The good: The Sonos Sub has a unique, eye-catching design and its wireless function works from anywhere in a room (though it does have to be plugged in). It really augments the sound of your Play speakers and the setup is a breeze.
The bad: Its finish doesn't match any other Sonos components and the Sub doesn't work as well with the Connect: Amp. It's expensive and won't work outside of a Sonos system.
The bottom line: The Sonos Sub provides an instant upgrade to your Sonos Play speaker system, but it's quite pricey.

Summary: I bought the sub to accompany the sonos playbar I ordered. The sub arrived before the playbar so I paired it with two play 5's I have in the kitchen until the playbar arrived. Once the playbar arrived I set it up in the bedroom with two play 3's and the playbar.
The delivery was simple, ups dropped it off at my neighbors house(if they would have only know what was in the box). It was packed in a big box, with a box inside around the sonos box, so it was well packed. The outer box was a little too big so there were some tears in it and it made it a little awkward to carry from the neighbors house back to mine. But once I finished unpacking all the boxes the sub was all safe and sound. In the box was the sub, power cord and a flat Ethernet cord. The connections are on the bottom of the sub, one power and one Ethernet connector. I have a wireless bridge so I don't use the Ethernet cables.
Setup was a snap as with all sonos products. I am using a wireless bridge so I just open the sonos app and select add a new device, then press the button on the amp and it joins your sonos setup. Then it asks some questions to optimize sound, the sub plays two sounds and asks which is louder and then it plays the sound and let's you adjust the levels. And that's it, sub is setup and all ready to go.
On both set ups (play 5's and soundbar) the sub takes over the low frequency sounds which allows the other sonos devices to focus on the mids and highs. In my non-professional non-audiophile opinion the sub really allows the other sonos components to shine. It's great for movies with the playbar and music with both the playbar and the play 5's. I was not sure about spending that much on a sub, but now after having it I do not regret the purchase at all. I'd actually highly recommend it.
The sub I got was the glossy sub which really attracts dust and fingerprints if you touch it. I would prefer a matte sub but as it turns out that's not really a choice. Sonos only produced a limited number of matte subs and it doesn't look like they'll be making any more. If they do I'm going to get another one for my kitchen/loft play 5's.

Pros: I agree with the reviews. The sound is so much better than anything else out there I have reversed my belief about it being too pricey. The quality of the sound and what it has added to my listening experience, makes it a bargain!
Cons: in a perfect world one could adjust volume/bass on the device not through the controller......
Pros: Booming sound with an easy set up and wireless!
Cons: Very expensive

Summary: I just purchased this last component to my home theater and I can say I am now hooked on Sonos! This sound system is simply the best on the market and is so easy to set up it is sick. I have owned many systems, from Sony to Onkyo to Pioneer and nothing compares. Even the Bose systems I tested in the Magnolia section of Best Buy struggled to compare. Plus no system is fully wireless and works off of your existing Wifi. See what Sonos does best is connects to existing Wifi to become part of your digital household. Plus it just looks nice and the sound is crisp and true 5.1 surround. Adding this sub to my Playbar and two Play 3s completed what already was a booming sound. Now I crank this up and it is like Thunder shaking the house. I can't even put it at the top levels it is so strong. Plus playing music through the system is unbelievable, using my existing iTunes library and internet radio stations. When I needed to optimize the system, I called Sonos Tech support and they actually were able to log on and see my system and help me from their offices with diagnostics. The future is finally here and no more wires running all over the room. You plug in and hit one button and you are connected and up and running. Everything from the packaging to instructions is almost exactly like an Apple product, seamless and simple. Try this and you will never return to another system. The people I know that bought this system, brought their Bose system to the basement for a yard sale! Do yourself a favor, buy this system!
