  Very impressive yet very disapointing.

  Pros: I traded a RUF and a 4.4 x5 because i have kids and windsurf and wanted to consolidate. It is extremly quick and agile for a SAV. Love the look and comfort. push of a botton and you go from comfort to race. VERY FUN

  Cons: car has 5000 miles and a whining noise is ever present andseems to resemble a stearing rack without fluid. Worst at deaccelarating. Took to the dealer they at this point say have NO FIXES.....are you kidding me?????? ***!!!!!!

  I Have It and Love it!

  Pros: I just purchased a 2011 X5 M, White with Beige Interior. Having owned 6 BMW's previously, it is hands down the best in performance and beauty. I got up to 132 miles/hr on the freeway in a heartbeat. Great performance! Push the M button and blast off

  Cons: A little jerky starting from zero in M-mode... Smooth starts in regular mode though. Also I notice a slight pause before the turbos kick in, but very slight... but when they do... watch out. Otherwise I like everything about it.

  Summary: Having owned a X3, X5 and X6, and a Z4 M (2007), I can say this is far and away the best performance and handling BMW I have owned. I highly recommend a high quality radar detector to protect yourself, because it is tough going slow in this beast ;-)

  You missed the point...

  Summary: This review is a bit silly. It concentrates heavily on the technical aspects of the car like the nav system, and the gas mileage. However, this is a car for hard-core enthusiasts, and I personally could care less about many of the bells and whistles.
  
  The focus should be on the performance and handling characteristics, and the overall driver experience (ride quality, etc.).
  
  I have test-driven this car. I am still considering buying one.
  
  The handling is superb -- imagine driving a go cart that happens to be an SUV.
  
  The biggest disappointment is poor low-end torque. When I gunned it, I expected a surge of power. Instead, you get that typical turbo feeling of a slow takeoff followed by a surge as you hit the turbo. In other words, this is a car that lives past 1,750 RPM, when the turbos kick in. BMW amped up the horsepower through the use of turbos and it shows.
  
  So if you get this car, I think you'll need to prepare yourself for living at high RPMs if you want to really feel the power.
  
  I did drive over some bumpy roads and the ride is bumpy but decent. Because the suspension is so highly tuned, you do feel the bumps but the car is not swaying as you go over rough terrain. So there is a balance.
  
  In short, an impressive sports performer, a beautiful car, but test-drive one before you buy it to make sure its performance characteristics match your particular desires.

  A brilliant vehicle with a few warts

  Pros: The driving characteristics are really amazing. The engine pulls like mad pretty much all the time, and the handling defies belief. It's also extremely comfortable inside and has plenty of bells and whistles.

  Cons: As noted, the navigation system stinks. The color scheme is awful, and the algorithms are annoyingly stubborn to adapt to driver-initiated route changes. The entertainment system also has some annoying quirks with how they tag songs that you upload

  Summary: The review is pretty accurate, but some of the nitpicking smells of complaining for complaining's sake. Yes, the fuel economy sucks, but there's a price to be paid for an engine that has this much power...but you know that before you buy it. The automatic transmission would presumably be a weak link, but driving it erases any fears, as the slushbox is amazingly good (especially the paddles). Yes, Sport mode stinks, but use the paddles instead. The NAV sucks, no way around it. The new iDrive system is noticeably better, but it still has some quirks, particularly using Gracenote's DB for music on the hard drive.
  
  All that said, it's got enough room for five people with gear, and it also has enough power and handling to mimic a roller coaster. For someone who needs the practicality of an SUV but doesn't want to sacrifice the joys of a sports car, this is one of the only tickets in town.
