Apple iPad Mini price range: $299.00 - $329.99

The good: The iPad Mini's ultrathin and light design is far more intimate and booklike than the larger iPad, and its cameras, storage capacities, optional LTE antenna, and general functionality offer a full iPad experience. The screen's dimensions elegantly display larger-format magazines and apps.
The bad: The iPad Mini costs too much, especially considering the lower resolution of its 7.9-inch non-Retina Display. The A5 processor isn't as robust as the one in the fourth-gen iPad and iPhone 5. Typing on the smaller screen is not quite as comfy.
The bottom line: If you want the full, polished Apple tablet experience in a smaller package, the iPad Mini is worth the premium price. Otherwise, good alternatives are available for less money.

Summary: The ipad mini is a great value for its price. I think the price should be $250 (that's just me!) The display is not bad, however I have a iPhone that has a retina display (4S) and the transition is hard. Other than that everything else about it is awesome! I would highly recommend this! I will give it that .5 star when two things happen a retina display and a price drop.

PERFECT For 8 yr old Grandson. Think about people CNET.
by bobderek on December 15, 2012
Pros: Great parental controls! PERFECT size tablet for a child under 13, and many older teens. It has what they want. The ONLY tablet selling on Amazon at a significant premium. Easy FREE in-person Apple support who set up all the parental controls.
Cons: Con about the CNET Review focus. Tablets are more personal devices & are used by kids as well as adults. Where's the review for kids? Most of the review means nothing to them. I have lots of stuff - none Apple - but this is THE best tahblet for him!
Summary: It's interesting to read a techies review. But the review does not even address the main issue for me. Besides that have you noruced that the IPAD Mini is ...
Summary: It's interesting to read a techies review. But the review does not even address the main issue for me. Besides that have you noruced that the IPAD Mini is the ONLY Tablet selling on Amazon at a significant premium to its list price.
This the THE correct size tablet for a little kid. I've seen them all and I like the Mini fopr my grandson MUCH more than any other tablet. It looks and works great. His father has an IPAD, and now he'll have one too.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, the Apple Mini has tremendous parental controls. How this was not featured in the review is beyond me.
I was able to set some myself and then it went to the nearby Apple store and where the helpful rep set up everything else for free. Just try doing that for any other tablet.
The browser is blocked by one appropriate for kids. No App downloads without the unguessable code that his father will keep secret. No book or content buys that don;t match his general age level. My grandson probably won't like all of this but he will be safe in one of the most undafe places he can be. And he'll have plenty, with the appropriate limitations that every kid should have. AN adult will be in charge. -

Besides iOS why buy this?

Summary: For what it's worth the iPad Mini is a very good tablet and I thank Apple for falling to peer pressure and making a smaller iPad finally. Yet the Mini to me is overpriced at $330 compared to the Nexus 7 or even Nexus 10, Kindle line, and even the Nook line. Obviously the listed tablets are very different since they all run on different forms of OS. The Fire and Nook have their weird and IMO frustrating adaptation of Android 4.0, while the Nexus has pure vanilla 4.2 running. If your a Apple lover and have been sucked into their ecosystem then the Mini is a no brainer and $330 is awesome since it's $170 less than a iPad, but for people like myself I find $330 to be crazy since I like and own other Android devices and I am not bound to their ecosystem of music, video, apps, and etc.
The device itself hands down feels premium. I own a Nexus 7 and it feels really great but still it's light cheap plastic while the iPad is a solid metal wonder. The Mini is probably the first tablet I would want to take pictures with not because the camera is amazing but because it's good and it's not on a heavy huge 10" tablet. I am less impressed with the internals though and the resolution. Apple has been pressing Resolution resolution or in their words Retina, so it's odd to see this tablet with such a mediocre resolution.
In the end the tablet will sell, but if your not bound to Apple I would look at a Fire or defiantly a Nexus device. $330 is an off number a steep number to pay for a toy that will be used now and then5 out of 13 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: As a long time user of Apple products, I have been waiting in anticipation of the iPad mini. The reduced size was the perfect balance I have been wanting. The high price tag is worth the price of admission with a beautifully designed device with the largest ecosystem for tablets. Unfortunately, Apple committed a major blunder in that while beautiful, it is not very functional for webpages. I spend a great deal of time on forums where the majority of the information is text. Not including a retina display is troubling. A non-retina display with a price of $199 or event $249 would be justified. However, at $329 the display better be outstanding and it is not. It isn't even adequate. I am returning mine and will try out the kindle fire hd or the nexus 7 as their displays are significantly better.

The crappy screen kills it completely

Summary: I love my 3rd generation iPad, with the only exception of it being too bulky and heavy. This one is so light, which is by far its largest advantage over the Android-based competitors and larger iPad models. And the screen ratio 3x4 makes it much more convenient for most applications (except widescreen movie watching, which I would never do on a tablet anyway). But I was highly disappointed when I actually tried the device. The highly granular screen makes it VERY tiresome to read from the screen. The screen is not just pure resolution, dark lines between pixels are actually quite visible, unlike in the earliest Android devices, which used to have similar resolution. So, the crappy screen kills the device completely! In summary, wait for a version with a better screen and buy it then, but not right now.

Summary: The very first time you hold the iPad Mini is amazing because of how light it is. Just like the iPhone 5 is lighter than previous generations, the light weight on this pretty much sells you automatically. The price is a joke but that's Apple. I like my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" a lot more because it's much cheaper and because Android is just much better (my opinion). It also has a slower processor compared to the 4th gen iPad that just came out (when this was announced). It's stupid how Apple isn't using Micro USB because now people also have to get a lightning charging adapter (which is a pain) but at least they made a converter from Lighting to Micro USB. The cellular option is always nice if you want the internet embedded into the device so you don't have to carry a Mifi around (or just use internet with wifi only...like home, coffee shop, etc).
Overall the iPad Mini is definitely a good buy if you want a lighter weight tablet over the regular 10.1" iPad, no retina display, slower processor and the optional cellular option(s).1 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.
