The good: Apple's new iPad includes a stunning new screen, matched by a quad-core graphic processor and the world's largest app and media store to feed it content. There's a proper 5-megapixel rear camera now, with 1080p recording quality. Optional 4G data from AT&T and Verizon afford an uncompromising mobile experience.
The bad: The new iPad is slightly heavier than last year's model; apps and movies optimized for the screen might take up more space; and ports for HDMI, USB, and SD require adapters.
The bottom line: With a host of improvements--faster graphics, 4G wireless options, a better camera, and a gorgeous high-res screen--the latest iPad cements its position at the head of the tablet pack.

If you have an IPAD 2 - forget this.
by crunchingnumber on March 16, 2012
Pros: Better display - similar to Samsung AMOLED
Cons: Apps like docstogo etc cannot handle the resolution rendering them useless. If you're a straight forward business user, save yourself the trouble. I'm less and less inclined with Apple's closed model, but you have to admire the business model.
Summary: I think that the new IPAD is incremental at best, which is why they could not even call it a 2S, let alone an IPAD 3. There is no way ...
Summary: I think that the new IPAD is incremental at best, which is why they could not even call it a 2S, let alone an IPAD 3. There is no way it is worth upgrading from the IPAD 2, particularly with the app screen compatibility issues (and soon people will start writing about them).
I went to a 24hour Walmart at 10:00am (10 hours after release by Walmart) and had to convince the sales staff that they might actually have the new IPAD as advertised for the 24 hour stores. They had crudely posted 8x11" print taped to a display announcing the new IPAD, next to an equally sad looking display housing a single older IPAD 2. When they finally got enough people and energy together to look at what had been delivered the day before, they eventually produced a 16GB white wifi IPAD for $499. They then had to dig through inventory notes to confirm that this was indeed a new IPAD. (seriously where does Walmart get these electronics genius' from).
In any event I completed the purchase with eager anticipation at comparing screen display and speed. Within 5 minutes I realized it was more apple hype. I'm an apple fan but become less and less enthusiastic as they try to exert more control. The screen was better, but certainly not worth replacing my IPAD2. Neither speed nor the screen could justify that. The real kicker was trying to use docstogo where the screen resolution could not be handled and the cursor and text was just all over the place.
I immediately boxed it back up and returned it, all within an hour of purchase. I won't be going back. BTW this purchase was actually for someone else and I thought I would get the latest and greatest. I then ordered a refurb IPAD 2 and saved a bunch :). For my own uses, it confirms that I will review some of the android offerings, particularly the AT&T samsung Galaxy Note 'Phablet' which at least whilst not being an ideal tablet or perhaps an ideal phone, offers something new for me to play with. It also gives me a chance to look more closely at the Android platform and the more open approach for my choices as to how I do the things I want to do with it. At least with Android I can be the final approver of an app I want to put on it as opposed to the app store. The apple jail break community and developers are great but maybe Apple would just learn that they can;t do everything better. Reminds me of IBM's micro channel architecture and OS/2. Ask IBM how that worked out.3 out of 21 users found this user opinion helpful.

DONT BUY an ipad. Its simple and heres why.

Pros: great support

not a hotspot creation device
cant play flash
poor camera resolution (ipad2)
poor navigation interface
best apps have to buy
expensive and overpriced

THE CENTRE HARDWARE BUTTON: What is it with these guys. Firstly having to navigate with a centre button is dumb and people dont complain? Ipads navigation is clunky, the unit is heavy, the units are overpriced perhaps to pay for their slick marketing campaigns.
Still got the centre home button! what are these idiots thinking. I have an ipad 2 and hate it. Why do i want a hardware button to press on the ipad device to close apps. Its clunky, do they realise people use more than one application at once so having to shrink the app using this centre button is a pain. Android on the other hand is screen software driven. I have both devices and Android is a much better navigation system by far, the unit is much lighter, the camera is far superior (than the ipad 2).
Apple are very smart in that they conveniently make devices where you have to buy another product. the camera on the ipad was made poor so perhaps youd have to buy an iphone. The imovie is limited ONLY to videos taken on the ipad or iphone. Why? you cant edit any videos that have come from other devices. The ipad cannot be turned into a hotspot like the iphone has in capability. The iphone and ipad have poor navigation and are heavy, "old" looking and just .. in my books great, stable systems but i see the arrogance of Apple like Blackberry had, BB thought they were making the best phones and went about not listening to people and look at that market share for Blackberry phones now.
In my books Samsung with its different sizes in tablets make a much better product. The bright screen is far superior to look at for both ipad and phones. The Apple product is about hype, buzz, slick advertising .. yea the support is GREAT, second to none. You can ring any Apple service in UK, US and Australia for example and the tech guys are patient ... but having had a computer crash and left with the Apple Ipad 2 as a standby device to use .. i quickly became sick of the devices cumbersome navigation. Get rid of that damn home button Apple please! That home button goes ...then your device is buggered! why Apple want to do this is anyones guess.
My verdict is I would buy a Samsung Phone and tablet as my next choice. The ipad i have found being on the road has a lot of short comings. Prices are 30% cheaper as well and the Samsung has worldwide warranty support. Android market has more free apps than the istore.
As i am moving a tablet to Android im looking at a Samsung Note as well given the Iphone 4s is SO SO unattractive, old, heavy, and yes!! that DAMN CENTRE HARDWARE HOME BUTTON!!! WHICH NO ONE ONLINE SEEMS TO WANT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT1 out of 18 users found this user opinion helpful.
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MC705LL/A
- Description: Pick up the iPad and suddenly, it's clear. You're actually touching your photos, reading a book, playing the piano. Nothing comes between you and what you love. To make that hands-on experience even better, they made the fundamental elements of iPad better - the display, the camera, the wireless connection. All of which makes the third-generation iPad capable of so much more than you ever imagined. Everything you do with iPad, you do through its large, beautiful display. And when the display is better, the entire iPad experience is better. The Retina display on the iPad features a 2048-by-1536 resolution, 44-percent greater color saturation, and an astounding 3.1-million pixels - in the same 9.7-inch space. That's four times the number of pixels in iPad and a million more than an HDTV. Those pixels are so close together, your eyes can't discern individual ones at a normal viewing distance. When you can't see the pixels, you see the whole picture. Or article. Or game. In ways you never could before.
