Amazon Kindle Fire (2012) price range: $159.00

The good: The Kindle Fire (2012) improves on its predecessor in three key ways: faster performance, a better interface with cool new features, and a significant price reduction.
The bad: Designwise it's the same Fire from 2011 with no HD video support, no camera, no HDMI, no storage expansion, and no volume buttons.
The bottom line: The Kindle Fire (2012) takes it up a notch in value, but is tethered to the same design oversights of the original.

Summary: All in all this is a solid, however, cheap device. It feels cheap and the rubberized plastic is easy to bend, don't drop this. My friend had one and the screen SHATTERED the first time it was dropped. I hooked a Sansui 128gb external SSD to mine and Velcroed it to the back. It gave it a lot more room but it eats battery life when attached. Pairs with a WiiMote and PS3 controller for gaming. The 16gb of onboard space is really cramped because it shares space with the OS, so you end up with like 9-11GB. The processor and video graphics are alright, but you would be much better served with a laptop or netbook. As I said the screen is very washed out. Reds look almost pink, blacks look almost grey. It is very hard to see outside even on a cloudy day. Go ahead and spend 400 bucks on a Laptop with Intel HD 4000 graphics and you will have a much better experience.
It is too big to be used as an MP3 player, too small to watch extended movies on, and the battery lasts around 5 hours (which laptops are now giving you 8-10 hours) Nothing more to be said, if you want an Android device, you can find nothing better for the price than this, but like I said, buy an inexpensive Laptop with Windows and be happier. -
The 1 star user review for this device is just dumb.

Pros: Great little budget tablet.

Summary: I don't own this device, but I did own the 2011 kindle fire I now own a Kindle fire HD. And the 2011 kindle fire didn't deserve a 1 star review. So I'm sure this one does not either with the improvements they made. And from people I know who bought this device they say they love it. (But they have never owned a tablet). I love my HD I liked my 2011 fire I love my Ipad more than my Fire HD, but look at the savings. And with the upgrades they made on 2012 Fire it has to be a huge improvement. If you are on a budget and this is your first tablet you will not hate thing you should love it. If you have the money to upgrade to the HD (if you are big in the Amazon ecosystem this would be the way to go Prime membership for sure) If not the Google Nexus should be your next choice. If you have the money for a Ipad mini that would be my next suggestion.

***, I cannot logout of Amazon account. Bad if stolen.

Pros: Easy to use, quick, not a good as Nexus 7 which I also own. nice apps selection on Amazon, good amazon person who uses their products all the time. No Google Play.
Cons: Why did Amazon leave such a huge loop hole in the tablet of not being able to log out of the purchase app? very dumb to me. And a major concern. per email I received from help desk, must deactivate the registration,
Summary: I did that and the apps don't work like supposed to ... ***... really... this is the best they can do on their software? I would not suggest this product just ...
Summary: I did that and the apps don't work like supposed to ... ***... really... this is the best they can do on their software? I would not suggest this product just for that issue alone. No Google play without hacking, another negative. So my options are, leave at home just in case someone steals it and only use it at home. My kid purchased in-app coins on jetpack joyride... had to turn off in-app purchase so this would not occur again. this is just a dumb idea on Amazon's part. I suggest Don't purchase till this issue is resolved. buy a nexus 7 and fewer problems.
Why is this tablet even considered one of the better ones out there by CNET? I really respect Cnet for the most part, but the software loophole is a major flaw not even mentioned in their review.
