Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime (32GB, gray) price range: $389.00 - $706.68

The good: The Asus Transformer Prime sports an iPad 2-inspired design that's even thinner and nearly as light, while also managing to include microSD and Micro-HDMI support. The Prime delivers smooth and clear 1080p video, and the 8-megapixel camera captures detail and color more accurately than any other tablet camera we've reviewed. Android 4.0 makes small but significant improvements to Honeycomb.
The bad: Not every game takes advantage of the quad-core CPU, and frame rates can suffer as a result. When connected to the dock keyboard, the tablet is top-heavy and can easily slide off a lap or table if you're not careful.
The bottom line: The Asus Transformer Prime is the best full-featured Android tablet yet, with a sexy design, thoughtful features, and an impressive camera.

Asus Transformer Prime gamble pays off
by bcummings30044 on April 20, 2012
Pros: 1) Video is impressive
2) Wireless performance is good
3) CPU performance is excellent (though I don't play a lot of games so I may not be the best source for this)
4) Fit and Finish are very nice.Cons: 1) On/Off button is hard to reach and press

Summary: I studied the tablets both online and in the stores for a couple of months. The ASUS Transformer Prime was impressive (and hard to find) but when I read the reviews, there were concerns with the metal backing conflicting with the wireless functionality. There were other concerns about apps crashing regularly. I took the gamble anyways. I have owned my pad for about a month. I use it daily at work as an organizer, and at home for checking sports and news and watching videos. In that month, the note app that came with the pad suddenly closed itself one time. Other than that, it has performed well and I have had no other issues. The rear camera takes a moment focus but the quality of the pictures is impressive. So far, smooth sailing.

Tablet not for everyone, must have bought a lemon?
by glpatnode on April 9, 2012
Pros: Cute purple color, easy to hold in your hands, nice android features once you can get the WiFi to work. You could probably tell your friends you got a iPAD and show it to them at a distance and amaze them that you really did get the real thing(iPAD).
Cons: The glue that holds this together is WiFi access and after 10 feet away from my WiFi, it loses signal and drops out, making it useless for downloads, net access and so on, just terrible. HBO GO is not accessible, GPS is a bust.
Summary: I believed Cnet for the rave reviews and bought the thing, 64GB with keyboard and all the accessories I could think of, but what a waste of money. The WiFi ...
Summary: I believed Cnet for the rave reviews and bought the thing, 64GB with keyboard and all the accessories I could think of, but what a waste of money. The WiFi cuts out after 10 feet andI know its not my wireless router which is new - because my laptop works, my Blu-ray devices and other WiFi devices work perfectly, including the new iPAD I bought to replace this tablet, even in the basement. We tried to use it for displaying pictures for our business, but it took way too long to download them in this tablet. GPS is a problem, too, and the dongle ASUS wants to give out is not what I bargained for, it is supposed to great as is, not "fixed" like that, IMO. We would sell this thing but we have a conscience, too bad ASUS doesn't, otherwise it wouldn't sell this crap, no more ASUS for me, ever.

Good processor, bad GPS/WIFI
by DLSkipper on March 25, 2012
Pros: Great processor speed and decent battery life, nice packaging, great weight
Cons: poor gps and wifi out of the box and each new firmware made it worse. either the new units are perfect or they are not. I think ASUS had Quality Control issues with the connectors. Simple design should not let some units work great and others not while fi
Summary: I will try another to get one which works but also will try again with the next gen units in the next quarter.

Absolutely Amazing!
by W0nderwa11 on March 21, 2012
Pros: USB port! I LOVE that with the keyboard dock that SD, flash drives and external hard drives can be used. The battery life is great especially with the self sacrificing keyboard dock that gives its power to the table and extends the life dramatically.
Cons: It is a bit top heavy with the keyboard but not a show stopped at all for what it is able to do so well.

Summary: The second i opened up the box i was shocked at the looks of it! I almost threw the tablet out of my hands when i first picked it up because of how light it was! I powered it on and setup was a breeze. I tried glowball and i was shocked at the graphics capablities and i saw that only 70-80 percent of the cpu was being used! When i used benchmarks [for example antutu and Quadrant] my score was over double that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1! [I cant imagine how much it will beat the ipad 2 by!] Overall I have had the tablet for about 4 months now and i think it was the best purchase i ever made and i hope to keep the tablet for a about 2 years without it being outdated and in the tablet market that is quit the thing to say! If you are thinking of buying the Ipad 3, dont even consider! You should buy this tablet because the new Ipad has a retina display [made by Samsung] but you arent going to see a huge difference from this tablet unless you hold it an inch away from your eyes! Also, the new Ipad has only a dual core processor [also made by Samsung] so the prime is about twice as powerful cpu wise. the new Ipad also has an improved graphics core from the previos generation, but with the retina display it has more pixels to drive so therefore it means less performance. Overall this tablet is the best tablet to date by a long shot and dont even think about buying an Ipad 3 over this!

The 'right' tablet for the Android crowd.
by JoeySnackpants on March 19, 2012
Pros: + Nice form factor
+ Multiple power and functionality options. (i.e. Speed, power consumption, etc.)
+ Optional Keyboard Dock that also houses an extra battery pack.
+ "Island" Chicklet Keyboard design.
+ Micro-SD Card slot, that is also easy accessCons: - Radio connectivity can be spotty. I have only run into one issue with connectivity.
- Color choice can be 'strange'. The 'gray' is closer to a light purple.
- Micro-SD card slot may be 'too easy' to access, allowing the SD Card to pop out.
- No USBSummary: An exceptional tablet in the Android family, with only a few quibbles that make it fall short of 5 stars.

Great Tablet!!!
by wdet on March 19, 2012
Pros: Speed! My ASUS Transformer Prime runs circles around my wife's IPad 2. The ability to expand it using the micro SD card slot is a big plus and it comes packaged with Polaris Office which allows me to work on my Microsoft Office documents.
Cons: Only thing I can think of is a soft power on/off button. I've added a software power off button but I still have to power it on with the main button.
Summary: If you're looking for a great tablet and you don't want an IPad, the ASUS Transformer Prime is the only way to go. They can be hard to ...

Slimmer & Lighter than iPad 2 and the coming new iPad
Fast Browser on ICS
Crystal Clear Super IPS+ Display
Higher Resolution and Better Camera than iPad 2
at $499.00 you can get 32GB vs 16GB for the new iPCons: Weak Wifi Signals
Not a lot of apps for android tablets
some android apps not yet optimized for ICS
Limited Availability, Online and Retail Stores
lack of ecosystem (accessories) made for this tablet
Lackluster Tech Support

The Browser on the Android 4.0.3 is remarkably fast. I get most of the basic stuff done online on this tablet, but I still haven't get used to the touchscreen typing, guess I need to learn to adjust a bit.
It's even great for reading your day to day news and magazine, and I even read ebooks off of this. I have plenty of Free Games and Apps from Amazon Appstore, and I make free google voice call and text off of this, no wonder I'm not going back with Apple ever again (you can't convince a geek to limit what he can do lol), this is truely a remarkable multimedia device.
I heard stories about Wifi and GPS signals, but if you have an N-router at your house, make sure to update the firmware on your router and your tablet then you shouldn't have a problem with this.
It's true This might only be a limited availability and there isn't a lot of ecosystem made for this tablet but since I but most of mine accessories online (case + screen protector), I'm very happy with what I have. Although tech support might not be great coming from Asus, this is might not be good if your tablet is fried! (So far I have yet have a problem with mine) You can buy 3rd party insurance for your warranty if you want to reassure tech support or product replacement for your tablet. But If you want more control in life and have a tablet with desktop functionality, then the Transformer Prime is perfect for you, but if you want an easy access ecosystem and tech support from Genius Bar instead, get the iPad, shut up and you won't need to complaint. Of course I'm not putting down negative comments the Asus or Apple, I'm just giving people the knowledge of Goods and Bads like everything else has it's advantages and disadvantages. Of course if you're smart enough to come to cnet then you're smarter consumer than the rest of people relying on salesmen to pitch them a product off their counter. So far I'm very happy with
