Great sound for small speakers.
by llpinoyboy607 on January 6, 2006
Pros: The speakers are small but create great clear sound. The subwoofer also can be hidden with its small rectangular form.
Cons: You are required to connect the speakers to the subwoofer first and the subwoofer is not powered.
Summary: I have had this speaker set for almost ten years and it still works great. It works as good as the speakers in the theaters but within a small form. ...

Bose AM 5 speakers are PERFECT for Surround Sound!!!
by CONANFA18 on February 26, 2013
Pros: Bose AM5s were the original cube speakers, and still produce awesome sound. Best surround sound possible comes from using 2 sets of AM5s, one for the Front L&R, and the 2nd set for the Surround L&R channels. AM5s allow for you to control the pow
Cons: Base response is weak, which is easily handled by a decent sub-woofer.

Summary: Bose AM5s for the Front and Surround L&R channels...add a Bose VCS-10 center channel speaker, and a Yamaha YST-FSW 150 sub-woofer, and connect it all to a decent modern AV Receiver like the Yamaha RX-V671 - you will have the best surround sound speaker system out there. Sound is AMAZING Disregard the Bose naysayers.

I would recommend to anybody who has an older receiver.
by spikeydewd on April 12, 2012
Pros: It has a strong tight bass, and the cube speakers (others can be used with it) work flawlessly. The sound can be used for larger rooms if you have the power for it.
Cons: There is no balance knob to control the amount of treble and bass. but no big deal/

Summary: I am usign this system with Sony cubes (my uncle gave me the subwoofer and kept the bose cubes). they sound just as good. however, this is my b channel. My A channel on my Onkyo TX-1500 vintage is using AR 18b's. my old speakers dont give me full bass, but my Bose subwoofer covers it.
For a while, I used it alone with just the cube speakers, and it provides an incredible thump when i turn it up, but it can be eliminated if you don't want it. the sub pass to the cubes is smooth and there is very little coloration and distortion.
Overall, I would recommend these to anybody who is looking for good quality sound, has a low budget, and loves the Bose signiture sound.

Nice speakers, excellent sound

Pros: Great clear sound for both music and movies
Cons: Bass module is kind of weak, but a powered subwoofer took care of that problem.

Summary: I actually have two sets of these speakers, one for my front speakers and a set for my rear speakers. Two bass modules and a subwoofer take care of the low end sound. The highs from the satellite speakers are very clear. I ended up buying the second set from ebay for around $150 after paying full price a number of years ago for the other set. Combined with an Pioneer Elite VSX23 receiver and it makes for some great sounding movies and music.

Pretty good for the price I got
by pointer165-2009 on November 23, 2010
Pros: I had NO CLUE that Bose now gives you a huge discount when you trade in your old Bose,so these came to a little over $200 .. if you hook these up to ur TV using OPTICAL wire,so EASY, the sound is OUTRAGEOUS!. has to go thru the receiver
Cons: I can not see these being used in a large space..I have a studio and it's just enough
Summary: They are so clean, sharp looking in ANY space..just the look is kool and I have that big box OUT on top of my armoire..no one notices it ...

Summary: They are so clean, sharp looking in ANY space..just the look is kool and I have that big box OUT on top of my armoire..no one notices it really cause it's black and I went from one speaker on left & right to two cubes , that are VERY HEAVY, so they will not fall off anything..love Bose and the people that work there, the BEST!

Ok in small rooms, but lacks in sound quality.
by AndreaRugarli on October 7, 2008
Pros: Attractive design, no distorsion at high volumes, compact speaker system,
Very nice crispy sound and excellent treble, cube speakers are made with an efficient direct/ reflecting tecnology
Cons: The passive " Acoustimass module" reproduces very weak bass, not at all deep and rich. Dissapointing midrange deficiency, easely localizable subwoofer,
abnormal Bose's connection creates problems with the reciver,
Very expensive for the value
Summary: The Bose Acoustimass 5 is a well constructed and beautifly designed speaker system. The tiny, attractive, direct/ reflecting cube speakers provide a powerful

Summary: The Bose Acoustimass 5 is a well constructed and beautifly designed speaker system. The tiny, attractive, direct/ reflecting cube speakers provide a powerful
and crispy sound with no distorsion. On the other hand, the module was very dissapointing when i tried it. I turned the bass control on the reciver at the max, but the subwoofer still was very weak. It sounded nearly like a PC speaker system subwoofer. I even tried to move the module in the corner of the room but that made it very localizable. I also noticed that there was a deep gap between the low and high frequences (consequense of the cube speakers, only made of 2 tweeters and no midrange drivers). As a result, music sounded poorly. Another problem that i found, was related to the connection (front speakers, like all bose systems, have to pass through the passive module and then both the suwoofer's signal and the satellite's, directly to the reciver). Infact, there wasn't the possibility to regulate the crossover and the subwoofer on the recivers options, obviously. I also reccomend
to avoid using the automatic speaker calibration on this system. As a conclusion,
i would suggest to buy the Acoustimass 5 if you are looking for a compact home theatre system, to perform in movies and to create a lifelike sound reproduction.
It is very expensive for the value, but this is a Bose product, so if you don't care
of audiophile sound quality, this can be a good choice.

Pros: The speakers provide an excellent sound in a small enviroment such as an apartment bedroom or small den. Very crispy nice sounds from TVs DVDs and Radio. Worth the money.
