Summary: I have a new laptop w/ Vista Home. AFter installing Trend, I could not print anything from the web. After lowering many of their security settings I was still unable to print from web. Disabling Trend allowed me to print, but what's the point of having the antivirus then? Two online chat sessions w/ Trend ended in the tech support person telling me to just turn off Trend and he ended the session. He had no solutions and tech support now refuses to address the issue at all. Even changing the advanced settings on the firewall did not help. Trend must be disable in order to print from the web.

Think Twice About it.
by Maxxx247 on December 21, 2008
Pros: The price and that's it.
Cons: Customer support is slow. It takes for ever to get an answer if they know that they are doing. I almost lost my computer because it didn't pick up a virus. Doesn't operate well with Outlook Express.
Summary: Invest in another program. In todays computer world you really need a program that is going to work and this is not it.

Do NOT buy this software

Summary: I have used McAfee for years and have never had an issue with malware. Recently I changed jobs to a small company and needed to use my own laptop. They insisted I remove McAfee and use Trend Micro as that is what they use. So against my better judgment I did. Whithin one month I had inadvertently received trojans which included a key logger and many of my internet accounts were hacked.
I quickly removed Trend Micro and installed McAfee. It found the malware immediately and removed it.

DO NOT BUY! DOESN'T DETECT VIRUSES even AFTER INFECTED
by gem615 on May 26, 2009
Pros: Tech support in India is nice, but useless w/ a product that is insufficient!
Always thought Trend Micro was one of the best anti-virus software's you could buy. From what I understand now, it ONCE was true, but no longer!!! Read on . . . .Cons: COMPLETELY MISSES VIRUSES that end up installing on your computer that completely TRASH it! Updates are usesless. Running complete anti-virus scan is useless. Other tools - like HiJack This are useless - ALL MISSED/ DID NOT DETECT VIRUSES!
Summary: Bottom line - TREND MICRO IS JUNK! I bought & installed this software on 3 computers - 1 so far that has been completely RUINED b/c this software FAILED ...
Summary: Bottom line - TREND MICRO IS JUNK! I bought & installed this software on 3 computers - 1 so far that has been completely RUINED b/c this software FAILED TO DETECT a virus that they are well aware of (even have an article where they commented on the latest Facebook virus).
Needless to say, my sister ended up w/ the virus which totally ate up everything on her computer - quickly. Can't even access start mode, so computer is JUNK! She had to go out and spend more $$$ to buy a new one b/c TREND MICRO FAILED TO DO THE JOB IT PROMISES TO DO!
I am a software developer, so I KNOW what I am doing . . . I installed Trend Micro on my sister's system (that I bought), thinking it was one of the best softwares - boy was I WRONG! Had her run updates constantly (every time she turned the computer on) + complete scans at least 3-4x a day (she's not the most computer literate), so I felt she & the kids would be safe enough no matter what they did (including living on Facebook). Then the other day, her system starts acting weird & I knew that someting was really wrong. Regardless of multiple anti-virus scans/ updates - she GOT THE LATEST FACEBOOK VIRUS (Koobface) I believe it is. NOT ONCE DID TREND MICRO DETECT ANY VIRUS! Called Tech Support - told them there had to be a virus, they told me to run Hi-Jack This & return the log to them. A couple of minor things had to be deleted from the registry (but nothing VIRUS related, but more adware junk) - We followed instructions to a tee, but the computer got worse & worse each time it was restarted (as instructed to do). Still, we continued to run anti-virus scans (probaly 5-6x that night only) and NO VIRUS WAS EVER DETECTED! Needless to say, later that night EVERYTHING ON THE COMPUTER IS TRASHED! THe VIRUS ATE EVERYTHING - starting w/ her desktop items, then file, THEN THE OPERATING SYSTEM! Tech Support then sent other tools via email (not available online, supposedly), which did absolutely NO GOOD considering that we can't get into the computer AT ALL - NOT EVEN IN SAFE MODE!
SO NOW WE ARE STUCK W/ A BIG PEICE OF JUNK THAT COST ME HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS & MY SISTER HAD TO GO OUT AND BUY AN ENTIRELY BRAND NEW COMPUTER! This, ALL BECAUSE TREND MICRO NEVER DETECTED A VIRUS - not even once!
SO I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY or TIME with TREND MICRO. You might as well not have any anti-virus software than buy this product which is obviously COMPLETELY USELESS AGAINST VIRUSES!
I just don't understand how a company can go & actually be part of an article about a specific virus (that they obviously are fully aware of), yet have their own product be so ineffective against it that it doesn't even detect it?!!! I asked for my money back, so we'll see how that goes . . . I should send them the bill for the computer they trashed + the bill for the new computer we had to buy because of thier substandard product.
As for me, I'm buying Symantec's Norton 360 now for all 3 computers that I had Trend Micro installed on . . . seems to me like we've never been protected this whole time against viruses with Trend Micro. How else would you explain anti-virus software that does not detect a virus EVEN WHILE it is eating away at your system?
TREND MICRO = JUNK, JUNK, JUNK that costs you $$$2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Causes frequent system crashes in Vista machine
by rawfish61 on January 1, 2009
Pros: Liked the speed of the product.
Cons: Causes frequent system crashes (blue screen) in my Vista system. Tech support couldn't come up with a solution after weeks of back and forth.
Summary: Don't buy this product. I've de-installed and walking away from my subscription...that's how bad the system instability caused by TrendMicro.

CAUTION! 2 computers scrapped!
by fantumx on February 26, 2010
Pros: Sorry, there is no Pro. The software never worked properly.
Cons: The software never worked properly. TM advertises 2 level, 24 x 7 support. Following instructions of the level 1 tech the computer quit showing a black screen. He promised a level 2 engineer would contact me. He did not.
Summary: I purchased 2 licenses and installed on 2 computers. The software never worked properly, a pop-up announcing a virus would show every few minutes, very annoying.

TM advertises 2-level, 24 x 7 support. I called, waited and got the level 1 techie. Following his instructions for about 1/2 hour, install, un-install, boot, re-boot etc. no help. On the final boot I watched helplessly as all on-screen icons disappeared one by one and then a black screen. Following instructions to re-boot, safe mode and etc, nothing, black screen. The techie gave up and said a level 2 engineer would call within 24 hours.
I didn't get the call so in a couple of days I called TM, after about 1/2 hour of conversation they refused the level 2 support and told me to go back to the computer manufacturer. In the meantime I had fired up the back-up computer, same thing, icons disappeared, black screen.
In the end I took both computers to the shop, they scrubbed the drives and did a fresh install of the OS. I contacted TM and, since this entire process took over a month, they refused a refund.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Bugs, terrible, unqualified support
by wally-mc on October 9, 2009
Pros: 2009 was a good release, easy to use.
Cons: 2010 has bugs. The support technicians don't know how to capture a bug report. They take the attitude that it's a user problem. They have you go through routines that are unrelated to the problem. I've uninstalled the product.
Summary: Their support sucks!

Bills credit card without notification
by Ryan18rmr on September 23, 2009
Pros: Had it for 3 years and it never detected or removed anything.
Cons: There billing is very dishonest. An honest company would have an opt-in system or at least provide notification prior to billing. They will rip you off big time and make it extremely difficult for you to cancel.
