The good: Sound bar home theater system; very thin design; wireless subwoofer; surprisingly solid sound quality on movies, given its size; three inputs (two optical, one minijack); simple setup; useful "smart volume" control.
The bad: No HDMI connectivity; sounds lackluster with music; faux-surround effects are mild.
The bottom line: The Samsung HW-C450 is an exceedingly thin sound bar home theater system that sounds surprisingly good with movies, but lacks HDMI connectivity.

Good at what it does but not without hiccups
by Wyze2000 on December 16, 2010
Pros: Good Price, Nice design, Brings depth to movies that LED Tv speakers simply can't replicate.
Cons: Can't see display while seated if its mounted anywhere near eye level.

Summary: For the size of my condo's living room it easily fills the room with robust sound when watching movies(I barely go higher than lvl 12). Compared to my Samsung 5.1 HTIB, while you don't get all the true effects(helicopter coming in from the left and departing right), its minimalistic design isn't as intruding. It's easy to forget the sub-woofer is their until a boomy part of the movie arrives.
I agree with the other reviewers on the following points:
1) Sporadically switches input to the second digital input;
2) You will get an echo if you leave the tv speakers on but this will happen with any system if you "double up";
3) Optic audio input only...no problem for my TV or PS3;
4) Sounds great for movies (I use the drama setting for all movies as cinema heightens the overall bass too much for my taste);
5) I have no real issues with the sound when listening to music.
6) Remote doesn't control TV unless it's a Samsung (Confirmed as I also own a Samsung LCD)
Overall I'm more than pleased with my purchase especially since I got it for $150 as an open box special!!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good for the price but has problems
by meddy6168usa on November 11, 2010
Pros: Good price and sounds good
Cons: It has a bad echo anytime you have your tv volume on. Sometimes it switches the amp. to other settings by itself. . Sometimes its not responsive and I have to unplug it to get it to restart.
Summary: Sometimes it changes the volume up all the way or down all the way by itself and I have to restart it to get the volume to go down or ...

Volume control a drawback
by packerfan222 on August 18, 2010
Pros: Pretty easy to setup, excellent sound.
Cons: I'd never seen an "optical" connection before - that was a bit of a challenge. Using with a Panasonic Vizio TV.Cons: Unless you specify "speaker off", the TV sound interferes with the sound bar, producing an annoying echo. TV remote can't change soundbar volume, therefore 2 remotes are req'd. Probably would work better with a Samsung TV or a Panasonic soundbar.
Summary: Excellent sound, good cost - I'd question buying again because of volume control issue.

Summary: i think the internal wiring in the sound bar is faulty on alot of these units, I first had mine hooked to dig. out 1 worked great for a few weeks. Well i wanted to see how nice this thing really sounded so i turned it to a music channel and turned it up(not even close to distorting) sounded amazing i couldnt believe it out of such a small unit well next day turned tv on like normal and after a few minutes i noticed that the sound kept cutting out so i tried everything i could to fix itand absolutely nothing worked as far as settings so after a couple days i couldnt take it no more so i unmounted to switch to dig. out 2..... amazing!!!!!!!!!! worked great!!!!!!!!!!! so last night i decided i would here some music at a higher volume(nowhere near distortion) well this morning i turn the tv on and same thing with the pcm flashing every 3 seconds....( very very very annoying) so point of the story if u have one of these sound bars appearantly DONT TURN IT UP not even to a above moderate level..... what a piece of crap< i'll try a new one but if it happens again i will definetly switch product brand!!!!!!!!!!!!! its 2011 bout to be 2012 step your game up samsung

Great addition to Samsung TV

The HW-C450 solves the problem without adding any complexity to my modest setup (TIVO, Blue-ray, TV, that's it). Upside of optical is that the wire is much thiner as less noticeable compared to HDMI cable.

Sleek, easy and cheap.
by BS_MD on February 16, 2011
Pros: Price is great. Sleek look. Gets LOUD. Wireless sub. Cute remote with some options.
Cons: Not as good as Bose CinemateII. Bar is like 1/4" taller than the bottom border of my NX810.
Summary: Had to get something for my NX810 55". Voices are already MUCH better. This is the best soundbar at hhgregg except for Bose CinemateII/GS. It is less than half ...

Awsome and affordable home theatre system!
by Chris_1976 on September 20, 2010
Pros: Great sound...has enough watts and base to have some balls. Wireless sub has no connections issues and works like a charm. Styling is nice and matches my Samsung 55C650. Don't have any issues with the lack of outputs.
Cons: Can't see the volume display from a seated position.
Summary: For the price, I couldn't have made a better decision. It takes up no room, it looks really good, and it sounds really good for movies. Do it!
