The good: Apple's iPad 2 is dramatically thinner and boasts front and rear cameras, FaceTime video chat, a faster processor, and 3G options for both AT&T and Verizon.
The bad: The iPad's screen resolution hasn't budged, photo quality is mediocre, there's still no Adobe Flash support, and ports for HDMI, USB, and SD all require adapters.
The bottom line: The iPad 2 refines an already excellent product. Its easy-to-use interface, vast app catalog, and marathon battery life bolster Apple's claim to being the king of tablets.

Great Pad,(no need for me to get the Ipad3
by JBthedude on May 10, 2012
Pros: Great pad!3 of us(wife son and myself)all use it Videos appear great and photos(taken on a good camera, not its internal camera)look great.Don't know why Apple is pushing the image on the 3, when there is nothing wrong with the display on the 2.
Cons: Camera takes poor quality still pictures. Does fine with Video, but NOT stills

Summary: Love the iPad 2 another great solid quality product by Apple. Use it for everything from surfing, reading & apps to watching movies and YouTube. I knew about the flash factor so I was not disappointed. Very satisfied from this product.
P.S. I had a problem with my iPad 2 caused by me... so I went to the apple store and told them exactly what happened. They were very nice and replaced the iPad 2.
I am Very satisfied from Apple's service so far. I was never a big fan of Apple before, but now after owning various iPods, the iPad 2 and working with an iMac & Mac Book Pro (at university / work) I strongly recommend their quality products. -

Beautiful machine but not perfect. Can't put it down.
by Joey301 on March 16, 2011
Pros: Slickest thing I have ever seen, its like a bullet. Beautiful screen with wonderful graphics. The apps are fun to play with. I love the smart cover. Worked great with Netflicks. Thank god for Apple support, they helped me immediately. It's a great toy.
Cons: Tied to iTunes. Syncing with iTunes is a major pain. Apps don't always produce results that are transferable. Too difficult to get files on and off of it, and I can't plug it into just any computer to obtain files. Has an issue with the volume button. Li

Summary: I stood in line for 2 hours at the Apple store on Friday night. The iPad 2 is ok. It is beautiful. However, it has some serious deficiencies and issues. I spent 4 hours last night on the phone with Apple support trying to get it to sync with iTunes. We tried everything but I think what finally fixed it was changing USB ports. The biggest problem is that it is tied to iTunes, and there is no easy way to get stuff into the iPad. You have to have a good computer to use the iPad, it does not stand well on its own. I would prefer that it sync with the cloud instead of with iTunes. I have one more week to decide if I want to keep it. The apps are very expensive compared to the Android apps. On my Android phone, the apps are from .99 cents to 2.99, but on the iPad they are average $4.99 to $9.99 each. There may be 65,000 apps, but many of them are useless. The image manipulation apps are mostly toys and the things that I made on the iPad for second life, could not be used because of how it distorted the graphics when I transferred them to the computer. I wanted this thing so that I can do useful work while I might otherwise be sitting and waiting somewhere. Also, the iPad has limited file support, instead of supporting 7 or 8 image and music file types, it supports maybe 2 or 3. I have not been able to move icons to different home pages as the instructions indicate that i can, and having to hit the home button instead of the back button to go back to what you were doing is annoying. I don't think you can make photo albums on the iPad, but have to make them on the computer and then transfer them via iTunes, at least that is what happened with mine. Never the less, I can't put it down, there is just so much to explore.
I have to add one more con...there is not pdanet app for this tablet :(. Can't tether it to my Android phone.
Updated on Mar 16, 2011
Updated on Mar 22, 2011After almost two weeks of ownership, I would lower my rating by 1/2 star. One annoyance is the lack of a back button to everything. You can't go back to what you were previously doing. Getting files off of the iPad is really a pain. One of the worst things is that the apps can't be returned, and some of them are awful. If there is any quality control on these apps, I don't see it. With my Droid phone, I can return bad apps within 24 hours for a full refund. The Apps for the iPad are expensive. Over time, I think there is a degradation of snappiness to this thing, it does not change orientation as quickly as it did before. It is too bad you can't fix your home screen any way that you want to. As an eReader, it has been excellent, although one of my Nook books will not transfer to the iPad. On my Google email for the iPad, there is no way to close the side panel, so you always see only 1/2 of your mail. There are a lot of little annoyances like that.
Updated on Apr 10, 2011for the most part the apps are a big disappointment, they are just toys. you can spend a lot of time trying to type and reviewing apps is not at all easy. even GarageBand is disappointing because whatever you create is tied to use in itunes. it's really hard to edit what you type, such as I am doing here. -
A great and fun to use media consumption device.
by tonyqmartin on March 15, 2011
Pros: Size for viewing content, weight is carrying around, speed is nice, and ease of use is king! The Apple ecosystem is the real plus for this device, however.
Cons: No retina display. GPS antenna should be included on all models. The new smart covers don't protect the back of the device from dings and scratches, It should have come with the basic plastic cover. I don't like having to install iTunes.
Summary: Slick, small & light, nice apps. I'm a tinker, but I won't want to have to hassle with software all the time. Sometimes I just want something that ...
Summary: Slick, small & light, nice apps. I'm a tinker, but I won't want to have to hassle with software all the time. Sometimes I just want something that works. I have so many PCs and Windows laptops that it is just nice to have something that mostly works 24/7 and looks nice while doing so. I also have a Nook Color that is running the pre-release SDK of Android 3.0 HoneyComb. The Nook is great for what it is, but the iPad just brings home why people like it. I do home to bring the NC to its full glory once the final release is available, but I still think the iPad 2 will be my couch/travel machine.

Nice, not enough to buy. Got a new ipad 3G 64g on ebay.
by humbleguy on March 11, 2011
Pros: Same as original iPad with nice enhancements
Cons: Not enough to justify either upgrading or spending the additional $$$ when you can get a new original iPad for $300 less.
Summary: I wish apple would have made a more agressive upgrade, but as they always do, they held back so I did the same and kept for myself some nice change. ...
Summary: I wish apple would have made a more agressive upgrade, but as they always do, they held back so I did the same and kept for myself some nice change. I think that the next generation should bring us some "real" enhancements that make it worth spending what I saved this time around.
Apple could have done so much more and better... This is going to be an interesting year with all the other players in this market getting up to speed. I hope apple doesn't take their huge lead for granted!

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: 5430243
- Description: Two cameras for FaceTime and HD video recording. The dual-core A5 chip. The same battery life. All in a thinner, lighter design. Now iPad is even more amazing. And even less like anything else! Once you pick up iPad 2, it'll be hard to put down. That's the idea behind the all-new design. It's 33 percent thinner and up to 15 percent lighter, so it feels even more comfortable in your hands. And it makes surfing the web, checking email, watching movies, and reading books so natural, you might forget there's incredible technology under your fingers. With up to nine times the graphics performance, gameplay on iPad 2 is even smoother and more realistic. And faster graphics help apps perform better - especially those with video. You'll see it when you're scrolling through your photo library, editing video with iMovie, and viewing animations in Keynote. iPad is one big, beautiful display - 9.7 inches of high-resolution photos, movies, web pages, books, and more. LED backlighting makes everything you see remarkably crisp, vivid, and bright. Even in places with low light, like an airplane. And there's no wrong way to hold iPad. It's designed to show off everything in portrait and landscape, so with every turn (even upside down), the display adjusts to fit. Because it uses a display technology called IPS (in-plane switching), it has a wide, 178° viewing angle. Hold it up to someone across the room, or share it with someone sitting next to you, and everyone gets a brilliant view. Technology is at its best when it feels completely natural, almost like there's no technology at all. That's Multi-Touch on iPad. You use your fingers to do everything, so everything you do - surfing the web, typing email, reading books, and swiping through photos - is easier and a lot more fun. How does it work? When your fingers touch the display, it senses them using electrical fields. Then it instantly transforms your taps, swipes, pinches, and flicks into lifelike actions. Just like that. With the built-in accelerometer, you can rotate iPad to portrait or landscape, or even upside down, and whatever you're watching, reading, or seeing adjusts to fit the display. And now the accelerometer, three-axis gyroscope, and compass all work together. They sense which direction iPad is heading and how it's moving. So games, maps, and other apps know your every twist, turn, tilt, and 360. It's an epic win for gaming. And it's just the beginning of better-than-ever iPad apps. iPad is built with advanced 802.11n wireless technology. It automatically finds Wi-Fi networks, which you can join with a few taps. iPad with Wi-Fi is ideal if you have a wireless high- speed Internet router in your home, or if you'll be using your iPad near a wireless hotspot - in a café or a school library, for example.
