The good: Apple's iPad 2 is dramatically thinner and boasts front and rear cameras, FaceTime video chat, a faster processor, and 3G options for both AT&T and Verizon.
The bad: The iPad's screen resolution hasn't budged, photo quality is mediocre, there's still no Adobe Flash support, and ports for HDMI, USB, and SD all require adapters.
The bottom line: The iPad 2 refines an already excellent product. Its easy-to-use interface, vast app catalog, and marathon battery life bolster Apple's claim to being the king of tablets.

Don't understand all the love for this devise.

Summary: Wife and I wanted tablets to stay connected while at work, and on travel because large corporation she works for doesn't allow interaction with google calendar on their laptops through their network. So, it worked great for that purpose. Facetime is also fantastic for a traveling parent to talk to kids every day. The form factor, size, weight, etc, and the ability to access the web without mousing around are also all a big plus.
My major gripe with the Ipad...connectivity.
OK, I listen to all the Apple lovers spout off about USB being old technology, but you now what, it's still the best way to get data in and out of a devise. Period. You can play around with I-tunes, and Cloud computing all you want, but it just won't make up for the inability to easily drag and drop items onto a devise. While i'm on connectivity....So you can buy their camera connection kit with both USB and SD card capability but don't be fooled into thinking you can easily use these to bring movies or documents onto your Ipad. I'm sure there is some greedy corporate reason for this, but without all kinds of converting and basically tricking the Ipad, you can't take home movies and put them on your ipad for viewing. How's that for back assward? This devise screams to be used to interact with other portable devices and Apple does everything possible to make that difficult. It's hard to believe all the Apple fans are ok with this?
I'll be honest, I love the ipad, and use it every day, but I love it because it's a tablet and the only good option right now. I just really don't like all the "Apple" parts of it. The minute there is a thinner Android option then the Xoom, this baby is going on Ebay.3 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

WATCH OUT FOR COMPUTER RECHARGING
by shriramr84 on March 14, 2011
Pros: Nothing special, it's only got the app store going for it
Cons: IMPORTANT!! The iPad2 does not recharge when connected to MOST computers. The tech support says that only the newest iMacs and Macbook Pros's can support the 10W requirement. So please don't count on USB recharging.

Summary: I can't believe the reviewers at CNET didn't look at the battery recharge issue. Another common report is that safari is pretty cranky. When moving from one page to another, I often had text from the previous page stuck on the screen over which the new page loaded. The only way out was to restart safari after completely killing it. Having used an iPhone4 for a long time now, this has never happened before. I certainly think the iPad2 is really gliltchy, and lacked thorough testing. Some apps crash on me all the time too (even apple made ones like garage band).

Summary: I've played around with one of these for a few days now, and I find it like most Apple products, overrated and overpriced. Tablet have been out for decades and yet this thing seem no better than them. The only thing good about this product is that Apple does a good job putting out flashy software that probably won't be used beyond the first few days. After that, the really addictive software usually comes on on both Android and Windows. Then there is the Apple incompatibility issues. Its not really Word friendly and it being the industry standard of word processor standard, its kinda sad. Finally, even with version two the failed to include anything with anyone complained about, like an SD card slot, USB ports even HDMI out. Cheaper version tablets have more of these features. That and I found the OS hard to navigate. So like most Apple products, its mainly for show, and benefits from half way decent advertising.

This rating is specific to iOS 4.3 - No VPN
by GSFRider on March 15, 2011
Pros: Again, this review is specific to iOS 4.3, not a knock on the hardware.
Cons: After upgrading any Apple device to iOS 4.3 (native on the iPad 2) we no longer have VPN connectivity to corporate networks. Many user have complained of the same issue. Apple must have been aware of this, that or lousy beta testing.
Summary: Let's hope iOS 4.3.1 resolves this issue.

The Bleeding Light is Annoying
by Copperankh on March 12, 2011
Pros: It's thin enough to slice a cake, yet still feels firm enough not to seem flimsy and cheap. There are a lot of tablet-specific appls to purchase and the UI feels snappy and responsive.
Cons: Still too heavy to use as an ebook reader. Requires dongles for HDMI and SD.

Apple cover is very groovy.Cons: Non retina type display, full fledged iPhone 4 quality cameras would have been nice, but fine enough.

Regretful decision to buy

At the time of sale, Apple doesn't mention a very important and critical maintenance aspect of few of its products that is, they do not have a part level
replacement policy.
This I have come to know after contacting the Apple india support. The head supervisor there confirmed that the policy and design of Apple is such that it
leaves no options with the customer, but to re-buy another piece even if the touch screen is cracked.
In my case, the screen got cracked due to keeping the iPad under my pillow after my night time reading. They requested me to send the picutures of the cracks
and said that the cracks are due to external pressure and hence do not come under warranty, leaving me with no other option but to not use the Apple iPad
anymore due to safety reasons. I am left only with this option because I dont want to buy another same product in its replacement. I can as well buy similar
product from other company's offering.
I even offered to give back the product and give me atleast some money. But they said that Apple doesn't have repurchase policy in India.
In addition, the other known Apple issues like unable to play videos ( due to non compatibility of flash player), low sound, no external ports provided like
HDMI, USB etc. The maintenance is also a rip-off. Please note that you will have to buy seperate Apple accessories if you desire to have ports to connect
with other non-Apple devices. Even the sound is low to inspire customer to buy external speakers. The intersting thing is that other similar products in
market have these things built in.
Having burnt my hands after buying my first "Apple" product, I have decided not to buy any future Apple products and highly recommend not to waste so much of anybody's hard earned money to buy such a product. I only wish I had this piece of advice before....1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great Product with Key Functions Crippled by Apple

Summary: We just took our IPAD2 on a seven-week trip. It was great at checking email, the weather, skype, finding maps, and making little films we sent to the family. It could have been a perfect travel compantion. Unfortunately, a lot of things we would have liked to do are not supported by Apple itself--even though they could fairly easily have supported it.
A lot of hotel and accommodation sites use flash, so it is not advisable to rely on it to search for places to stay. We finally found an app browser that at least displays flash, so that helped when sites were suddenly disabled. (I think it is absurd to pay this much for a web device without even the option to turn on flash.)
Apple makes a big deal of 3G. We didn't have 3g, but managed to find wi-fi most places with a little effort. (hint: type things up in advance, so you have only to press send/receive at the wifi. See below.) 3G doesn't work in many places anyway, so that is not worth the extra money.
We bought some movies in English and a tv connector, so we could play them on the television set where we were staying. All from Apple. Which then said we were not allowed to play the movies on this device--meaning the tv. Why not? we paid of the Ipad, the movie and the cable. Two people trying to watch a movie on IPad doesn't work.
We couldn't drop photos in the file we shared with the family in Dropbox because Apple's camera roll doesn't support Dropbox. Why not? ICloud didn't exist, and now that it does, it only allows you to share files with your other apple devices, not with friends and family like Dropbox. They are our photos, no Apple's. This would be so simple to do. Or have a filing system, so we could do it ourselves.
And speaking of that. Anybody who says Apples are easier has never had to you that scrambled egg call ITunes as a their filing system--which is effectively what Apple forces Ipad users to do. So you have no filing system at all on the road. Don't buy the Apple apps that create documents. Find others that support things like Dropbox.
Typing on the screen keyboard in two languages with the infuriating autocorrect was a pain. It took an hour to spit out a few paragraphs. Next time, we would take a keyboard. Is there anyway to turn autocorrect off? We couldn't find it. We did like the international keyboards. That works well, though it takes a lot of looking around to install the keyboard then know how to select it.
Even though the apps exist, doing serious computing on the Ipad2 is impossible. We did like their travel spreadsheet template and used it all through the trip. We were forced to create Keynote presentations in other software and import before we left. We could then tweak it on the Ipad, but it would have taken a year to create it. Don't imagine you can do keynotes on the road.
We also bought a connection for our camera to the Ipad. But we were unable to use it because the Ipad couldn't handle the file formats except for low res jpegs and doesn't support Dropbox, so we could just send them home in their existing format.
IOS5/ICloud hasn't cured these problems that we can see. Had we been able to do some of these things, the IPad2 would have been a perfect travel companion.
Now that we are home, it's a wonderful thing to have around the house. Ours was a retirement present, but a rather expensive way to check your email and keep a to-do list. And very frustrating that it could do so much more if Apple would change just a few things. But apparently they have no intention of ever doing that according to your review. Without an attitude change, I don't think we would buy another IPad. A tablet certainly, but one without the shackles. It makes me wonder if the IPad is to survive as any more that the first of its kind.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Lighter,Yes. But Balance Is Thrown Off
by cynthianna on March 17, 2011
Pros: It definitely seems faster and lighter than the original, and has pretty much everything you liked in the first version. If you want a very basic camera, then go for it. I don't think the improvements warrant selling your old iPad to upgrade, though.
Cons: Not Well Balanced: The curved corners and thin design actually make this harder to hold. While the curve works well for the iPod, iPhone, and a smaller eReader, it seems to throw the balance off on this tablet. If you try to hold with one hand near the
Summary: A great device, like the first version, but not worth upgrading if you already have an iPad--unless you really, really need a camera.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: CNETiPad2
- Description: Two cameras for FaceTime and HD video recording. The dual-core A5 chip. The same battery life. All in a thinner, lighter design. Now iPad is even more amazing. And even less like anything else! Once you pick up iPad 2, it'll be hard to put down. That's the idea behind the all-new design. It's 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter, so it feels even more comfortable in your hands. And it makes surfing the web, checking email, watching movies, and reading books so natural, you might forget there's incredible technology under your fingers. With up to nine times the graphics performance, gameplay on iPad 2 is even smoother and more realistic. And faster graphics help apps perform better - especially those with video. You'll see it when you're scrolling through your photo library, editing video with iMovie, and viewing animations in Keynote. iPad is one big, beautiful display - 9.7 inches of high-resolution photos, movies, web pages, books, and more. LED backlighting makes everything you see remarkably crisp, vivid, and bright. Even in places with low light, like an airplane. And there's no wrong way to hold iPad. It's designed to show off everything in portrait and landscape, so with every turn (even upside down), the display adjusts to fit. Because it uses a display technology called IPS (in-plane switching), it has a wide, 178° viewing angle. Hold it up to someone across the room, or share it with someone sitting next to you, and everyone gets a brilliant view. Technology is at its best when it feels completely natural, almost like there's no technology at all. That's Multi-Touch on iPad. You use your fingers to do everything, so everything you do - surfing the web, typing email, reading books, and swiping through photos - is easier and a lot more fun. How does it work? When your fingers touch the display, it senses them using electrical fields. Then it instantly transforms your taps, swipes, pinches, and flicks into lifelike actions. Just like that. With the built-in accelerometer, you can rotate iPad to portrait or landscape, or even upside down, and whatever you're watching, reading, or seeing adjusts to fit the display. And now the accelerometer, three-axis gyroscope, and compass all work together. They sense which direction iPad is heading and how it's moving. So games, maps, and other apps know your every twist, turn, tilt, and 360. It's an epic win for gaming. And it's just the beginning of better-than-ever iPad apps. iPad is built with advanced 802.11n wireless technology. It automatically finds Wi-Fi networks, which you can join with a few taps. iPad with Wi-Fi is ideal if you have a wireless high- speed Internet router in your home, or if you'll be using your iPad near a wireless hotspot - in a café or a school library, for example.
