass 2, congratulations! You will be happy for the remainder of your contract. If you are like the others of us that Samsung has chosen to ignore & will not honor the 1 year warranty on the cell & repair the screens & acknowledge there is a problem, you might be like me & wish you had purchased the iPhone 5! Sprint's insurance, Asurion wants $150 deductible which is completely ridiculous & disporportionate to the price of the cell! That's more than the deductible for my car! I should have kept the Best Buy/Geek Squad insurance instead of wanting everything on my Sprint bill. Samsung can't call every cracked or scratched screen customer abuse when I watched on YouTube Gorilla Glass 2 demonstration @ CES 2012 & 127 lbs of pressure exerted on the glass before it broke. Samsung you can do better!

Great phone! only a few quibbles
by yurma on October 26, 2012
Pros: super fast performance; light;
Cons: plastic build feels even less premium than the SII. screen bightness or lack thereof. Oct 2012 and still no LTE on sprint in most areas.

i only have a few concerns or complaints: the plastic body feels less than premium. i'm not sure how they went backwards here; my girlfriend has the s2, and although it's still a plastic build, there was just something substantial about the weight and how it sat in the hand that made it feel sturdier or higher quality. i do like the light weight aspect, but the phone just feels like it's going to break sitting in my pocket. the glossy batter cover around back is slick and sometimes makes the phone difficult to hold. i suppose this is all fixable with a case, though. i agree with many reviewers who have found that the screen is too dim, particularly for use outside. also, sprint has been really slow with the LTE rollout - this isn't samsungs fault or responsibility, but it's something to consider if you're dying for LTE.
otherwise, the phone has been great. the 2GBs of ram really keep the performance zippy, and i imagine it will get even smoother when i'm able to upgrade to jellybean. for the most part, i skip out on using samsung's proprietary apps aside from calendar. aside from the brightness issue, i think the screen is pretty brilliant -- not the pixel density of other phones on the market, but i'm not reading novels on this thing so it's not really made a difference for me. i do wish the home button was a little thicker -- it's a thin bar and i sometimes worry that the frame around it will wear down and break.
otherwise, a great phone. not sure where i will go when i'm due for an upgrade, but i'm very happy with the G3 -
Great phone that hits all the needs of the days
by Mlamb6644 on October 2, 2012
Pros: Screen, size,
Cons: LTE on Sprint is available in all areas so it doesnt really work.
Summary: Great phone and a must buy.
