Archos 101 (16GB) price range: $343.00 - $349.99
- Reviewed by: Donald Bell

The good: The Archos 101 is one of few Android 2.2 tablets with a large 10.1-inch screen. Extras such as a front-facing camera, Mini-HDMI output, USB host and sync ports, and microSD memory expansion are impressive considering the tablet's low price.
The bad: Charging requires wall adapter, screen quality and responsiveness are mediocre; onscreen keyboard is awkward; not fully compatible with Adobe Flash; lacks support for Android Market and Google Mobile apps, such as Maps, Navigation, Contacts, and Calendar.
The bottom line: The Archos 101 tablet's price is right and the screen is ample, but the experience is outdated and performance is sluggish.

Returned it.
by drewu on February 25, 2011
Pros: Light, cheap, wide-screen, Android
Cons: Screen is terrible. Specifically the glass is so thin that it flexes when you touch it, and when it flexes, the touchscreen stops working.
Summary: I really wanted to like it since it's like half the price of an iPad, but in this case, you get what you pay for.

Great for web surfing and book reading.
by billdom1 on September 10, 2011
Pros: Good price at $259 in Tiger Direct, everything I've tried work so far even flash. Decent screen quality, USB and micro USB ports, HDMI output, Micro SD card slot, the kick stand is very effective and convenient.
Cons: No Android Market or flash out of the box, you'll need to update the included AppsLib app in order to download and install Arctools and then you'll be able to install Android Market and support for Flash. Touch screen not as sensitive in the edges as it i

Summary: Bought my Archos 101 8 GB over a week ago, I was looking for a tablet mostly for web browsing and checking emails in order to avoid carrying a heavier laptop around the house. I've been surprised on how much more it can do. Not all yahoo accounts can be accessed via email apps, I have a yahoo email account and the only way I can access it is using the yahoo web interface via the browser, not a big deal, use yahoo mobile web interface over the regular web interface for faster and more agile feel. Gmail and other email providers can be accessed via apps.
There are a lots of comments and videos around the web stating that this tablet does not support Flash, THIS IS NOT TRUE, out of the box it is not installed however, you can get flash and the Android market by following this steps.
- Update AppsLib application. Out of the box, AppsLib dos not work, you need to update it and this is pretty easy. Just run AppsLib and tap on the only thing that is displayed, the update option.
- Once updated, use AppsLib to find Arctools, download and install it.
- Run Arctools and look for the option to download and install flash and Android Market.
After the above steps are executed, you'll need to reboot. Flash content will be shown with a down arrow in the browser, tap on the arrow and the flash content will be show. This give you control on what flash content you want to see. Performance is not great for flash, close any other apps to improve performance. So far every apps I have installed from the Android Market is working well.
The kick stand behind the tablet looks flimsy in videos and pictures but it have a very solid feel and it is very effective.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: Battery life, ease of use, touch screen, apps, I got a world map app and it works really great especially with the touch screen. plays movies, has usb, hdmi out ( have not tried) fair amount of storage 16 g + 16 g sdhc card option
Cons: flash must be hacked to play, have to buy the add on to play mkv movie files, hard to find much wrong after owning for 2 months

Great tablet for the price
by meowlise on March 1, 2011
Pros: The Archos 101 has everything you need in a tablet, you can surf the web, watch videos, play games, read ebooks, etc. You can access the android market by downloading ArcTools from the Archos appslib. Then you can install flash 10.
Cons: The widescreen size is different. Only 256mb ram.
Summary: I would highly recommend this tablet if you are looking for all the functionality at a reasonable price. I haven't had any problems with wifi or the touchscreen. Battery ...

What is late is this review not the device.
by renGek on February 25, 2011
Pros: Will do just about everything that most people would with a tablet and then some.
Cons: While it has a lot of features, some may or may not work for you like cell phone tethering. Its really dependent on the phone

Summary: I'm sure the reviewer did his homework and know that the archos 101 came out about 3 months ago. The fact that he is LATE with his review does not mean the device is late. This device is awesome for its price range. For most people who "claims" they need a tablet, this is going to do what they need. Quite honestly most of what people will do is browse the web and watch videos on the plane/train. You don't need to spend $700 to do that. This is a fraction of the price so why the heck not? Considering there will be thousands of tablets over the next few years, you don't really want to invest that much anyway but you also want a tablet so why not go for this?
By the way cnet, how many months will it take you to review their newer models the arnova 8" ($150) and 10" ($199) tablets? Maybe by the time ipad 9 comes out?1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

by capskie on August 28, 2011
Pros: + easy to operate.
+ good battery life.
+ small but big.
+ cheap.
+ it has USB connections and micro SD card slot.
+ good video and audio player.Cons: - the touch screen is not responsive & not smooth.
- connection via USB between tablet and computer is not charging the battery.
- a bit slow when you open application or folder.
- yes, the front camera is horrible.
- start up need sometime.Summary: I just buy one and first impression I'm a bit disappoint with the touch screen. Its slow, not smooth and not responsive. Maybe because my other touch screen device (...
Summary: I just buy one and first impression I'm a bit disappoint with the touch screen. Its slow, not smooth and not responsive. Maybe because my other touch screen device (cell) is the Galaxy S II, so it is quiet a big different.
My advise, don't install to much apps such as live background and games, because if you did, it will make the device slow and slower, or even freeze. But the reason I buy this tablet is just for a video player so my kids can watch movie on the back seat..., so its an "ok" from me. :) -
Disappointing device
by luchoe on July 13, 2011
Pros: Cheap, thin
Cons: Extremely slow, software updates just made it worse, now is freezing continuously, screen has weird lines like a grid, in just a word this device is ..... "useless" , i'll throw it away, i lost my money.

Really poorly built
by bennrock on May 25, 2011
Pros: Big Screen
Great connectivity/sharing
Good UI/OS
Good soundCons: Really really really poorly built. Perhaps the worst built product I have ever come across. If you say you have had luck with Archos before then you have not tried the 101. It is **** poor construction.
Summary: Buy it if you can handle gently. Do not drop or set down hard and do not let a child handle it. It is really cheaply made.
