The good: Samsung's Galaxy S4 Active has a sporty design, takes strong daylight photos, and delivers the majority of Android 4.2 features. It also has a great speakerphone.
The bad: Aqua mode is fixed focus, the S4 Active takes weak low light shots, and the phone isn't as durable as its name suggests. Its 8-megapixel camera is lower resolution than the original Galaxy S4's.
The bottom line: Choose the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active for its sporty style, fast internals, and underwater camera fun, but pass if you're an image snob or seek a truly rugged phone.
Great performance with added piece of mind.

Pros: - excellent performance
- acceptable battery life
- removable battery
- water resistant
- looks cool
Cons: - can't get replacement battery doors yet
- Samsung and ATT's bloatware
- contrast ratio on screen could be better

Summary: I spent a lot of time comparing this device to the mainline S4, going into the ATT store multiple times to compare the screen, camera, and signal reception. This is a superior device due to the piece of mind one gets knowing they can take a call in the rain or touch their phone with dripping-wet hands. The hardware differences between the S4 Active and the mainline S4 are pretty minor, with the screen being the most noticeable one. I prefer the LCD panel on the S4 Active in most viewing situations. While the AMOLED screen on the S4 offers better color saturation, the whites are yellowish in tint and don't make reading web pages or books significantly easier, and might actually detract from the experience. Some reviews have stated that the reception on the S4 Active is worse than the S4, but I didn't find this to be the case, comparing the two in terms of dBm and asu around the ATT store. In terms of performance, this is a bleeding edge device that offers flagship speed. One minor quibble is that Samsung isn't offering replacement battery doors yet, which will be important to have if the little rubber gasket wears out or gets damaged.

Summary: I am a sports guys and bought this phone as I thought it could keep up with me. Sadly that is not the case. The phone shuts off in the cold. 30 degrees or less and it will randomly shut off. Needless to say that early morning drives in Colorado means you are phoneless till the car heats ups and ice climbing must be done without a phone. The phone doesn't work well with car chargers due to the mini USB-despite if its new or used, you have to play with the port to get it to charge. Never had this issue with any other phone I have owned. Camera is horrible and cannot take a quality pick from shade to sunlight or vice versa. You will have a very dark pick unless in full sunlight or full shade. The phone is not water proof and barely water resistant. The battery cover constantly pops open thus voiding any change of the phone being water proof or resistant.
All in all, this phone is for the office active person and not the athlete or explorer.
Need to be more durable water proof is the only plus

Summary: Will never buy this phone again the glass screen brakes for to easy I've been told I need to put a heavy case on it as this is my 3ed time never needed one before and that defeats the purpose of having a slim phone its a nice phone as long as in your car office or school but never drop it..
Terrible value, fun when it works.

Pros: If there are no apps updating, great speed. Okay camera. Great at "finding" other devices.
Cons: Price. Construction. Lags.

Summary: After 4 years with the iPhone I decided to give Android a try (mostly because I love my wife's htc). From what I can tell, I like the Android OS (maybe), but the Samsung GS4 Active is a terrible phone. It's construction is flimsy--my rubber usb cover flap ripped off after just 3 months and I cannot seem to get Samsung's attention to fix it (countless hours via their Web interface and customer service folks on the phone). My above "maybe" has to do with the fact that my phone is virtually unusable whenever the Google Play Store is updating an app. Virtually, meaning, I cannot text or call; some apps will continue to work, but I absolutely cannot use the phone to call or text for about 5-10 minutes. Restarting the phone does nothing to fix the issue. YOU.JUST.HAVE.TO.WAIT.Okay, so much for this GREAT phone. I've had it under a year and it is hands down the worst phone I have EVER owned. And I'm including my old Nokia 8310 phone. The Contacts App CRASHES all the time--at least 5 times a week--and makes it impossible to call or receive phone calls. And it stays down even after "restarting" and even after pulling the battery. And most of the time when the contacts app crashes the rest of the phone runs sluggish and unresponsive. I would call Samsung to ask for support, but that company's support service is even more of a piece of $h!+. Countless phone voice-prompt menus and you find yourself back where you started ... holding a crappy phone that does no work.
