- As tested, our 2.4-liter 2011 Kia Sorento EX is a pretty good value, with lots of space, acceptable performance, and a surprisingly good array of cabin technology; the 3.5-liter V-6 model has more power and a few more cabin niceties.

2011 Kia Sorento EX FWD price range: $24,595.00

The good: The Kia Sorento features attractive styling and decent performance, even with its 2.4-liter engine. Bluetooth, USB, and iPod connectivity are all standard. The optional navigation system with real-time traffic is a low-priced steal. Available fold-flat third-row seating and all-wheel drive greatly increase the flexibility of this CUV.
The bad: Firmer suspension tuning contributes to increased levels of road noise. The Infinity-branded premium audio system doesn't sound very premium to our ears.
The bottom line: As tested, our 2.4-liter 2011 Kia Sorento EX is a pretty good value, with lots of space, acceptable performance, and a surprisingly good array of cabin technology; the 3.5-liter V-6 model has more power and a few more cabin niceties.

Hard to beat value

Pros: Styling, Features, Size, Value
Cons: Odd feature omissions on LX model (no outside temp gauge)

Summary: I am the type of buyer that can afford a Lexus but refuses to pay a large premium for small differences. Aside from anticipated quality/reliability brand is irrelevant. I attempt to make a rational rather than an emotional decision. After months of research and shopping I chose the 2011 Sorento EX V6 AWD. MSRP $30,305. Great package ? EX goodies w/o pricey non-essentials. It was a surprise outcome. The competition mentioned in many of the expert reviews missed the mark. For example it is inapt to consider the RAV4, CRV and other 5 seaters as competitors. No matter what the specs say the Sorento is in a different size class with a usable 3rd row. I would consider the Journey, Jeep and Equinox comparable in size but only the Journey offers the 3rd row. The better comparison is the Pilot, Highlander, Traverse, CX9, etc. I also suspect many will prefer the smartly sized Sorento over these larger competitors. The Sorento is either vastly superior in size/features/design to the smaller class or a vastly better value compared to the larger class. Considering the deeper discounts on the Sorento there is closer to a $6-8K difference OTD comparably equipped to this latter group. For those looking for styling, quality and value and if you aren?t a brand snob the Sorento is a no-brainer. As a side note I usually opt for the 4cyl option in my new cars. In this case if you can afford it go for the 6 ? you won?t regret it.

Phenominal Decision!!

Pros: Wow...what can I say...I didn't think I could get a modern new mid-size SUV for the money.
Cons: None. I really cannot think of any!

Summary: I bought a used 2011 2.4 16V FWD 4 cylinder for $19,995. It has all the bells and whistels including heated seats, rear view camera, blootooth, ipod, fog lamps, etc! I say this is a MUST BUY! The fuel economy is also great! This little gem has all the bells and whistles I need. The family absolutely loves it. I love the bluetooth technology and modern interier. I love also the turn signals on the rear view mirrors!

Great value...lots of bells and whistles for the dollar
by saratogaman on August 13, 2010
Pros: I-4 EX w/3rd row seat. Superb engine /tranny combo...for oomph, push gas pedal to get upshifts in 4,000+ rpm range. Drove V6...I-4 is plenty. Quiet ride, nice tight turning radius
Cons: Tire/ride a little harsh...mfg sticker calls for 33psi...I'm inclined to try 30psi...we'll see.
Summary: I've owned some serious mid-size SUVs (Jimmy, Envoy) and a marginal crossover (Equinox)...the Sorento is a huge bang for the buck. Curiously, my 'American' Equinox was built in ...
Summary: I've owned some serious mid-size SUVs (Jimmy, Envoy) and a marginal crossover (Equinox)...the Sorento is a huge bang for the buck. Curiously, my 'American' Equinox was built in Canada (with a Chinese engine and a Japanese tranny). My Kia was built in Georgia, as well as its engine! Go figure.
Kia is a serious car builder and the local dealer (Kia of Leesburg FL) was no-hassle, matter-of-fact and straightforward...like Saturn tried to be. Go KIA! -
Review compared to '06 RAV4 V6 Limited
by sargenti99 on June 24, 2010
Pros: Price, NAV system w/backup camera & warning system, interior room, voice activated bluetooth
Cons: V6 performance should be better, soft feeling brakes

Summary: I presently own a 06 RAV4 Limited w/ V6, 3rd row seat. I just purchased a 2011 Sorento EX V6 AWD.For just $2K more than I paid for the RAV four years ago,I have leather int, NAV w/ backup camera, Bluetooth, chrome 18?wheels, 6 spd auto, better speed display, rear door goes up not sideways, little more room inside. But, a LOT more performance from RAV,better handling, easier to drive around due to smaller size. Also better mpg. The EX so far w/ 2,200 miles, Best so far freeway 60-80 mph 20 mpg. Pressing V6 may get 16.5-17.7 mph around town. The ride is softer in the EX not as truck like in the RAV. 3rd row seats easier to get into and little more space. My wife LOVES the EX luxurious int and ext. I like the performance of the RAV.

I LOVE THIS CUV!
by jj2955 on June 16, 2010
Pros: A lot of room to carry all the stuff and a very comfortable and good looking ride. It has a lot of tech built into the vehicle and an overall exceptional build quility that surpasses any vehicles I've owned in recent years.
Cons: I wish the LX came with a better stereo, it really needs an amplifier but, it's not the worst stock system on planet earth

Summary: Great overall value for the money and it's built in the Kia plant in West Point Georgia by American workers. I was willing to pay a little more even though I am a frugal shopper for this fact. I owned the 2009 Saturn Vue XR and the Kia's build quality is leaps and bounds over what I experienced from GM/Saturn during the brief ten months of ownership. General Motors should take note of where Kia is headed and what they are manufacturing. It would be awesome if Kia were hired by GM to build some cars for them as it would improve their quality index a little bit. The 27K plus dollar 2009 Saturn Vue I had was made in Mexico and nothing was straight on the car. I was a dedicated and loyal GM fan up to the point that I bought that lemon Vue XR. It will take a lot for GM to earn my business ever again. Good job Kia, you have me as a customer as long as you continue to put out quality like this.
