The good: Norton AntiVirus 2010 treads lightly on your CPU, while bolstering last year's reputation-based detection engine with a new behavioral detection system.
The bad: Despite dramatic performance improvements in the past two years, Norton still doesn't leave the smallest footprint on your CPU, and new efficacy results show that while it continues to be in the top five at detecting malicious software, it still doesn't have the highest rate of detection.
The bottom line: Norton AntiVirus 2010 builds on the immense progress made in last year's version, maintaining a low system profile while strengthening its security framework. It's not perfect, but even Symantec's detractors should check it out.

by TheAl12345 on February 25, 2010
Pros: Good protection. Works quietly in the background. Had good on-line support. Way better then Trend Micro
Cons: Doesn't find all virus or trojans. Hogs mem and RAM.
Summary: This program is ok but i have seen better. No matter how bad this is it will ALWAYS be better then Trend Micro.

Summary: Froze my computer. When start windows express email, the spam menu pops up and you can not turn either of them off. It takes over the email program. Spent three days on the phone, plus the Norton Techs entered my computer and could not resolve the problem Had no answer to the problem. They removed the program several times then reinstall and finally permanently removed any and all parts of the program. Mighty poor service when the people who wrote the program can not fix the problem. I use to have a lot of respect for Systematic programs. Not any more! I would not recommend any of their programs until they are smart enough to fix what they screw up.

Try it free first...
by norton-antivirus-free on July 11, 2010
Pros: - Very light on system resources (Gaming Edition was actually discontinued...)
- This is set-it-and-forget-it protection, good for clueless users.
- You can actually try it out for free for 30 days before you buy. Test it out for yourself!Cons: The user interface can be confusing but that's really not much of a rant.

Summary: I have been using Norton Antivirus 2010 since it came out last September; my computer has been virus-free since, at least I haven't seen any 'weird' behavior on my Windows 7 PC. What I like the most is that the protection is fully-automated, once set up you don't have much to do. I'm not very well-versed in computer technology in general so this is a good solution for me.
I did, however try the software free before I bought it (see link I used in my profile). I actually tried several other brands and found that Norton was the easiest to use and it also did not slow down my computer at all (unlike what the official CNET review says), which I liked because I do a lot of gaming.
I don't understand why people complain about buying a software they don't like - it's 2010 folks, you can get free stuff all over the Internet. So download Norton Antivirus, try if free for 30 days and if you don't like it, don't buy it, simple!1 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

sppedway is full of @#$*.
by Topend779 on September 30, 2009
Pros: It monitors in the background, updates frequently and finds most threats. It may not be perfect, but only a weenee would suggest that antivirus software has no value.
Cons: doesn't always get everything, particularly USB viruses.
Summary: Avoid becoming a zombie drone. Install and update a decent anti virus package.

Antivirus software is a scam
by speedwaypc on September 27, 2009
Pros: None. In the home market, no antivirus software provides any sort of positive benefit, unless of course you are a Symantec shareholder.
Cons: Yearly fees, slower PC performance, significant harassment
Summary: There is no need for Antivirus software.
- What are you protecting? The only thing irreplaceable about your computer is your data. Back it up.
- Why on earth do ...Summary: There is no need for Antivirus software.
Do you work for Symantec? I would love someone to give me a valid reason why you need harassing & costly antivirus software in the age of cheap computers, easy recovery partitions, and cloud based application & data storage.
- What are you protecting? The only thing irreplaceable about your computer is your data. Back it up.
- Why on earth do you ever need to run a manual or scheduled virus scan? Isn't the program supposed to always be running picking up anything as it comes in? What is it scanning for, things it might have missed the first time? No, it is making you think that it's doing something to justify its existence.
- Computers are cheap, disposable, and replaceable. Take whatever you'd spend on antivirus and save it to buy a new computer every year.
- Be careful. No viruses or similar problems just come by themself. Don't click on things you are not sure of, and stick to legitimate websites you know and trust.
- If you are careless enough to infect your computer with viruses (or much more commonly these days, malware) use your recovery partition to reinstall Windows. It's fast and easy, and because you have your data backed up you don't lose anything.
- I much prefer to trust myself with my "security" instead of some big evil profit maximizing corporation.
