The good: Apple's iPad 2 is dramatically thinner and boasts front and rear cameras, FaceTime video chat, a faster processor, and 3G options for both AT&T and Verizon.
The bad: The iPad's screen resolution hasn't budged, photo quality is mediocre, there's still no Adobe Flash support, and ports for HDMI, USB, and SD all require adapters.
The bottom line: The iPad 2 refines an already excellent product. Its easy-to-use interface, vast app catalog, and marathon battery life bolster Apple's claim to being the king of tablets.

Pros: Light, portable, long battery life and fits in my glove compartment
Cons: user interface does not support multi-tasking nor does it provide dedicated folders for pdf's or word documents.

Summary: So I'm in the kitchen, listening to my music library, and typing a review for the I-Pad 2. I have put a little more than 14 hours of research and 6 hours of non-stop use. I'm not gonna waste my time writing the specs for this device because if you are reading this I assume you already know the specifications, if not you can easily access the Apple website and do your own research. This review is aimed more towards the educated consumer. A consumer, who like me has spent a various hours of the night researching the I-Pad 2.
Hey honestly typing on the Ipad 2 for an extensive period of time sucks, so sorry for so many grammatical errors.
First I want to start off with the word "tablet", what is a tablet and who needs it? As an avid P.C. user, I tend to define the device as too short, too little. A underpowered, pre-mature device not ready for this age in time. The truth is, there are more people out there who need a tablet versus a laptop. Having a quad core, overclocked, power hungry P.C. I like, most other users, tend to have a bias when selecting/comparing other machines or products. As a consumer, I have been for some time looking for a laptop; with great battery life, portability and power? I first went out and purchased a mac book pro for 1199 plus some. After a couple weeks of used, I was in love. I couldn't stop showing it off and playing with it. Then I attempted to play games and yes they were playable! But I found myself running to my P.C. whenever I was gonna get serious and then I found myself using my desktop when editing videos. Yet again, I found myself running to my P.C. when it came to doing anything that involved time and effort... It was at this point that I realized that I never used more then 30-40% of my laptops purpose. I used it for; writing papers, showing off pictures and Internet browsing. So I returned it, in search for something that made sense.
I never considered a net-book useful or even worthy of my time, even less a tablet. The Motorola Xoom came out and I thought it had potential compared to last years 256MB I Pad. It offers 1GB of internal memory and 32GB of storage space, nice and 599, it not only had potential, it had my heart. Although its pre-mature operating system was a deterrance. This is the same thing that turned me away from the original IPad. Dispite the fact that I liked the original, if the didn't demand it, the product would die and I would be left with a 500 dollar piece of silicon. I needed something portable and practical and was even looking into net-books. I just feel the tablet is a little more practical, if not more useful too, because of its portability and battery life. So I took the plunge and got the Ipad 2.
First impressions didn't fall short; it was easy to set up, had a beautiful screen, and gorgeous aesthetics. While Apple boast about its 60,000 app mark, I'll tell you, it's not enough and while you can download IPhone and I-Touch apps; they are simply not the same. Face Time also seems to be problem, since it cost money for all your friends who don't have an I-Pad 2 or new Macbook. Skype on the other hand works and for free, but it is only supported in a 3.5 inch display window :/ which is hardly practical. Regardless it has some killer built-in native support for other things (e.g gmail, calendar syncing, web browsing and etc) While It doesn't support flash, it plays almost every video stream I've seen from the web. Hey, that's all I needed anyways. So I can't complain, but all you flash gamers might.
Now I found this whole "touch-typing" thing to be an exasperation. Since I am primarily using this product for note taking, its important I am as accurate as possible. Keys kept skipping and words kept missing. So I upgraded to the Apple-wireless-keyboard.. sigh. It was a well spent 69.00 dollars (cheaper models are available). I am able to control volume, brightness and music. Also makes my tablet feel more like a high end net-book. I want to talk a little bit more about writing. I bought this tablet with the intention of using google docs. Well it works, but you have use the mobile version, which has limited functionality. I tried switching to desktop editing, but it was horrendously slow and unworkable. As a matter of fact I'm writing this with google docs now. As long as you are not using bullet points or etc; you should be fine. I do notice some errors that result from a slow ping, so it's worth trying noting it happens. I could more easily recommend using apple's built in "note-taker". Its responsive, practical and free.
As far as "Air-Play" goes, simply amazing. Kind of a pain to set up though. One really has to go into every setting in I-Tunes and mark share libraries under preferences and account profile. When the set up is complete, you simply log in with your I-pad and use the same mobile user name and you are good to go. Of course you have to keep your computer running the whole time unless you have a dedicated server of some sort. Air-paly grants you access to your music, videos and HD collection. which makes that whole HDMI out thing really convenient. Granted its only 720p, Ive never noticed a huge difference between 720 and 1080p Additionally stream times are relatively quick. Just keep in mind this depends a whole lot on your network. Which bring me to my next issue of storage. I honestly feel the only thing anyone needs on tablet is, pictures and apps. Unless you are going on a long trip; a couple movies. I am content and don't think I would ever need an I-Pad with more storage. As far as 3G goes, will its just that. A three year old bandwidth solution. If you can get a tethering plan instead, I would highly recommend it, as you can also transplant GPS automatically when tethering.
oAll in all I'm really content I took the I-Pad 2 plunge. A dive I really never saw myself taking or considering. Having an android phone and P.C.; it would seem like honeycomb would have made more sense; considering the attractive specs. None the less, the I Pad 2 meets my draconian standards for 2011. making any other device look over weight and under-spec'd. While the consensus of professional reviewers have voted the camera insufficient, I could honestly say it does what I need it to do which is provide fun and entertainment. The rear HD camera is similar to the one installed on the new macbook pro models (2011 refresh). Other an that I don't plan on taking high quality photos with the device. I might do future reviews with the camera though.

Stability and Quality Over Openess and Latest Hardware
by horridgenius on March 14, 2012
Pros: - Lighweight and solid design
- Performance and battery life
- Availability of accessories
- No Siri
- Yes...there is an app for just about everything out there.Cons: - No SD or external outputs for video unless you purchase an attachment.
- Only has twitter integration (iOS 5.x). Would be nice to have Facebook integration in future updates. -
Not the greatest, but certainly good.

Pros: - Aesthetically pleasing: if you're into Apple design
- Simplistic to use
- Fast, good graphicsCons: - Personally, I found it still a little heavy
- App store: less variety, I find, than Android
- Had to buy lots of extra paraphernalia - bluetooth keyboard (which doesn't work with other bluetooth tablets/computers
- Paid word processing programsSummary: Overall, it was a rather ill-thought out purchase on my part. Luckily I managed to re-sell it on eBay for a decent price. Seller got a good bargain, considering it ...
Summary: Overall, it was a rather ill-thought out purchase on my part. Luckily I managed to re-sell it on eBay for a decent price. Seller got a good bargain, considering it wasn't used much. It's very pretty so it's easy to get sucked in, but before you buy, think about what you're going to use it for, and whether the size/weight/processor is suitable for your needs. Am much happier now with an Acer Iconia 7".

Summary: My boyfriend bought me the iPad 2 around 6 months ago mainly so I could use it for school and I love (almost) everything about it!! I'm not sure if the early reviewers didn't know aout the multitasking features or maybe it just happend with the software updates, but it does multitask VERY WELL!! I really don't see the problem with typing using just the onscreen keyboard in both landscape and portrait mode; I never have problems with keys slipping and if I misspell something it corrects it right away. I use it to take notes in class using keynote and pages (iWork apps $10 a peice in app store) and noteshelf (an app that takes handwritten notes using your finger or a stylus [i've done it both ways and stylus is the obvious winner]) they all work wonderfully and with iCloud all my projects and notes are on my iPhone 4 as well. Although I did pay for 4 apps in all I have over 100 installed and the rest were free. My only problem is when I updated to iOS 5.0.1 the rear camera stopped working and only displays a closed shutter which I read from other sites can be fixed at the apple store. All in all iPad is the best gift I've ever been given and I feel like I get more done in class b/c all my slides are right there and I can use presenter notes to add additional information, edit the slides the teacher made to highlight important things, or switch (using the 4 finger horizontal swipe multitasking feature) to go straight to noteshelf and write anything else I need. The price tag is a bit hefty, but it's worth it!!

iPad Makes Me iGlad
by AntonioSS22 on October 20, 2011
Pros: Design. Ease Of Use. Camera's Added. Thin. A5 Is REALLY Fast. Battery Life.
Cons: Camera Is Bad (Used from iPod Touch 4). Screen Resolution. OS Still rough. Need to BUY Lots of apps or else the iPad isn't very productive. Expensive!

Summary: This really is the Tablet of the Year. Apple has made this very good upgrade. Those of you who have an iPad 1 should upgrade to this or Now you can wait for the 3rd. I Really don't use the camera too much but the quality is bad. It's the Very Same camera you will find in an iPod Touch 4. The Screen Resolution could've been retina this time. But it wasn't. But the new A5 Chip gets things REALLY quick! It also gives you 10 HOURS Of battery life! No Lie. (Well, actually depends on what you're doing.) Also, the new design with reduced weight and Thinness makes this product a great Tablet To hold without problem. But If you're looking for a case, please skip the Smart Cover from Apple. There is no protection at all and It gets dirty (VERY) After a Month or so. And ONLY Buy an iPad (Or any Other Tablet) If you're gonna install LOTS Of apps. Otherwise you'll find the iPad too expensive and not very productive. The iPad itself is Very Expensive. But it was a great buy for me and I Love it.

I think I'm going to love it in time.

Pros: It's lightweight, it has a beautiful display and is very fast. I love the portability and I can access information on the net without having to get up and go to my desktop.
Cons: Word document processing. The best way is to email yourself the doc and it will store.

Best tablet out there but might get boring
by Renzadude on July 25, 2011
Pros: light, nice feel to it, long battery life, loooots of apps
Cons: if you already have other ios devices like the iphone 4 or the ipod touch 4, it might get boring , thats why I want an android tablet for a change

Maybe in a few years it'll be worth it.
by dox197 on July 18, 2011
Pros: Its got a beautiful display. Its very light, portable and the battery will last well over 7 hours.
Cons: The device is overvalued. To get it to actually be useful you have to either spend quite a bit of money in apps or jailbreak it, which might void your warranty. Even then it doesn't make you a lot more productive than having a smart phone, or an iPod for

Pretty cool!
by katydid621 on June 20, 2011
Pros: The sound is great, better than the Ipod Touch, reading books & magazines is nice, better than the Kindle or Nook.
Cons: The camera isn't wonderful, the Ipod Touch's camera is better. Not enough apps for the Ipad yet, maybe soon.
Summary: Still is good, because of the Apple name. I like how they are constintly upgrading and improving their products.

Great for travel, perfect for casual use at home.
by fenderbrooks on April 30, 2011
Pros: Open the cover and it's immediately ON. Bright, clear display, easy to use. AirPlay is really nice, and GarageBand makes it so much fun your family will fight over it.
Cons: On-creen keyboard takes some getting used to, no USB.

Summary: When the iPad first came out, I didn't get it. Why not just buy a laptop? To make a long story short, my wife bought an iPad2 and I have to admit I'm totally hooked. This is a very different device - pick it up and immediately go to work or play. A great deal of what I used to do on the laptop is done on the iPad now. Let's face it - you don't need a full "PC" to answer email, read facebook, surf the net or watch a movie. This device excels at these tasks and way more.
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MC979LL/A
- Description: Two cameras for FaceTime and HD video recording. The dual-core A5 chip. The same battery life. All in a thinner, lighter design. Now iPad is even more amazing. And even less like anything else! Once you pick up iPad 2, it'll be hard to put down. That's the idea behind the all-new design. It's 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter, so it feels even more comfortable in your hands. And it makes surfing the web, checking email, watching movies, and reading books so natural, you might forget there's incredible technology under your fingers. With up to nine times the graphics performance, gameplay on iPad 2 is even smoother and more realistic. And faster graphics help apps perform better - especially those with video. You'll see it when you're scrolling through your photo library, editing video with iMovie, and viewing animations in Keynote. iPad is one big, beautiful display - 9.7 inches of high-resolution photos, movies, web pages, books, and more. LED backlighting makes everything you see remarkably crisp, vivid, and bright. Even in places with low light, like an airplane. And there's no wrong way to hold iPad. It's designed to show off everything in portrait and landscape, so with every turn (even upside down), the display adjusts to fit. Because it uses a display technology called IPS (in-plane switching), it has a wide, 178° viewing angle. Hold it up to someone across the room, or share it with someone sitting next to you, and everyone gets a brilliant view. Technology is at its best when it feels completely natural, almost like there's no technology at all. That's Multi-Touch on iPad. You use your fingers to do everything, so everything you do - surfing the web, typing email, reading books, and swiping through photos - is easier and a lot more fun. How does it work? When your fingers touch the display, it senses them using electrical fields. Then it instantly transforms your taps, swipes, pinches, and flicks into lifelike actions. Just like that. With the built-in accelerometer, you can rotate iPad to portrait or landscape, or even upside down, and whatever you're watching, reading, or seeing adjusts to fit the display. And now the accelerometer, three-axis gyroscope, and compass all work together. They sense which direction iPad is heading and how it's moving. So games, maps, and other apps know your every twist, turn, tilt, and 360. It's an epic win for gaming. And it's just the beginning of better-than-ever iPad apps. iPad is built with advanced 802.11n wireless technology. It automatically finds Wi-Fi networks, which you can join with a few taps. iPad with Wi-Fi is ideal if you have a wireless high- speed Internet router in your home, or if you'll be using your iPad near a wireless hotspot - in a café or a school library, for example.
