The good: The lightweight, 8GB Archos 80 G9 tablet runs 1080p video smoothly, and its kickstand is a useful addition.
The bad: The tablet is uncomfortable to hold, with disappointing viewing angles and awkward button placement. Its single camera has poor recording quality.

For $269, there is no better dual-core tablet value.
by Charbax on October 13, 2011
Pros: Fastest tablet on the market with OMAP4, most features in a tablet with 3G/kick-stand/USB host and with the full video and audio codecs support, Upnp/Samba streaming and more.
Cons: 8" doesn't fit in a jacket pocket so that means the tablet can hardly be carried around outdoors without using a bag.

Summary: It's perfectly fine to hold it with your hands, I don't know what the cnet reviewer is trying to say. In fact thanks to the kick-stand it's much more confortable to use this Archos than any other tablet on the market. The viewing angles are also perfectly fine. If you want a slightly better screen, get the Archos 101 G9 but then you have to pay about $70 more and the device is bigger. Nobody needs to view the screen from a side, everyone uses tablets looking at them from straight ahead.

Dollar-for-dollar, one of the best low-end tablets.
by ToddC55 on December 19, 2011
Pros: * Dual-core processor
* Android Honeycomb 3.2
* Full access to Android apps marketplace
* Full flash support
* High-res 1024 x 768 screen, 8" (not 7")Cons: I agree that the placement of volume buttons is not ideal. And the camera resolution is not great (but also not terrible). But these seem minor.
Summary: Yes, some of the better $500 tabs have some superior features. But I would take this one and $200 in my pocket any day. Any other tablet < $300 fails ...
Summary: Yes, some of the better $500 tabs have some superior features. But I would take this one and $200 in my pocket any day. Any other tablet < $300 fails on some of the features delivered with the Archos 80-- either they are running older OS (2.x), or they only have 4MB RAM or less, or they lack acces to the full Android market (Kindle Fire, Nook Tab), thus are more of a glorified e-reader, for close to the same price. This one truly hits the sweet spot. I'm just surprised it's not more widely available. But I got mine, so I'm good.

Best little tablet running Honeycomb... UNBEATABLE!
by leehemen on October 28, 2011
Pros: Thin, light weight, good viewing angles, does Netflix well, and it runs all the apps I like! Did I say it was fast? It is! I did not want another stupid camera, except for Skype. It also has the ability to use a 3G USB dongle, which sells for $50! Surpris
Cons: Has froze twice but easily fixed by rebooting. No great speakers but no tablet even iPads have speakers worth anything.
Summary: I would reccommend this tablet to anyone who simply wants one that is functional for a good price.

Unbeatable for the price
by richrol on October 5, 2011
Pros: The Archos 80 g9 is fast. Despite what the cnet reviewer said it seems to have solid build quality. My wife has an Asus Transformer tablet, which does not seem to be built quite as solid as the g9. The screen, while not outstanding, is easily bright enoug
Cons: The placement of the volume rocker is poorly thought out. It's right where your right hand might be when holding the tablet in landscape mode. I've also noticed that, while applications start quickly, I did have it hang up and take a minute or so to open

Summary: For $299, this is an outstanding tablet. I haven't seen some of the f0.1 in tablets, but the Asus, which I've used quite a lot, while good, is not worth $100 more. The g tablet which I've used even more, doesn't even come close for about the same price. I really like the 8" size of the 80 g9, and highly recommend it. I have to say that I have no idea how reliable it will be. The one I have, b y the way, is the standard 1ghz, 8gb, so I'm sure when the 1.5ghz models come out, they'll be screamers!

Awesome tablet!!
by lisad613 on August 6, 2012
Pros: Fast, great color, easy to use! I paid $149 at Staples and it was originally $249! I'm a novice when it comes to tablets and I don't need to game. I just want to read with it, watch movies and basic games.
Cons: It froze up on me once, but I re-booted, no biggie.
Summary: If you are looking for a great inexpensive tablet, get this one!!
