The good: Apple's new iPad includes a stunning new screen, matched by a quad-core graphic processor and the world's largest app and media store to feed it content. There's a proper 5-megapixel rear camera now, with 1080p recording quality. Optional 4G data from AT&T and Verizon afford an uncompromising mobile experience.
The bad: The new iPad is slightly heavier than last year's model; apps and movies optimized for the screen might take up more space; and ports for HDMI, USB, and SD require adapters.
The bottom line: With a host of improvements--faster graphics, 4G wireless options, a better camera, and a gorgeous high-res screen--the latest iPad cements its position at the head of the tablet pack.

Verry disappointed to thoroughly impressed
by miketafc on March 18, 2012
Pros: Excellent graphics especially on games. Great camera and video. Much faster download speeds and Internet speeds with less eyrstrain when reading.
Dictation is much improved and makes writing articles a breeze.Cons: Wish Apple would figure out a way to reformat the page after you increase the font size.

Summary: Received my New IPAD 32G WIFI only right on time on March 16 and promptly unboxed it and restored my latest IPAD 2 backup. My anticipation was excited by the many articles I've read claiming that the new display is everything from your first experience seeing HDTV to a blind man getting sight.
Since I had shelled out the cash for the new one and promised a family pass down for the old I was out of pocket about $1200. So you can imagine my disappointment when I turned it on and saw nothing dramatically different from the IPAD 2. OK let's get them both out and compare side by side. More disappointment as there seems to be almost no difference in the visuals. My first taught was they shipped me an IPAD 2 by mistake. Weight, thickness, larger camera and a serial number check proved it was definitely a 3rd generation tablet.
I have now had it for more than 24 hrs and can positively report I have gone from totally disappointed to thoroughly impressed.
Why:
Visuals from a distance of about 3 ft. when I made my comparison looked about the same but when you put It on your lap to view it at a more normal distance the display starts to pop and everything from text to pictures to movies look phenomenal.
The camera is finally capable of taking excellent photographs and the HD video is with anti shake is very high quality. Bringing photos up in IPhoto makes them look more like a printed glossy and very 3D like.
Internet sites load very quickly and seem more crisp especially when you blow the size up or view a video full screen. Download speeds tested out about 50% higher than the 2 and so did the links.
My favorite racing game "Real Racing HD" issued an update to run on the new iPad screen and so I tried it out. WOW first off the cars in the garage now have a life like appearance. The game itself played very smooth at very fast speeds and the visuals were outstanding. Even games that have not been updated yet played and looked much better.
I read a lot and it was important to me that the books and online articles would provide a better experience and less eye stain than the iPad 2. Too early to tell about the eye strain but the text on iBooks was noticeably better and pages turned smoothly. The kindle app text was also better but pages were jerky and did not turn properly. Checked out flip boards new updated app and again the articles were all eye catching and pictures were outstanding to look at.
So now I've gone from very disappointed to thoroughly impressed and glad to hand over my iPad 2.13 out of 13 users found this user opinion helpful.

Eye Catching
by medhatbear on March 16, 2012
Pros: Beautiful screen. Increased graphics and processing power really adds to the experience. Photos from camera are surprisingly good. Comes even closer to being a laptop replacement.
Cons: Still would like to see ability to add a flash card......
Summary: I had the first generation iPad so this was quite a change in my experience. I am not sure an owner of an iPad 2 would appreciate the improvements.

No Flash
Face Time only over Wifi
Poor stereo separation without headphones

Summary: A great new product...very exciting. Nice improvements...but they didn't go far enough. There are some obvious missing features that have been included in their competitors tablets for more than a year. Apple doesn't follow, they lead - always with the most popular product that excels in at least one area, but never all areas. You'll be happy this improved tablet maintains the same pricing structure as the old one. AND Apple has a buy back / recycle program that will help keep used iPad prices from tumbling too far.

Phenomenal. The retina display is extraordinary.
by C5fltengineer on March 17, 2012
Pros: Retina display, dictation (works for me), battery life, styling and construction, camera, and ergonomics (the weight is half of my net book).
Cons: After extensive use, I really have no cons specific to the actual iPad itself. I've heard the complaints about the speaker and I find for my use it's excellent (listening to Pandora right now and it sounds great no matter what level I have it on).
Summary: I purchased a black 16 GB Wi-Fi only model in the early morning at Walmart. in the past I have owned two iPods over the years but this is my ...
Summary: I purchased a black 16 GB Wi-Fi only model in the early morning at Walmart. in the past I have owned two iPods over the years but this is my first iOS device and I can say as a non-Apple extremist, and I don't mean that in a bad way, and extensive surfer this iPad meets my needs in an extraordinary manner. my beef has always been with iTunes and the manner in which Apple conducts itself, but their products are exquisitely designed and built and are very intuitive. I purchased an iPod nano for my 70 year old father and he grooves on it like crazy and I am sure when I purchase a new iPad for both him and my mother that they will both get it and utilize it far more than their laptops or desktop. This review is for those who have never owned Apple products or maybe one Apple product and have never owned an iPad I find the weight is not a distraction at all and the screen is
phenomenal. It is phenomenal especially when watching HD content or zooming in on text. I have zoomed in on
webpages ,text and Word documents and have been amazed that the text remains crisp to their maximum extents. I love the functionality of swiping between applications I love the fact that I can make the text big or small literally by pinching my fingers I have no problems navigating between different applications different parts of the webpage. So far all of the webpages that I frequent to include job websites and news organizations are handled quite easily by the ipad. I frequent CNN and I do not feel, for my purposes, that I need that app for that, however
when it comes to FOXNews and MSNBC I find that I have to use an app for those websites. I have done 90% of this review using dictation and with a few exceptions it has done extremely well. One caveat to using dictation is that I sort of sound like either Stephen Hawkings at times or a really stupid robot. I have read many reviews about apps for the iPad and I find that most of the positive and negative reviews can be boiled down to personal preference and not something so fantastic or so bad about the individual app itself. I am still learning to type using the split keyboard, which I like very much, and I am certain that I will get the hang of this and not go back to my PC for anything other than very in-depth work like writing papers or running engineering programs. it is readily apparent that iOS is a very streamlined operating system because of how fast I can switch between each of the apps and how fast webpages load and just the general behavior of the operating system. I have a 10 MB upload Internet service provider and I am using Wi-Fi in the nether regions of my house and yet things load smoothly
and quickly and videos perform phenomenally well to include YouTube. the very first HD video that I watched on
YouTube using the YouTube app was the trailer for the hobbit. what can I say? the images were crisp, crisper than my 1080 P HD television and way more crisp than anything I have ever seen on a computer. my only hesitation with this model of iPad is that I am now thinking that I need 32 GB of storage just to absorb the higher
memory apps for the retina display and the HD movies I may download from time to time. I originally wanted a white 16 GB but all Walmart had was a black one and now I have come to really enjoy the styling so much that I think I will stick with the black, but that is a matter of personal preference. From all of the anecdotal evidence I have read in reviews on the Internet, I will be investing in a nice silicone case ASAP. as a devout gamer and owner of a pS3, I am amazed at the games on the new iPad (they are very fast the graphics are outstanding and
smooth). if you are the kind of person that enjoys listening to music, surfing the Internet, watching HD programs and movies, and writing emails and doing a few small tasks such as making lists and writing a letter or two then this iPad is for you. If you are into tweaking your operating system, then the iPad is not for you. Either way you should purchase what you want but if you are looking for a standalone, portable tablet that you can take
anywhere and enjoy fast Wi-Fi, easy operation, and lots of useful features that I would suggest you pick up an
iPad, but think carefully about the storage size. as for the lack of HDMI and USB ports, if I need this functionality in the future I will just purchase the additional adapters but I do not think this is a major concern.5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

The new iPad polishes the original idea to a high shine
by pjs_boston on March 17, 2012
Pros: Best display.
Super fast wireless.
Best battery life.
Best industrial design.
Easiest, prettiest, most responsive touch OS.
Best app store and ecosystem.
Best options for music, movies, tv shows, and books.
Best apps for content creation.Cons: A bit thicker and heavier than its predecessor. Takes a long time to charge the humongous internal battery.
Summary: This iteration is typical Apple. A must have upgrade for iPad 1 owners, optional for iPad 2 owners. For those new to tablets, it is far and away the best ...

Stunning Display and Very Fast Performance
by delraydoc on March 17, 2012
Pros: 1. Made by Apple; 2. Beautiful HD Retina Display; 3. Perfect addition to my my iOS / OS X home network; 4. Airplay plays nice with my Apple TV; 5. Very fast browsing; 6. Very fast 4G LTE on Verizon; 7. Camera is very good and exceeds my expectations.
Cons: No real cons. It is fragile, so I recommend a good case and Apple Care+. The price with everything is almost $1000.00, so that is a bit high.
Summary: It is a beautiful machine, that performs above expectations. I highly recommend that you buy one.

I wouldn't consider going back to my iPad 2
by DSL69 on March 18, 2012
Pros: No screen on any tablet can match the new iPad. It's absolutely stunning. And with a tablet, the screen is 90% of your interaction!
Cons: I see people complain that it weighs more, but I honestly don't notice the difference between my iPad 2 to an iPad 3. I would have liked to have had a larger storage capacity like 96 or 128 gig.
Summary: I'm very happy with my new iPad. I read other reviews and it seems like people are looking for reasons to complain. This is decidedly the best iPad or ...
Summary: I'm very happy with my new iPad. I read other reviews and it seems like people are looking for reasons to complain. This is decidedly the best iPad or tablet that has ever been made in my opinion. There's simply no other tablet on the market that combines all of the features of the iPad 3. Combine that with the most comprehensive collection of tablet applications and available media, and the choice was clear.

Summary: I would say if you have an iPad 2 stay with it no need to upgrade. If you have an iPad 1 like I did it is a great upgrade to go for. A lot better than the Xoom I had for 2 months. And as I said has a great screen on it and the graphics are great along with it.

Just Get One.
by Tec Consumer on March 17, 2012
Pros: Retina display is like plasma, iPad2 is like LCD. Amazing contrast. Responsive touch screen. Long battery life. Apps, Apps, Apps. Its just so pretty.
Cons: Too heavy. Home button is in the way of where your thumb should be to hold it. iPad2 is thinner. My retina hurts from looking at such a small screen all day. The price. Its an Apple.
Summary: Yes. I got one. Did I need one? No. Do you need one? Probably not. Should you get one? Definitely. Its everything a tablet should be. Aside from the price ...
Summary: Yes. I got one. Did I need one? No. Do you need one? Probably not. Should you get one? Definitely. Its everything a tablet should be. Aside from the price I find it hard to believe that any person who is into tec products could not like the iPad. Its not a device that many people would actually need. But its the kind of thing that few people can (or should) resist. Its like having a fun little interactive picture frame. Side by side the new display is like a nice plasma screen and the iPad2 screen looks like an LCD. The new screen has much better contrast and shading. But, the iPad2 is still probably the better deal. It is much lighter and much thinner. So it is much easier to hold on to. The added weight and thickness of the third generation makes the home button, which is right where your thumb should go, a nuisance because it takes more energy to hold it so you wind up accidentally pressing it a bit too often. I had played with a friend's iPad2 and this was not an issue even though the home button is in the same place. The extra weight and thickness is a big negative. The muscle at the base of my left thumb is killing me from holding it all day yesterday. However, I noticed that the lack of flash support is not as serious an issue as it was back when the iPad2 came out, which was pleasant surprise. Thank you web developers. It is extremely fast on the internet and the app store is as good as it gets. Just don't let your 4 year old know that it can play angry birds if you plan on actually using it yourself. I am very happy with the new iPad even though I am as anti Apple as anyone could be. Its a great device. But after using it all day I am certain that laptops and desktops aren't going away--ever. My retina hurts as much as my left thumb from looking at that pretty little touch screen all day. There's just no substitute for a real keyboard and a 19" screen or a 15" notebook when it comes to work and not play.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: MC705LL/A
- Description: Pick up the iPad and suddenly, it's clear. You're actually touching your photos, reading a book, playing the piano. Nothing comes between you and what you love. To make that hands-on experience even better, they made the fundamental elements of iPad better - the display, the camera, the wireless connection. All of which makes the third-generation iPad capable of so much more than you ever imagined. Everything you do with iPad, you do through its large, beautiful display. And when the display is better, the entire iPad experience is better. The Retina display on the iPad features a 2048-by-1536 resolution, 44-percent greater color saturation, and an astounding 3.1-million pixels - in the same 9.7-inch space. That's four times the number of pixels in iPad and a million more than an HDTV. Those pixels are so close together, your eyes can't discern individual ones at a normal viewing distance. When you can't see the pixels, you see the whole picture. Or article. Or game. In ways you never could before.
