Summary: I decided to purchase this for a condo. Based on the reviews of performance on small / medium size rooms. The seating area of the room is mostly enclosed by glass behind the sofa. This was one of the drivers of the purchase, I simply had no elegant solution that looked good. This was a good compromise.
I went from un-boxing to listening in 10 minutes. Setup was a breeze and comes with all the cables needed. No speaker wire is needed at all with this. The optical went to my TV and then plug in bass module and soundbar and done. Run the calibration and you are set. The calibration seemed pretty high tech. The system basically told me to be quiet and stop moving so it could do its job. Not only that, it asks you to sit in 5 unique seating positions and I really only had 4 so I thought I could just repeat spot #4 but no, it told me that I am sitting in a previously configured location! Makes me think that the setup is really able to calibrate and measure the acoustics of the room. I have had similar receiver setups that had mics do setup as well but this one seemed more advanced, and rightly so, it needs to bounce signals off walls where traditional systems have fixed speaker positions.
I tested a bunch of content, regular stereo, some Dolby Digital and DTS. The professional content sounded great, there was definitely some surround sound that felt very strange because I knew there were no speakers. I tested Avatar and was really impressed that I felt a surround experience. It may not have been as good as true speakers there but I found it was still pretty good. That is what this is, a balance between aesthetics and good sound with minimal footprint. For the money, you could likely get much more but there is more setup, more wires and more visual components to the system so for a condo, I am happy with the purchase. I also tested sports and was again impressed by hearing background fan noises.
I should also mention, I have a young kid and previously had a Harmon Karmon receiver with Energy speakers. The young one likes pushing buttons and turning knobs so I always found sound settings changed on the receiver and trying to get it back became a chore. There is no knobs on the Bose so it is always reliably the same sound. Another great feature is it has a few different inputs and is auto-sensing/switching so if only one source is playing, the Bose will pick it up and start playing.
In summary, it is great sounding but not the best money can buy at this price point. If looks and minimal clutter and wires are important and you want easy, reliable great sound with no fussing with settings, this might be right for you (there is a bass knob on the bass module). In the future, I plan to move out of the condo and into a house and at that point I will get a full surround experience and move this to another room.
Pros:
- setup was a breeze (no wires or extensive configuration)
- great sound and even surround sound was much better than I expected from the small components
- visual design and size
Cons:
- remote was a let down, it has a ton of codes but misses basic functionality of controlling devices. For instance, it doesn't have a 'back' button and the TV mapping for my TV was very poorly done. Only really did on/off and direction pad. Couldn't navigate the Smart part of my SmartTV. The remote design was actually good and I hoped it would have worked, even contacted support but in the end, it was added to my remote pile but my Harmony remote controls the Bose so not all is lost.

Fill a room with 1.1 surround.
by Turnerboy001 on May 14, 2012
Pros: Spacious / emersive sound within a small package. Sound is able to shoot across room to simulate the "Surround Sound" experience, without all the hassle of wiring a 5 speaker.
Cons: As of this moment in time. There are no Cons ;)
Summary: The best soundbar I have heard to date. Probably the best thing about the 1SR is that no matter how big of a room you put it in, it will ...

Summary: The best soundbar I have heard to date. Probably the best thing about the 1SR is that no matter how big of a room you put it in, it will adapt to it! Basically, you sit in 5 different locations with a goofy looking headset on, and the system interacts with the acoustics of the room. Haha, technology is outrageous!

Poor quality sound for the price
by Krazyknuk on March 4, 2013
Pros: Easy Setup
Cons: For something that cost 1,500 I did expect a premium sound. Was quite dissapointed with the audio quality of this. I bought both this and the HK SB16. The HK's bass was much better and had more defined mid-range at roughly half the price.
Summary: Don't waste your money there are much better products out there.
