Won't work on Dell Inspiron laptop (Vista)
by cohalvorsen on September 13, 2009
Pros: Works fine on my 8-year-old eMachines desktop on Windows XP, SP3. Seems to go easy on resources.
Cons: It completely locks up my Dell laptop, and only System Restore cures the problems.

Summary: I bought the 3-license home package and only got this to work on an old desktop PC. I have tried four times to install it on my Dell E1505 Vista laptop, following all of Trend's instructions and troubleshooting tips. I finally got it to finish the install on the fourth attempt, but after restart the laptop was completely locked up, although the hard drive seemed to be very busy. I waited 10 minutes just in case it something good would happen. Everything was still locked up. Only a restart in Safe Mode and using System Restore got the laptop working again.
I spent about five hours on the four attempts, and I decided not to bother contacting Trend for help. I've wasted enough time. I'm finding another program to install on my Dell and never buying Trend again.
Another annoyance is Trend incorrectly thinks the re-install is a new install, and makes you go online to select which license you will give up to do the re-install. I gave up the license on my Dell to reinstall it on my Dell.
As for my 3rd device that I was planning to use this on -- an Asus Eee notebook -- I just left AVG running on it since it's doing fine.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Crashed my new PC running Vista Premium
by tcfleeson on July 24, 2009
Pros: Have been a big fan of TM products for the past decade and have never experienced any problems until now

Summary: I have spent countless hours trying to figure out why my system locked up, which would require manual reboot. PC runs fine in safe mode and while booting up in normal mode to the OS password. I reset system to factory settings. Re-Installed TM 2009 IS program. Everything was fine. Updated and rebooted as directed. System crashed again. I am not a tech guy, but I recently bought my HP system, which is a smoking system. But it seems TM 2009 IS has some serious conflict issues. Don't want to move away from TM products, but not sure what else to do if I can't use my PC with it on there. Any help out there?

Love Trend MIcro IS 2009
by Doctin27 on July 15, 2009
Pros: I have used their product for 3-years. It is not only easy but realiable, I have had very few (maybe 1 or 2) incidents of outside virus or tag sneeking in.
Cons: I would like to more options to wave checking some web sites, principally those that I log-in to for business, so that I can speed up uploads and downloads.
Summary: Why buy anything else for your home and small business.

Not a Good Choice for Vista or XP Users
by ascott1956 on July 13, 2009
Pros: I have been using Trend Micro PC-cillin and Internet Security since 2003 and it is strong protection against all type of threats.
Cons: Slow, slow, slow!! Internet Security 2009 takes 3 minutes to load (not including other Microsoft stuff). It also slows down your computer to a crawl.
Summary: As a long time user of Trend Micro Internet Security, I am obviously a supporter of the product. Actually, a former supporter of the product. After buying a brand new ...
Summary: As a long time user of Trend Micro Internet Security, I am obviously a supporter of the product. Actually, a former supporter of the product. After buying a brand new Dell computer with a pretty fast processor I loaded Internet Security 2009 and my fast computer started to run like a 286. I emailed Tech Support back and forth for a week and they had me try everything but uninstall the program and switch to a competitor.
It's just a real shame that Trend Micro can't design a program that doesn't take 3 minutes to load. My new computer booted in about 30 seconds when I first got it and now I'm looking at 4 minutes.
I am going to be searching for a new security program.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Very problematic w Vista 32-bit, unusable w 64-bit
by wrknecht on May 30, 2009
Pros: After 20 hr work, it eventually worked w Vista 32-bit. Never did work w. 64-bit.
Cons: At first, it gave me no console but a white screen on both machines, making me think I had a virus. After 20 hr effort, I contacted the company, got a fix on the 32-bit OS. On the 64-bit, it goes infinite loop during update, then crashes.
Summary: This is an extremely complicated program that simply doesn't work right out of the box. Initially, it nearly fooled me into thinking I'd been attacked by a super-worm, ...
Summary: This is an extremely complicated program that simply doesn't work right out of the box. Initially, it nearly fooled me into thinking I'd been attacked by a super-worm, and I came within a hair's bredth of reformatting HDs on both my computers. After a total of 40+ hr work, it finallly runs on one machine. The 64-bit Vista machine is hopeless. I'm a pretty smart guy (research scientist with FAA, Ph.D. with minor in computer science) and this thing has me baffled. Tech support is prompt, but fixes require you setting up your machine to record log files, then sending those to the company. The 2 fixes they recommended were quite complex, and one simply didn't work. I make $85,000 a year and just don't have time to fool with complex software that doesn't work.
Misspelled the word "breadth." Apologies.

TRENDMICRO GOES DOWN THE MICROSOFT ROAD
by jojibro on May 29, 2009
Pros: TMIS2009 BETTER THAN 2008 (A DISASTER)

Summary: Though TM started out better than its competitors in size, speed, resource use & customer service, they seem to have decided it is no longer cost effective to be the best as long as they are just slightly better than the horrendous competition.
The products have gotten consistently worse (bloated, intrusive & resource hungry) since 2007, and now they won't even support the last version to work well.
Phone customer service, which was once unique, is a time wasting, mind bending charade that would be comical if it wasn't such an insult to the intelligence of English speakers everywhere.
TrendMicro has been infected with Microsoft-itis.
Too big...Too rich...Too preoccupied with market share to actually care about its products and how they meet, or don't meet their customers' real-world needs.
They deserve to fail for their arrogance alone.
Don't Buy TrendMicro!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

ONE MAJOR FEATURE MISSING - APPROVE SENDER BUTTON.
by mb300e on May 26, 2009
Pros: Not sure if can find anything that could be construed to be a Pro at this time.
Cons: 1) Upgraded from 2007 and found the "APPROVE SENDER BUTTON" is not longer on the toolbar. One has to open a dialog box and type in the e-mail address. What a waste of time. 2) Bought an upgrade disc, but the installer does not work on any of my PC s.
Summary: Sorry I upgraded. Now I have to consider doing the unthinkable, changing to Norton, heaven forbid! I was happy with Trend Micro Internet Security 2006 and 2007, but now I ...
Summary: Sorry I upgraded. Now I have to consider doing the unthinkable, changing to Norton, heaven forbid! I was happy with Trend Micro Internet Security 2006 and 2007, but now I am disenchanted. Went on-line for CHAT help, but got someone who knew less than I did. Must have been in a foreign country. He seemed to be working from a three ring binder.

Works great with Vista and XP
by dallasdux on May 18, 2009
Pros: Runs fast, very unobtrusive. Not a resource hog like Norton (Symantec). I had 360 and had to ditch it after everything slowed. Trend Micro saved the day by having an easy to install and VERY easy to maintain application.
Cons: Notifications of services turned off. If you turned one/more off, you don't want to constantly be reminded.
Summary: It's a solid, easy to use. Each year I compare the products. I was a Nortan user for years and finally got so fed up with the resource hog ...
Summary: It's a solid, easy to use. Each year I compare the products. I was a Nortan user for years and finally got so fed up with the resource hog or errors on valid programs that I ditched it. I still put it in the mix to compare, but there are several better apps: Trend Micro, McAfee, even Kaspersky (though it's a bit technical) all for the same if not cheaper price.
360 was the biggest waste of money I ever made and it is what led me to Trend Micro. Trend Micro was one of the first antivirus programs to make their software (Housecall) FREE online. I decided to give them a shot last year with the Full, paid package and have not been disappointed.
It's time to renew now and I've narrowed it down to Trend Micro and McAfee. TM is going to get my business. Just wish they would honor the $25 credit if you buy the physical cd and not just a download.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
