Apple iPad (4th generation) price range: $489.99 - $499.00

The good: The newest iPad's faster A6X processor adds extra system speed and graphics power. Improved worldwide cellular compatibility makes the LTE model a more appealing proposition. And the iOS App Store remains best in class, with the widest selection.
The bad: The fourth-gen iPad is otherwise identical to its recent predecessor -- same size, weight, and Retina screen. It's heavy to hold in one hand, and most older accessories won't work without investing in a pricey Lightning adapter.
The bottom line: The latest iPad adds several tweaks and improvements to secure its position at the top of the tablet heap. It's better all around, but third-gen owners need not apply.

Summary: I don't understand the reviews that say it came out early or that the ipad2 is a better deal. The ipad is a known quantity at this point, you either like Apple products and iOS or you don't. If you don't like these things, you won't like the ipad and won't find it a good buy.
However, if you like Apple and iOS, this is clearly the best iPad yet. Like with any computer, you want to get the best hardware available, because the software will eventually evolve to make the hardware obsolete. The problem with the iPad 3 was that it upgraded the graphics to a retina display (which was very nice!) but the processing power was essentially unchanged from the non-retina iPad. With this fourth gen iPad, the hardware capabilities are much better and it is setup to be able to handle several iOS updates and not fall behind. The ipad 2 is not going to be able to do that. I guarantee that the next version of iOS will run poorly on my wife's iPad 2 because the hardware will be that far behind.5 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Despite the above negative points, there's no doubt we're once again looking at a top tablet once again. Apple's greatest strength has always been fusing together some headline features with an OS that just works, and will appeal to the largest amount of people.

Arguably still the best of the best of the best
by pssmeyers on December 24, 2012
Pros: Silky smooth, wonderful display, fast, secure, easy to use
Cons: Like anything else from Apple, it's not what you want, it's what Apple wants for you. If you can't accept that, don't buy an iPad.

If you are not very computer savvy and don't like spending time fiddling and figuring out how do do stuff, then this is the right tablet for you to buy.
If you like lots of choices, like customizing your devices, and/or want the latest and greatest of everything, even if it doesn't work very well yet, then do your self a favor and buy an Android tablet.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Apple honestly surprised a lot of people (including me) when they "secretly" announced this iPad. I watched the whole conference/presentation when they announced the iPad Mini but didn't even hear/see this the whole presentation. It's honestly the same exact thing as the 3rd gen iPad other than the minor processor upgrade and Lightning charging port. Also, on a side note, the Lightning charging port is honestly (in my opinion) straight bs. I understand Apple wants to be their own and NOT use Micro USB but still it was a terrible idea.
Overall, it's roughly the same exact thing as the iPad 3rd gen with minor upgrades like always (other than the 1st gen iPad to the 2nd gen iPad).2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MD513LL/A
- Description: Pick up the iPad with Retina display and suddenly, it's clear. You're actually touching your photos, reading a book, playing the piano. Nothing comes between you and what you love. That's because the fundamental elements of iPad - the display, the processor, the cameras, the wireless connection - all work together to create the best possible experience. And they make iPad capable of so much more than you ever imagined. The A6X chip inside iPad is the most powerful mobile chip yet. It delivers up to twice the CPU and graphics performance of the A5X chip. And it makes iPad feel faster and even more responsive. Apps launch instantly and run smoothly. Graphics-intensive games are fluid and lifelike on the gorgeous Retina display. And with improved image signal processing built into the A6X chip, the photos and videos you take with the 5-megapixel iSight camera look sharper and even more Retina worthy. FaceTime on iPad puts you face-to-face - even when you're miles apart. You can make a video call over Wi-Fi, so if you're out and about, your friends and family are never out of the loop. And now with the FaceTime HD camera, everyone can get an even better view of you and what's around you. You can also use it for taking self-portraits or recording 720p HD video. iPad is sleek, beautiful, and engineered to handle life on the go - thanks in large part to the aluminum unibody. By consolidating many parts into one, everything becomes less complex and far more precise. The result is an iPad that's thin, light, and durable enough for the ins and outs of everyday life. The Wi-Fi capabilities built into iPad keep you connected faster than ever - up to twice as fast as any previous-generation iPad. With dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) 802.11n Wi-Fi and support for channel bonding, download speeds can reach up to 150 Mbps. Translation: many of the things you do every day may start to feel a whole lot faster.
