The good: In an act of aggressive tech convergence, Apple has consolidated your Netbook, e-reader, gaming device, photo frame, and iPod into an elegant, affordable supergadget. Features such as Bluetooth, 802.11n Wi-Fi, movie rentals, 10 hours of battery life, optional 3G wireless, and the most-celebrated App Store on the planet have us pretty worked up.
The bad: The iPad's large size is as much a hindrance as it is an advantage. As a jack-of-all-trades and a master of few, the iPad can't entirely mimic many of the specialized products it seeks to replace. The iPad's lack of front or rear cameras, Flash support, and integrated HD video output already have us pining for next year's model.
The bottom line: The Apple iPad is the first affordable tablet computer worth owning, but it won't (yet) replace your laptop.

Too much money for what it doesn't do.
by L109 on February 12, 2011
Pros: It is great for play Angry Birds, visiting websites that don't stream apple-arch video, and apple-appistic media content. It is great if you are made of money and can purchase everything that you already own from and only from Apple.
Cons: It leaves good paying customers incapable of using the most common, free video application available, i.e. Adobe Flash. If battery life and security are really what Apple feels is most important to its customers, then give them the option to choose.
Summary: I'm sorry but if you are not allowed to use this potentially fantastic video platform to watch the most common format for videos, then it is over priced. You ...
Summary: I'm sorry but if you are not allowed to use this potentially fantastic video platform to watch the most common format for videos, then it is over priced. You can't even watch C-span! That just seems as undemocratic as any totalitarian, oligarchical, one-man-rules-all dictatorship. There are vast archives of rich, but free content that should be available, but Apple says NO.

Fun Fun Fun
by hudder23 on January 28, 2011
Pros: Battery Life 10 hrs straight! Easy to setup and use, Super fast startup/lots of fun surfing, Games, apps apps and more apps, e-reader is great
Cons: No Multi-tasking, external speakers...meh, Flash not supported. Also will not expand on text or photo captions online newspaper. Wireless print capability not quite there yet. Minor annoyances you find when surfing.

Summary: as above, I really enjoy the i-Pad for surfing and touchscreen games...Angry Birds anyone? You could search the app store for a year and still find something interesting. Would recommend to anyone, it's a ton of fun to play with even with the negatives. Buy a photo transfer adapter so you just plug your SD card into it and it loads all photos from the card to the iPad.

Summary: Bought the iPad out of curiousity & mobile alternative to my laptop for checking mail and websurfing. It's been a wonderful experience diving into the touch screen web surfing, messaging and app nirvana. The missing flash support is the only major downside to date, after eight months of fun use. Hopefully swpe will come soon too, but maybe asking for that is just being greedy. Whatever the case, all other tablets have their Everest!

Apple products just get worse and worse.
by PillageU on December 1, 2010
Pros: Great Battery Life, Now has multi-tasking, Wide variety of Apps.
Cons: Just too many darn people worshiping this company. ONLY .258 gb of RAM, only ONE ghz processor. I'm sorry but what part of this device is worth $650? NO FLASH, Too Proprietary, No camera, no USB, no SD Card slot, Bulky, Just an iPod Touch!
Summary: My diagnosis? Stop buying from this company and get real. Its not magic. It's not even next-generation. Apple has been lying to it's consumers from the start of ...
Summary: My diagnosis? Stop buying from this company and get real. Its not magic. It's not even next-generation. Apple has been lying to it's consumers from the start of the company. If you are thinking about getting this product, THINK SOME MORE! There are WAY better products out there. HP's Slate 500 is an actually good product and doesn't posses "Magical Powers" like what Apple's trying to lie to you about. And yes, I am an Apple-Hater! And I'm proud of it.

Another paradigm shift product from Apple
by Michael Stringer on November 12, 2010
Pros: Fantastic TV, movie and games platform. However, the most significant feature is that it turns the Internet into a book. I can read a full-page A4 PDF document, which with services like Dropbox, make it a serious business tool for meetings.
Cons: No USB interface, which makes connection to other devices limited. Too heavy and screen too bright for serious use as a digital book platform.
Summary: I bought the iPad to experiment with using it as a replacement for carrying thick folders of documents into meetings. The user interface makes this option practical, as I can ...
Summary: I bought the iPad to experiment with using it as a replacement for carrying thick folders of documents into meetings. The user interface makes this option practical, as I can read an A4 page without scrolling. However the lack of easy switching between multiple open documents, and the need to explicitly download documents into it from services like Dropbox means that it is not quite working yet for this context. However the iPad provides a useful 3rd screen on which to display a document while editing another document, which reduces the amount of printing I do.
My other purpose for the iPad was to read Internet content in a more casual setting like a dinner table or café couch. In this it excels. It turns the Internet into a book, and help us make one more step in the move away from paper documents.
Finally, I was impressed with the iPad as a platform to watch TV and movies, and for games. It excels in this too buy creating a more intimate experience which is different and just as worthwhile as the cinema-style experience of large-screen TVs.
I found reading books and the Internet for long periods of time hurt my eyes due to the brightness of backlit LCD. The lack of a USB interface was also irritating, as it limits device connection options.
Some find being tied to the iTunes environment irritating, but my memories of time wasted connecting devices to more open services that never quite worked correctly are too strong. I would prefer a reliable integration over flexibility.
Overall, thinking that the iPad is a replacement for netbooks or notebooks or iPhones misunderstands the device. It makes its own niche of functionality, and it does those things exceedingly well. -
Amazing Grace!! - No Kidding, this is really fantastic
by jre401k on August 28, 2010
Pros: Quality, apps galore, speed, content, ease of use, what more could you want?
Cons: File management is awkward
No multitasking
No Adobe Flash
Poor, if any Java App support
No decent password managers out there, lots of gizmos and gadgets, but mostly fluff!
Backup and transfer capabilities are very slow.Summary: For most work applications, the iPad is all I will need, a wirless keyboard and mouse would be cool. but why spoil the fun? For heavy document editing and spreadsheet ...
Summary: For most work applications, the iPad is all I will need, a wirless keyboard and mouse would be cool. but why spoil the fun? For heavy document editing and spreadsheet use go to a computer with a full size screen and keyboard. For power application users, iPad simpliy is not sufficient.
For everything else, other than flash player viewing, iPad is fantastic!
The 3g connection is pretty good so anytime I am outside of my wireless network, it is hard to beat for $15 per month. -
This iPad has surpassed my expectations.
by sensualeye on July 12, 2010
Pros: Portability, battery life, constantly improving apps and a device that impresses clients(I'm a photographer).
Cons: Lack of multi-tasking. Looking forward to the iPad's iOS4.

You need to use it to appreciate it.
by MeInTheNewWorld on June 13, 2010
Pros: Very nice display, multitouch is great, reasonable price, size and weight, A4 processor, battery life
Cons: Wifi range is not too good for me. Took a while to get used to on screen keyboard.

Summary: To start I want to say that when I first saw this product I saw it was completely useless but once I used one for a while it starts to make sense. The whole screen is very high quality and has fantastic viewing angles and because it is so big it is great to view web pages and watch video. Its like an iphone but just does everything that much quicker and many tasks better. Its also very comfortable to hold, the black bezel provides a nice place to have your fingers placed and overall it feels like you can just pick it up and be comfortable with it. One thing that I didn't like too much and took a long while to adapt to was the on screen keyboard, its not the worse thing to type on but it feels weird at times because you naturally look down to see if you have hit the key as it has no feedback. After a week with it I got faster at typing and didn't look at it as much as before. This device may seem useless to many people as they have an ipod, an iphone and a mac but if you have some extra money this will fit nicely into the group. Its conveneit and does tasks fast and effeciently but its not a must have item.

Apple Ipad rocks and saves you $723.12 per year
by onceyougomac101 on April 18, 2010
Pros: Saves you money. Great crisp clear screen. Very fast system. Makes the Iphone/ipod look like small ants. Easy future system upgrades.
Cons: Initial cost. Slightly higher priced apps.

Summary: If you liked the Iphone you will love the Ipad. A lot of people joke about the name, but I think its perfect. Apple is very smart to keep the "I" in their products and Itablet is boring, Iscreen, Inotebook, III doesnt work. ha Listen this product is very futuristic and will only improve in time. The initial price is sort of steep in today's economy, but when you compare to the other contenders there is no comparison. I hate the buggy FLASH so I dont miss that feature. You won't need flash because the best of the best apps are better than the actual website and smart websites are learning fast to change the stupid flash to html 5 etc. If you want a camera its not on this years model. Perhaps next year, but you can clip on a mini cam like i did. (hint).
Money saving advise. Cancel your iphone/other smartphone. Do the math people. I cancelled my smartphone (contract expired). On this ipad i can:
1)Listen to my ipod music via bluetooth in my car. (saves on cd purchase) Thanks Itunes
2) Paid 6.99 for Beejive and now for life i IM all my peeps for free with no monthly texting charges ($20 savings/mo)
3) I downloaded SKYPE. I pay $30/year (YES YEAR) and i can call anywhere in the USA no more monthly fees and the call quality is crystal clear. You even get your own personal local area code phone # so people can call you or when you call people your local area code comes up. It's dependent on WIFI and 3G of course, but i've yet to have this be an issue since att gives you unlimited data for $30/mo and free wifi att sights. In my car i use skype phone via bluetooth also saving time, money and handsfree for safety (I took the OPRAH pledge not to drive and handuse the phone or text while driving).
4) there are other apps like icall and truphone so you decide which is best.
Total Savings: Before: $92.75 NOW: $29.99 (data plan unlimited) + $2.50 skype/mo breakdown = $32.49/mo
Difference? Top of the line IPAD/apple product and a monthly savings of $60.26 or $723.12 (oh wait this pays for the IPAD plus $200 in your pocket) hum..

- Part number: MB293LL/A
- Description: A large, high-resolution LED-backlit IPS display. An incredibly responsive Multi-Touch screen. And an amazingly powerful Apple-designed chip. All in a design that's thin and light enough to take anywhere. iPad isn't just the best device of its kind. It's a whole new kind of device. The high-resolution, 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS display on iPad is remarkably crisp and vivid. Which makes it perfect for web browsing, watching movies, or viewing photos. With iPad, there is no up or down. It's designed to show off your content in portrait or landscape orientation with every turn. And because it uses a display technology called IPS (in-plane switching), it has a wide, 178° viewing angle. So you can hold it almost any way you want and still get a brilliant picture, with excellent color and contrast. The Multi-Touch screen on iPad is based on the same revolutionary technology on iPhone. But the technology has been completely reengineered for the larger iPad surface, making it extremely precise and responsive. So whether you're zooming in on a map, flicking through your photos, or deleting an email, iPad responds with incredible accuracy. And it does just what you want it to. If you want to extend your network coverage further, choose iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G and sign up for access to 3G data service. iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G offers super fast data speeds over 3G cellular networks around the world. It's perfect when you're out and about with no access to a Wi-Fi network, because you can still get a fast connection for surfing the web, sending and receiving email, or getting directions. Since iPad seamlessly switches between 3G and even faster Wi-Fi, you always get the best connection available.
