The good: The Energy Take Classic 5.1 offers outstanding sound quality for a compact surround-sound speaker system. All of the speakers feature a beautiful piano-black finish, looking more expensive than the system's budget price. Altogether, the system is one of the best home theater values available.
The bad: Pioneer's SP-PK21BS sounds better for the same price, although it's a much larger system.
The bottom line: The Energy Take Classic 5.1 is the best budget speaker system we've reviewed, earning our Editors' Choice Award with its outstanding sound quality and exquisite looks.

These Take 5 Energy Speakers are great- Costco $299
by Mowcom on September 9, 2009
Pros: The Sub Woofer is very strong and delivers a much deeper sound without washing out compared to my old Yamaha SW 45 Entry level sub woofer. The center speaker is very clear and loud
Cons: The front speakers sound great in 5.1 but are a not as loud as my old front speakers for 2 channel stereo

Summary: I just purchased this system from a local circuit city for $125!!!! I heard about this system a few days ago from Cnet and I decided to buy one....and then I heard that a few people have bought them at ccity for 300$. So I decided I would see if my local ccity had them, and they did! I couldn't believe it! I immediately hooked them up and popped in a blu-ray disc. Only one word can describe this system: WOW! everything is so clear, crisp and LOUD! Even the small sub, which I was skeptical about was so LOUD! I would have paid $500 + for this system. I am really impressed with this system and it definately blows away any HTIB! I have mine hooked up to an onkyo tx-sr605 and it sounds great! Definately worth $600 retail...I'm glad I got mine for $125 though! :)

Summary: I always read the CNET reviews. So when I saw this review it started me thinking. I have older JBL surround speakers with my Onkyo & was thinking maybe in a year or so get a very nice set of speakers. Then CNET had reviewed the Energy Classic. I decided I would get these when the time was right. I was happy with my JBL's so I was in not hurry. THEN I walked into Circuit City to check out there going out of buisness sell. They had 5 boxes of the Classic setting by the door. Energy must be the best kept secret around. No one was giving them a look. Then I saw the price was $299 & I went for it. Got them home & set them up on speaker stands & hooked them up & WOW! Since then have been replaying my DVD's & Blue-ray movies because of the sound I have missed all these years. On "Master & Commander" the opening scene I was able to hear every groan & creak of the ship as it moved through the sea. Then when the ship was fired upon I could hear wood splinter bounce around my living room. The cannon balls hitting the ship was delightful. TV even sounds clean. Every movies is very clean & sound is every where. As for music, the sound is like it was meant to be. It fills the room & is very clean. These speackers are a bargin at $399 but a steal at $299.

Just bought it for $293.72!!
by LSxChevelle on October 17, 2009
Pros: Great sound in a small, affordable, and attractive package.
Cons: While I do like the high gloss on the speakers it is also easy to see dust and any smudges...nothing I'm too worried about.

Summary: So how can I complain when I buy the sub at Costco for $99.97 (after $60 instant rebate) and found the satelites online for $179.99 shipped!! I have had a Kenwood all-in-one package that I have been satisfied with but with a soon to be purchased 55" LED on the way I wanted a small upgrade. Well the small upgrade was great!

I took the bait and bought these to replace My Bose AM10's.
The reviews led me to believe this would be an upgrade, they are not.
The sound is "boxy"..and the bass is almost non existant..and yes I have the woofer turned on.
I am running them through my Onkyo TX-SR705,and with calebrating using Audessy the system dissapoints.
I'll be saving my cash for a Definitive Technology system to replace this transistor radio sounding trash. -
Major disappointment in the product and the CNET review
by menloknight on June 5, 2012
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: This sound system was a major disappointment! If you are looking for rich sounding speakers that can cover a wide range look elsewhere. The high end is completely missing.

Summary: For years i have owned a pair of low end Yamaha speakers. I decided based on the editor's review to purchase the 5.1 system. Every time i turn on the sound system i am disappointed. If you are seeking a sound system that will provide a rich sound with your stereo or TV look elsewhere.
This is the danger when you cannot hear a sound system in retail outlet prior to purchasing audio spekers. After 9 months the speakers are in a box in the garage and i am out $400. I have learned my lesson. I hope i have also prevented someone else from making the same mistake. -
Amazing system with great highs and lows

I use this system with a yamaha high end amp 7.1 channel.
Make sure to run music at a lower level for about 50 hours before turning it to loud. this will help break in the speakers, and yes, the sound does improve with more hours of playtime. Although these speakers are amazing with a great SUB, the system is only as good as your amp. It is important to adjust your amp properly with the right phase, crossover and speaker settings (small). Understanding your amp and how it works will make this speaker system sound amazing. I am using it in a theater room that is 16X23 and the sound is amazing. I reccomend this system to anyone who enjoys musi and wants an amazing theater experience at home. -

by tydallen on April 6, 2012
Pros: Great sound!
Great mid range sound!
Bass is phenomenal!Cons: Set-up with the Denon 1912 was difficult. The auto calibration didn't work at all had to be done manually. The Take Energy 5.1 Package is a GREAT BUY for the money!!!

Summary: Finally purchased these speakers along with a Denon 1912 AVR Receiver, The sound is PHENOMENAL. I am so glad I bought these instead of the Bose Cinemate II System I was contemplating. Watching the Masters today I felt like I was right there in the middle of the crowd! Even heard Tiger cussing! These two pieces of hardware along with my Samsung un40d6420 make a superb system.
Worth every penny! -
Dynamite System ! !

Pros: Best (in my opinion) 5.1 budget system available.

Summary: I do a tremendous amount of research before a purchase. I had my "short list" down to the Energy Take Classics, the Definitive Technologies Pro Cinema 60.6, the Jamo 606S and the Pinnacles. After auditioning all of these, I decided on the Takes. The Def Tech's seemed more geared for movies (didn't sound that great with music), I didn''t care for the sound of the Pinnacles and the Jamo's would have required a seperate sub. If you are willing to spend a couple of hundred more, they would still be a good option, and being floorstanders they also performed very well with music sources. All in all though, for my needs and budget, the Takes were my #1 choice and I have beeen very pleased overall. I would give a very strong recommendation.
