The good: The Energy Take Classic 5.1 offers outstanding sound quality for a compact surround-sound speaker system. All of the speakers feature a beautiful piano-black finish, looking more expensive than the system's budget price. Altogether, the system is one of the best home theater values available.
The bad: Pioneer's SP-PK21BS sounds better for the same price, although it's a much larger system.
The bottom line: The Energy Take Classic 5.1 is the best budget speaker system we've reviewed, earning our Editors' Choice Award with its outstanding sound quality and exquisite looks.

Dynamite System ! !

Pros: Best (in my opinion) 5.1 budget system available.

Summary: I do a tremendous amount of research before a purchase. I had my "short list" down to the Energy Take Classics, the Definitive Technologies Pro Cinema 60.6, the Jamo 606S and the Pinnacles. After auditioning all of these, I decided on the Takes. The Def Tech's seemed more geared for movies (didn't sound that great with music), I didn''t care for the sound of the Pinnacles and the Jamo's would have required a seperate sub. If you are willing to spend a couple of hundred more, they would still be a good option, and being floorstanders they also performed very well with music sources. All in all though, for my needs and budget, the Takes were my #1 choice and I have beeen very pleased overall. I would give a very strong recommendation.

Big sound!

Pros: Great looking speakers. Great sounding speakers! I owned Klipsch Quintet II set before, but these are an upgrade!
Cons: Can't think of any yet.

Summary: Like I said, I owned the Klipsch Quintets prior to this set. The problem was I had upgraded to a more powerful Denon amp. When I watched movies, the Denon would shut off in protection mode when there was a short burst of sound, say an explosion in the movie. Through trial and error, I decided the Klipsch couldn't handle the burst of power. They are rated at 50 watts per channel, if I remember. So I decided on the Energy Take Clasics based on user reviews and CNet's review. Never heard them before, so it was kind of a risk on my part, but I saw they were rated at 100 watts per channel. My Denon puts out 90 per. WOW! Am I ever glad I got them. The sound is dynamic! The center channel is stronger so dialog is easier to hear. These speakers don't sound like they're over worked when I crank them up. I understand Klipsch makes these speakers as well, but they are an upgrade from the Quintets, which until now I have been very pleased with. So probem solved. No more cutting out of the amp to protection mode. I couldn't be happier right now!

Excellent sound when setup with my Pioneer VSX-1919AH!
by eccoman on October 9, 2010
Pros: Surprising sound, great value for money! If you're on a budget these are about the best available.
Cons: When I first looked at them I thought them cheap and they may be made out of a type of particleboard/cardboard..............But the sound cannot be denied!!

Summary: Because I live in a foreign land I purchased just the 5 satellite speakers on ebay and have since "married" them to a Klipsch Synergy 12" Subwoofer. Happy to say they get on like they were made for each other. The fact that Kipsch owns Energy and the Klipsch Synergy 12" is of the same design as the Energy 8" Sub that is supposed to go with these speakers is probably the reason the sound is sooo fantastic!!!

Mounting questions under Summary section please!
by gleckler on June 22, 2009
Pros: I only have the rears and center hooked up along with my older Polk tower fronts, but after 2 blu ray movies, the center channel is crisp and sounds as good as my Polk center that is four times larger. Sub is very nice.
Cons: None yet, have not fully tested w/ all five speakers. Please see Question below about mounting...
Summary: I need to mount the two fronts on each side of my 55" plasma hanging on the wall, which sticks out about 7". I don't want my two front ...
Summary: I need to mount the two fronts on each side of my 55" plasma hanging on the wall, which sticks out about 7". I don't want my two front speakers lagging back for dispersion problems, plus it would look odd. Any suggestions.
CNET says that Omni wall mounts work and that Energy suggests not mounting the speakers directly against the wall anyway, will loose bass or something. They need to be extended out. If I can find the proper mount that will stick the speakers out a few inches, I can solve both issues....being flush w/ TV, and not losing bass.
I have never mounted speakers before, my guy is coming later today to run wire up behind my wall for mounting.
1. Which mounting brackets will work? 2. I live in St. Louis, where might I find them if you know a store? 3. Should they be flush with the front of the TV, which although wall mounted, sticks out 7 inches?
Side note:
Energy suggest mounting the rear speakers 6 feet high? Is that necessary? The diagram on the manual shows the two front speakers very high in relation to the TV which is mounted on the wall, higher than the viewers ear level would be, any suggestions?

At this price range this system lacks hardware.
by bus on January 29, 2011
Pros: The best feature is the power saver function of the sub-woofer. My older system was always very warm to the touch. I finally hooked it up on a switch so I could turn it off when not in use.
Cons: At this price range the system should have come with a wire harness and the controls for the sub-woofer should be available in a hand held remote control.

Summary: I have owned for over 15 years a Klipsch speaker system for my computers. I went shopping for a High Definition Theater system to go along with my 32"TV, I was delighted to see a Klipsch system to fill the job. My older surround system came with a wire harness and accessible controls. I was disappointed to find this system did not come with a wire harness that would allow the purchaser to at least hear and test the speaker system out before spending more for hook up wire. My disappointment deepened when I discovered the woofer controls were on the back of the unit. At this price range, the controls for the sub-woofer should be hand held remote or at least be front accessible. I have decided to look elsewhere.
