The good: The T-Mobile MyTouch 3G has a sleek, attractive design with a gorgeous display, tactile controls, and an easy-to-use, customizable interface. Stereo Bluetooth and Outlook e-mail syncing are standard features, and call and data performance are excellent.
The bad: The T-Mobile MyTouch 3G lacks important features like a standard 3.5-millimeter headset jack, a file manager, and camera-editing options. Video quality is uneven, and the HTML browser interface and virtual keyboard have their flaws. Also, it doesn't support Outlook calendar and contacts syncing.
The bottom line: With the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G, the Google Android OS gets a much-needed boost. A few complaints remain, and some users may bemoan the lack of a physical keyboard, but we approve of its eye-catching design and interface, improved features, and satisfying performance.

Dang stylish and can be customized to be what you want!
by Barky05 on August 9, 2009
Pros: WOW factor with the packaging. Opening it is a treat- comes with a zippered case.
Tons of free apps for who you are, fun or business or what have you.
Trackball & different keyboard options.
Many accessories.
T-Mobile customer service and prices.Cons: Lack of physical keyboard.
Camera could be better.Summary: Blackberry is great but is for business/email users. The iphone is really just an ipod with a phone in it. Palm Pre is for people who.... like tiny keyboards? ...
Summary: Blackberry is great but is for business/email users. The iphone is really just an ipod with a phone in it. Palm Pre is for people who.... like tiny keyboards? But the MyTouch is so customizable no two should really be the same. I'm preferrential with the G1 because I'm kinda stuck on the physical keyboard and the G1 has one of the best out there, but if that is not a factor for you, then this phone is terrific.

From Blackberry to Treo and Verizon to T-Mobile!
by ashtona74 on September 2, 2009
Pros: Wifi, Android OS, Android Market, IM, Call Quality.
Cons: Task management is lacking and I do not like how everytime I back out of an app, it takes me to the center screen. But these are extremely minor annoynaces that can be overlooked when you realize the power of this device.

Summary: Through the years, a majority of that with Verizon Wireless, I have come to expect a few things from my devices. The most important of which are e-mail, web, IM/text and a market that keeps my interest for longer than a week. The Android Market with it's open source delivers in spades. There are endless possibilities from games to news and weather to financial apps to pour over daily and with the OS being in it's infancy, we can only expect this to expand with time.
The OS functions smoothly. The chat notifications that keep me from having to back out of apps to see texts is a nice touch as well. I wish however that the OS would manage tasks better without my intervention, but I assume the Android team is aware of this.
Call quality is amazing. I have yet to drop a call whereas on my Storm, this was a regular occurance. I would drop 2 out of every 5 calls on my Storm and with the MT, not a single one yet. Voices are crystal clear whereas on the Storm, they were garbled and choppy.
My Gmail setup was a breeze and now have all my other e-mail clients auto-forwarding to my Gmail account.
Web browsing, unlike my other devices, has been incredible. It is fast loading and I can even sign into my bank sites whereas on past devices, it would error out or just simply fail to load. The zoom is great for this kind of browsing as well.
Overall, this is by far the best device I have owned to date. It does everything I want and more. T-Mobile's network has been fantastic. Where I would get 1 bar in my condo, I now get at least 3 on 3G or full on EDGE. My Verizon account has been cancelled and I will never look back. As for the beloved iPhone that CNET loves to compare this device too, AT&T can keep it. Any device that wants me to ship it out for battery replacement is no device for me.
GET this phone! If you were a Blackberry Storm user or a Palm user, you will be blown away.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Nice all around smart phone
by CAL_08 on August 2, 2009
Pros: I love the look and feel of the phone and really like the option of using the touch screen or track ball to navigate around. Sound quality while on call is amazing. Extremely customizable with multiple settings and add on apps. It's got buttons!!
Cons: Kind of boring to navigate around on. the desktop is nothing but 3 pages of widgets and icons wich makes it appear clustered and unexciting to move around on. Touch screen not super responsive but could be related to screen protector.

Summary: First of all I like the fact that T-mobile finally came out with a pretty cool phone that has a decent camera and Wifi built in. It's not really fair to judge the phone by it's carrier but the pricing structure is far more friendlier than that of AT&T and Sprint when factoring in both minutes and data, so if you actually shop around it's a much better value on the whole. I've had a iPhone 3g and liked it but was not very pleased with the service and returned it shortly after. By comparison though the iPhone was much more responsive and seemed to run a bit faster. What I really love about this over the iPhone though is that this thing has buttons. Yes, it's amazingly helpful not to have to look at the phone for every task. I feel this works especially well when listening to music or for declining incoming phone calls. Just push a button and the volume is down or the phone stops ringing. The camera features are very comparable the the iPhone as well. They aren't great, but they are decent, and there are apps on the Android market that allow you to add stabilizing and picture customization. However I would not recommend buying this phone if taking pictures is a key priority. It's also great to have a removable battery as well as a micro sd for storage. Unlike the iPhone you can swap out both of these if you need a new battery or want more storage. It is however limited to 16gb of storage but that should be more than plenty for your typically user (Phone comes with 4gb card). It is somewhat mind blowing that this does not come with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. It does come with an adapter, and it wouldn't be all that difficult to just leave it attached to your headphones but if you want to charge the phone and listen to music you need to purchase a different adapter. You can blame HTC for that. The external speaker works pretty good too, my only complaint is that the ring tones don't seem to ring loud enough unless I'm in the same room. This could be the fault of using music for a ring tone, which by the way there is a free app to use you own stored music so that you don't ever have to buy another ring tone if you don't want to (very nice). My biggest complaint about this phone however is that it doesn't come with a manual!! T-mobile has a link for one on their website but it's a dead link or at least has been for the past few days. I pretty much had to play with the phone for a few days before I understood what I was doing or why things weren't working as I thought they should be. If you are tech savvy at all it shouldn't be too hard to pick it up, but don't expect things to be super smooth out of the box. It took me an hour to figure out that I needed to sync my sim card to the phone to access my sim contacts. When setting up the phone you must have a Gmail account (Free) but if you don't already have one it's just one more step to getting the phone working to it's full capabilities. I'm also heavily looking forward to the Google voice app that will be available sometime soon. The phone comes with it but it doesn't work yet. I suggest reading about it online somewhere because I really believe it's going to change the way people use their phones in the very near future. It's basically a free phone number provided by Google that you can use from your own cell phone all for free! So unless you are super attached to your phone number you can basically use your Google number for free. That means no more overages in minutes on your calling plan with your carrier. This also means you could basically sign up for the cheapest plan around (not prepaid) and have unlimited service! Oh, but if you have an iPhone you are SOL as they (at least for now) have banned that app for their services. So in the end I believe this is a wonderful phone with a moderate price of $200 with a new or extended contract. Can't say that I'd pay the $500 tag with out the new agreement because even if you extend your contract and decide to cancel it's basically the same price as buying the phone outright. It's great looking, feels comfortable to hold onto, sound quality is amazing, has many was to access features (buttons, touch screen, and track ball), and is extremely customizable with more apps to come. If you have T-mobile and want an iPhone like smart phone this is the way to go. Oh, the name Mytouch is really stupid though. I think we can all agree to that.

Glad I Checked It Out the Day Before It Went on Sale!
by Hardyman1966 on August 9, 2009
Pros: It's smaller, curvier and expandable to 32GB's. A similar touch platform as the iPhone with a few differences. Apple did, after all spend a small fortune on a ton of patents.
Cons: I'm sure it will be written SOON, but this needs a much better MP3 player. Some of us gave up an iPod to have this all in one and it's not the easiest process (and it doesn't like certain tracks from iTunes without converting them first.
Summary: Also, for the first few days I seriously HATED the keyboard, especially the vertical one. WE'RE doing it wrong by trying to tap. Let your finger glide over it ...
Summary: Also, for the first few days I seriously HATED the keyboard, especially the vertical one. WE'RE doing it wrong by trying to tap. Let your finger glide over it slowly and each letter you hit will be blown up somewhere around your touch-point. Once you start treating that way, it gets a LOT easier.
This is my first smart phone. I wanted an iPhone, but AT&T wanted a $750 deposit from me, so I went to my existing carrier, saw this, barely looked at the features and came back the next morning. This is a GREAT device with a lot of hidden features once you get used to them.
Besides, like our computers, no matter what, it's all going to be garbage (in lieu of a better word) within 2-3 years anyway. :)2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great looking, intuitive, and Android is excellent!
by dnyyanks62 on August 22, 2009
Pros: Size, customizable interface, fantastic screen, smooth response to touch (most of the time), Google integration, thousands of applications, Android is new and a lot of fun to use, trackball is useful certain times and very streamlined device.
Cons: Volume is a little low, no 3.5 mm headphone jack (don't care too much though), onscreen keyboard is tricky to use sometimes, battery life not as long as I expected.

Summary: The myTouch 3G is an extremely good-looking device and the streamlined design makes it simple to use. The hardware buttons on the front do not detract from the design at all and operate very well with the device. The trackball works like a charm and helps out a lot in tight situations where using your finger is difficult.
The screen is beautiful. No other way to put it. It's very responsive most of the time, but I suspect it may be even better when I take the protector off. The volume on the phone is not as loud as I would have liked, but my hearing isn't that great anyway. The indicator light on top is useful as well.
The notifications bar is fantastic and one of my favorite parts of the Android platform so far. The home screen is very customizable and with careful procedures, you can do just about anything you want with the OS. The keyboard is very good, but definitely takes some getting used to, especially for those familiar with using physical keyboards. Of course, Android opens up many possibilities to alternate keyboards you can choose from.
Google integration is amazing and all my Gmail contacts are brought it immediately. Although the 3G service at my home is awful, the times I have gotten to use it have been very fast and smooth. There are thousands of applications to choose from too. Lots more about the phone but I gotta run, shoot me an email if you have a question!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: As a prior blackberry curve owner the MT3 is definitely better. The android apps are the main selling point. The phone's phone function is good, but does require a few more steps than I'd like - but that is because I've integrated it with google voice (this may be positive). Battery life is much worse than the blackberry curve - but I think that's understandable given the extra functions and features (3g, GPS, running background apps). With the Curve I could go 3 days without charging (and that is using Google Reader a lot to surf the web), now with the MT3 I have to charge it everynight, but it doesn't die during the day (I had ask Tmobile to replace my first MT3 because that battery died afte 1/2 a day - the second phone/battery worked a lot better out of the box). The accelerometer is slow, but I have nothing to compare it to. The volume speakerphone is not as loud as the Curve. Ultimately, unless Blackberry get more apps (that are free which is pie in the sky), 3G, and better websurfing capabilities, I won't be going back. I highly recommend

Beautiful phone. Perfect size. Unlimited capabilities.
by joeybarney on August 6, 2009
Pros: There are so many quality FREE apps in the Market,it makes the MyTouch seem like a new toy every day. The Work Email App lets me leave my BlackBerry(8900) at home, and with Documents To Go, I don't miss it at all. Bravo, TMO.You finally got it right.
Cons: The only thing I don't like is that the phone doesn't have a flash for the camera.

Great upgrade for an old MDA user
by gcounts on August 5, 2009
Pros: Excelent integration with Google Email/Contacts. Browser is very good. Voice search works very well. Nice YouTube integration. Excellent UI - much better then Windows Mobile - pulldown notification window, pull up app drawer, icon placement
Cons: Hands down the biggest issue is a lack of full Exchange integration - You can sync email but not Contacts! Also, contacts in Google that are not associated with a group do not automatically sync.
Summary: My MDA was on it's last legs after three years of hard use. The MT3G has picked up where the MDA left off with the exception of full Exchange ...
Summary: My MDA was on it's last legs after three years of hard use. The MT3G has picked up where the MDA left off with the exception of full Exchange integration. Essentially the MT3G feels like an evolution from the MDA - much more integrated in it's operation, smoother transition from one function to another and a general across the board improvement. Call quality is excellent. I'm using the first generation Jawbone bluetooth and it works very well. The Sherpa application is tremendously useful. Being able to 'see' what is around you and then navigate to it is a real game changer. My only real complaint is the lack of Exchange Contact support and secondly Calendar support. I would rather they had Exchange contact integration before email. The onscreen keyboard is taking a little more effort to get use to. The slide out MDA keyboard is better but lack of a physical keyboard is not a show stopper. Overall I'm very pleased with the entire package. And I hope they get the Excange Contact integration up asap.

Awesome Phone
by Damar1979 on August 3, 2009
Pros: Sleek phone that has almost any ability a phone could have. 3g, wi-fi, music player/music store, FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE
Cons: not much really, initial keyboard is a little on the small side....but that was also CUSTOMIZABLE. no flash on camera

Summary: The beauty of this phone, much like the G1 but slightly better, is that you can literally make it your own. unlike the iphone which has a menu and that's it... the htc G1 and mytouch 3g are literally as customizable as it is to your liking. homescreen to widgits to applications, it's literally all about you. completely open OS, you have the liberty to do, adjust, add, take away, place and set up your phone in however fashion you'd like. 3g service is good as always, same for wifi, calls were loud and clear, email and text quick and responsive. If the iphone is a dictatorship, then the google OS phones G1 and Mytouch represent freedom of democracy. with this phone, do what you want.... how you want.. it's an extension of you.

Summary: UPS delivered this phone this past Thurs and I have been very impressed. The first thing that I noticed was the quality of the touch screen. I have been a blackberry user in the past and I must admit that I was very concerned about making the transition to a touch screen keyboard but it took me maybe an hour or two of playing around with this before it was no longer an issue. I also spent the next 5-6 hrs playing with it and customizing it (literally non stop) and I was pleased to see that I had battery life left. I also enjoyed surfing thru the marketplace apps and trying the ones i tought would be useful. Its extremely easy to install but more importantly its extremely easy to uninstall the programs that I decide I don't want to keep. The only downer for me personally was the lack of any real features for the camera. There is no flash so unless you're in just the right lighting your pictures will pretty much suck. The developers definitely dropped the ball on that one -- Luckily for me I'm not much of a photographer. Other than the camera issue, I was pretty impressed with this phone overall.
