The good: Apple's new iPad includes a stunning new screen, matched by a quad-core graphic processor and the world's largest app and media store to feed it content. There's a proper 5-megapixel rear camera now, with 1080p recording quality. Optional 4G data from AT&T and Verizon afford an uncompromising mobile experience.
The bad: The new iPad is slightly heavier than last year's model; apps and movies optimized for the screen might take up more space; and ports for HDMI, USB, and SD require adapters.
The bottom line: With a host of improvements--faster graphics, 4G wireless options, a better camera, and a gorgeous high-res screen--the latest iPad cements its position at the head of the tablet pack.

Summary: As a medical student I bought the iPad as a study tool. Having the internet constantly at your fingertips, coupled with the vast array of powerful apps and virtually endless battery life makes for a very impressive device. Sure, games are fun on occasion, but I am more surprised how much use I get out of this as a productivity tool. I barely ever use my laptop anymore. The silence, speed, display and complete independence from any power source for a whole day make the iPad a pretty unbeatable combination.
I am currently holding all of my books, including my textbooks in my hand, all reference tools/journals that I could possibly need, through the iWork apps a very powerful productivity suite, the Internet, a wonderful email program and through messages an easy and free text messaging application. All of this weighing less than a pound and a half, and instantly available without booting anything up all day long. I think that's pretty cool!1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Not worth upgrading from iPad 2
by veajt00 on March 17, 2012
Pros: Retains nearly all of what made the iPad 2 great - improved screen?
Cons: Larger files sizes (no larger storage options), slightly heavier & thicker

Summary: I was at Best Buy last night checking out the new iPad, and felt compelled to write a review regarding the "resolutionary" new screen. I had a VERY hard time telling which iPad was new iPad 3 - I even had to ask a sales rep to be sure. Best Buy had the iPad 2 set up next to the iPad 3 so everyone could see the "huge" improvement, and I wasn't the only one that was confused. Honestly, I'm amazed that in every review I've read about the new iPad, the reviewers are falling all over themselves to praise this new screen, and I was really unimpressed - relative the new current iPad 2.
I currently own a 64GB iPad 2 and love it - so I would not hesitate to recommend the new iPad to anyone looking for their first tablet (since Apple maintained existing pricing & features), but I just can't justify an upgrade after seeing the new iPad. And I went into Best Buy on the fence about upgrading - it would have been easy too... Best Buy was sold out of 32GB, but had PLENTY of new iPad 3's in 16 and 64 GB', both carriers, colors & wifi/4G - and this was at 8pm at night.
One last thought - I think Apple missed an opportunity upgrading storage. As mentioned, I have a 64 GB iPad 2 and the thing is full. I keep no movies on it (I use a 500GB Seagate GoFlex Traveler for that), and limit the amount of music, music videos, photos and apps to fit everything I want. With app file sizes getting bigger thanks to the new display, I'm going to have even bigger issues, and I think a lot more people will as well...1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

I own the 4th generation iPad 64 gig white!
by burtnb on April 3, 2013
Pros: Everything! Beautiful, sleek, operates nearly flawlessly, great camera, and if you can find the app, it will do anything you want.
Cons: Apple needs to - must - give us a better way to select, copy, and edit text! The idea is great but fingers and text are not a good marriage. Apple, give us edit key - arrows! This is the only thing Microsoft does better.

Summary: If you want a tablet don't waste your time! Go to the king and get your iPad BUT do NOT get less memory than 64 gig (I'd spent the extra hundred and go with 128 if I were buying now). This is the most amazing piece of technology I have ever, ever owned! I turn on my PC for one reason only - to back up my iPad. It goes everywhere I go. I "tried" to use a Surface tablet the other day and found it almost worthless. Sorry Microsoft! Windows 8 is like an old three-speed bike.

And that's the little things that make the iPad more a TOY than a practical, working machine. My university portal will not load on safari since it's flash-based. I cannot upload my files or any class work to blackboard, etc. I bought this gorgeous keyboard case, but text editing still lacks greatly when compared to a full fledged operating system.
For anybody out there wanting to buy a TABLET for consumption (because that's what they are), don't overspend with an iPad. The google nexus 7 or any other cheaper tablet will do the trick. This is going to be my last iPad. -
Good looking, Apple, but pretty useless
by Hkwan410 on October 18, 2012
Pros: Need to ask? Apple logo on it of course, unrivaled Retina display.
Cons: - iOS, boring updates everytime
- Lots of games, but I sometimes wanted to work on it, but somehow those office suites are being left behind

Summary: To be perfectly honest, I sold this for ASUS TF700. Why? TF700 is suffering from Android issues, like little sluggishness and drain RAM quite quickly, but for me this is not the end of the world. The usefulness of TF700 will never be rivaled by iPad.
iOS, on the other hand, I updated it everytime Apple issued an iOS update, but I never saw a significant bump on nearly anything. Like the latest update to iOS 6, I cannot stream Full HD video on YT mobile site anymore, this just defeats the point of buying a Retina device. Development on Office suits for iPad seems stopped and I would like to know if those developers are still in.
I have left the iOS-toys behind and I don't think I will ever return, no matter what. -
Truly the best tablet
by KRogers182 on September 20, 2012
Pros: Apart from a few key things, Apple to tablets better than anyone else. The overall appearance and user experience is up to Apple's high standards - plus the main benefits such as the display, battery life, speed etc etc
Cons: For your average consumer this would be the price. The iPad is the most expensive tablet, however as you can see the sales speak for themself so the pros clearly outweigh the cons

Pros: The best screen I have ever seen
The apps available for the iPad are amazing.
Beautiful design.
You won't regret buying this
Also, it changes your life
improves your life
andmempowers you to do things that you couldn't have even imagined to do.Cons: I wish there were some innovative cool ways to get some extra storage on this device without having to put an ugly micro SD slot on such a beautiful device. Not a big problem.
I wish charging time could be faster.Summary: I wonder how iPad only got 70 percent market share. This device is simply superior to other tablets. This, is the future of computing.

Many manufacturers are coming out with 7 inch tablets to compete with the iPad. I've used tried using many of them. And it it turns out that these devices are created not to improve people's lives like iPads. They are created instead to differentiate themselves from the iPad so that people can justify buying them. People are kinda tricked into buying those crappy 7 inch tablets because they are lightweight yet and they have a lot of screen estate. But this is my advice to all 7 inch tablet users: go and buy a good smartphone if you have the money to buy a 7 inch tablet. I mean, it's just meaningless having a 7 inch screen! I tell ya, the screen is not as big or spacious as you might have thought. What you get is a blown up smartphone experience. And it's not as portable as a smartphone. You can't keep it in your pocket. Furthermore, they are not even close to the real tablet experience you get on a iPad. They are truly crappy.
On the other hand, the experience on the iPad is just phenomenal. May sound like hyperbole but I am being very honest. Yes, it's a bit too heavy to carry in your hand, but by sacrificing some of the 'portability' , what you get in return is an unprecedented spacious engaging experience with desktop class apps tha are just tailor made for the iPad. And when the apps are optimised for the Retina display, you will be blown away. Apple has clearly made the right choice of empowering developers to create awesome apps by adopting a larger screen rather than providing users with dumbed down blown up version of smartphone experience just for the sake of mobility, in today's world where so many people own smartphones, which can't be even compared to tablets in terms of mobility. Believe you will won't to keep using your iPad wherever you are.
I would like to thank apple for making such an extraordinary product. There is no other product in the market which provides a user with a seamless, integrated and incredibly amazing experience from buying, packaging, software, hardware, design, applications and just about everything.
It requires a tremendous amount of effort to bring great technology in the hands of the customers in such a user friendly and beautiful way. The iPad 3 is a great feat of engineering as well. I really appreciate Apple for their efforts. Excellent work, really. I've never felt grateful towards a product before. -

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MC705LL/A
- Description: Pick up the iPad and suddenly, it's clear. You're actually touching your photos, reading a book, playing the piano. Nothing comes between you and what you love. To make that hands-on experience even better, they made the fundamental elements of iPad better - the display, the camera, the wireless connection. All of which makes the third-generation iPad capable of so much more than you ever imagined. Everything you do with iPad, you do through its large, beautiful display. And when the display is better, the entire iPad experience is better. The Retina display on the iPad features a 2048-by-1536 resolution, 44-percent greater color saturation, and an astounding 3.1-million pixels - in the same 9.7-inch space. That's four times the number of pixels in iPad and a million more than an HDTV. Those pixels are so close together, your eyes can't discern individual ones at a normal viewing distance. When you can't see the pixels, you see the whole picture. Or article. Or game. In ways you never could before.
