Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime (32GB, gray) price range: $399.96 - $706.68

The good: The Asus Transformer Prime sports an iPad 2-inspired design that's even thinner and nearly as light, while also managing to include microSD and Micro-HDMI support. The Prime delivers smooth and clear 1080p video, and the 8-megapixel camera captures detail and color more accurately than any other tablet camera we've reviewed. Android 4.0 makes small but significant improvements to Honeycomb.
The bad: Not every game takes advantage of the quad-core CPU, and frame rates can suffer as a result. When connected to the dock keyboard, the tablet is top-heavy and can easily slide off a lap or table if you're not careful.
The bottom line: The Asus Transformer Prime is the best full-featured Android tablet yet, with a sexy design, thoughtful features, and an impressive camera.

Highly Under-rated Tablet
by DOIGOTTAWORK on March 9, 2012
Pros: -beautiful, crisp display
-Android 4.0
-remote desktop access
-expandable memory slot
-svelt, sexy designCons: -Can't transfer MKV files to tablet (as of this review havent tried installing micro sd card with MKV files already on it to see if that works)
-MyCloud service has a data transfer max, so transferring my large HD movie files is a no-go.Summary: This isn't just a great "Android Tablet' this is just a great tablet. From the design, to Asus software preloads, to the intuitive display. This is a tech junkies ...
Summary: This isn't just a great "Android Tablet' this is just a great tablet. From the design, to Asus software preloads, to the intuitive display. This is a tech junkies dream
The biggest highlight of all is Android 4.0. Gone are the subpar internet browsing and glitchy programming. When you tell this thing to move, it moves!
Another feature that I didn't know I needed, until I had it, is the 'System performance' setting. On the Prime you have the option to pick between 'Power saving mode''Balanced mode' and 'Performance mode'. Personally, I could care less about saving power; I want to see POWER.
Simply put. This is a great piece of tech with enough settings and option transform (pun intended) it from A tablet, to YOUR tablet. Enough said! -
An IPAD competitor finally.
by thekracen on March 8, 2012
Pros: Quick! Sexy!
Cons: Lack of stock on champagne Prime and dock in US. Finally got Prime on 02-08-12 and the dock 03-09-12.
Summary: It does what you would expect from a quad core android tablet and that is what I wanted.

Beauty Outside, Beast Inside
by lorsban on March 7, 2012
Pros: Sleek, classy design.
Super Fast Quad-Core performance.
Dual-battery (with dock)
Dock makes laptops obsolete.
Ports galore.Cons: GPS is difficult to activate and operate. Good thing I don't need or use GPS so it's a non-issue for me.

Summary: I used to have an Asus Transformer TF101. When this was announced, I patiently waited for reviews and for it to be released where I am. Good thing, it came out just last week and, I grabbed the last one in the store! I prefer to buy at the store rather than online so I can test the product. Problem with high-tech products is that there are hundreds of things that can go wrong, so testing is a must.
The TF101 was already a great device and if I wasn't such a gear-hound, I'd be happy with just that. However, when Asus announced the specs of the Prime, how can you NOT take notice? This thing on paper is a beast! It literally has everything I need or want in a laptop/tablet hybrid. Luckily, actual use doesn't disappoint. The speed difference between this and the old Transformer is very noticeable. This has zero lag even on heavy sites. Opening and closing apps and moving between windows is a snap, no jitter or anything.
When it comes to design, the Prime looks and feels like a high-end laptop. Similar to the Macbook Air. It's very thin and easy to carry around. The tablet alone is very impressive in terms of design. When I got the old Transformer, I wished they would jazz-up the tablet part so 1. It's thinner and 2. It feels good to hold. The Prime gave everything I wanted and more. Not only is this possibly the best looking tablet for Android, it's also the best performing as well.
Multimedia-wise, this can handle anything. But where this also shines is in the office. It can handle all of my office tasks, and it gives me more battery life and more user options than a netbook. If I need to show something, I just need to remove the tablet and pass it on.
The only negative is GPS. It's not easy to get working and starting it up needs wifi - but I guess that's because the apps that use GPS need some sort of network connection to get data or whatnot, but what's the use of adding GPS, which uses satellites, if you need to be indoors or near a wifi spot for the rest of the data? Again, I don't use GPS, Maps, Navigation so it's not an issue for me, but for a lot of other guys it's a big deal (apparently). Most probably there's some app or fix that will make GPS useful and effective without wifi but at this point, I'm not gonna bother with it.
In spite of that, this still gives me everything I want and more. With Tegra3 and ICS, it's as high-end as can be. All I have to do now is wait for the software to catch-up with the hardware. -
IIIIIIIIII love it !!

Summary: I am neither an apple fanboy or and avid androider. Toiling over the right tablet has been difficult at best. I like the ability to use widgets and the conveniences provided by android systems but miss the polished ios of apple. Comparing just hardware the Transformer prime is hands down the better of the Ipad 2 or comparable android tablets to date. The optional keyboard dock (typing this review on it now) is beyond slick. Battery life, micro hdmi out, expandable memory and the 8mp camera are what sealed the deal. I am only hoping that the android market will catch up with the apple app store in terms of polished apps. I am not 100% sold on android but hope that the market improves with ICS ready apps

Great performance, portability & usability.
by joewentworth on February 21, 2012
Pros: Speed. Keyboard dock is amazing. Battery is good and with the keyboard it is amazing. I have had no issues with wi-fi at all. Full size USB is great.
Cons: Only one speaker on the back, not great sound without headphones.

Summary: With the optional keyboard this tablet is OVER the top. You can actually do real work with the keyboard attached and not simply have an overly priced reader/game pad. I have written many document and simply love the Prime. I had a friend who was considering an iPad and then he saw my ASUS Transformer Prime and did an about face. You will not be disappointed. I have not had any Wi-Fi issues at all. Picks up signal great everywhere I have been. Some people knock that it does not have 3G/4G and that is really not big deal to me. I have no desire to add to my monthly phone bill anyway. Most locations have internet available now and if I am in a pinch, I have my phone and can swap in/out the micro SD if I really needed to or connect my phone to the USB with the full size USB port on the keyboard. Just love this tablet.

Summary: Ok, so I've been in the tablet market for the last 3 months and I finally was able to get my hands on this product. Trust me when I say it wasn't easy but it was worth the trouble. This tablet is by far the most advanced and fastest tablet on the market (IOS or Android). That doesn't mean it's perfect because no tech product is. Those out there looking for a device that never has bugs or issues might as well stop now because you'll never find something to your liking. What I can say is that ASUS did a fine job with putting this together. I won't touch on every aspect of the Transformer Prime but here are some highlights:
Screen- This screen is bright and beautiful. You can set the Super IPS display if you're outdoors but otherwise, the regular brightness is perfectly fine. The resolution is the same as most 10.1 inch tablets and is crisp and clear.
Speed- This tablet has a Tegra 3 quad-core processor and it is blazing. You can multi-task to your hearts delight and it won't skip a beat. It opens applications faster than any phone or tablet I can think of. The encouraging news is that they are still really developing apps for the Tegra 3 so when that becomes more relevant this thing will be even better. Scrolling and touch sensitivity is "buttery" smooth with no lag whatsoever.
Build- This is a very aesthetically pleasing device. What I mean is that it is an eye-catcher. Brushed aluminum backing and super thin, it looks fantastic. It's light and the weight balance is perfect when holding with one hand or two. Gorilla glass screen means that you won't have to worry about scratches. Those out there that complain about fingerprints need to realize that this is the case for 99% of tablets out there. (HINT: use the microfiber cloth that comes with it)
Storage and Connectivity- One of the biggest selling points was the storage space. 32gb of onboard memory PLUS it has a micro-sd card slot for expansion. This thing can become an entertainment powerhouse. It has a micro-hdmi out so you can connect to TVs or projectors. This means you can watch Netflix and other movies on a bigger screen if you'd prefer. You won't have to buy a proprietary cables just to connect. Of course, the big sell is the laptop dock accessory. I personally don't need it but its a great option if you want a netbook like experience. Oh yeah, you can also use PS3 or USB gaming controllers with this to play games!
Battery Life- So I haven't done an "official" battery test but in my usage so far I easily get a couple days out of this tablet. It obviously depends on what the settings are (i.e. screen brightness, power mode) but trust me when I say that if you go on a long trip with this thing you'll be good to go with juice to spare.
Ice Cream Sandwich- This may not matter in a month or two but it is currently one of a few select devices that has the latest operating system of Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. I won't get into all the details of what ICS is but I can say that it is user friendly and has loads of potential.
Side notes:
Ok, so a lot of people may have heard about certain users having issues with WIFI and/or GPS. On my end, I haven't had a single issue with WIFI. The signal is always strong even at a good distance away from the router. I think this just may be an isolated issue with some of the devices. I don't think this is indicative of all the tablets. I haven't used the GPS much but I can guess that the all-aluminum backing has something to do with the issues its having catching signals from satellites. Honestly though, it's ridiculous to use this as a standalone GPS device.
As a heads-up, this tablet is currently (as of 2/21) extremely hard to come by. It is sold out at most, if not all retailers. I'm sure ASUS will eventually be able to keep up with demand but be warned that you may not be able to get one for a while. This obviously is a result of the shortsightedness of ASUS and should bear no negative reflection on the tablet itself.
The Verdict:
So is this worth $499.99 of your hard earned money? If you're looking for the best tablet available then the answer is a definitive YES. It's certainly worth more for your money than ANY tablet at and around its price. -
