The good: RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook is a fast, powerful 7-inch tablet with HDMI output, advanced multitasking and security, and a browser that integrates Adobe Flash 10.2 for a desktop-style Web experience.
The bad: The 7-inch screen cramps the powerful browser; the wake button is difficult to push; and app selection trails the competition.
The bottom line: The BlackBerry PlayBook ably showcases RIM's powerful new mobile operating system, but its middling size diminishes many of its best features.

I made the RIGHT choice with RIM
by DerickMark on October 11, 2011
Pros: It's SIZE! I love how I just toss it in my backpack head to class open my power points and do my thing all on my playbook. It to me has balls for being its size. ITs the REAL internet on a REAL tablet.
Cons: The APP WORLD S T I N K S ! ! seems like RIM was in a rush and didn't fully have all its ends tied...

Super easy to use! Great extension of my Blackberry!
by kayruun on September 30, 2011
Pros: Easy as pie to set up and sync with my blackberry right out of the box. Beautiful graphics and very responsive. Easy to use. Very portable -- love that it fits in my purse or briefcase without adding bulk. Automatically syncs emails and tasks with pho
Cons: Native task list is almost as lame as the one on the Blackberry phone (but can get apps for that). Underappreciated and not as many apps available as for other tablets.

Summary: Having a device that auto-syncs with my smartphone is fantastic. I love my Blackberry Torch, but much of its capability is wasted because it is too frustrating to use the browser and browser-based functions with such a small screen and slow-loading pages on the Torch. The Playbook is a seamless and beautiful extension of the Blackberry, but with a far better browser. I wanted something easy to take with me anywhere and that would not require effort to keep up-to-date and in sync with other tools I use to manage my calendar and to-do lists. I also use it to keep notes with things I need to remember or refer to, and love that I can access those notes at home, at work, while traveling, while out running errands. Those notes are also sync'd with the memo pad on my blackberry, so even if I didn't have the Playbook with me, I would have all the info (it's just easier to read and type into on the Playbook). I love that, no matter which device I last used, the changes are available in either one. It also turns out to be the easiest way to interact with facebook. I like the calculator, camera and other preinstalled apps (like weather), because they are easy to use. The more I play with it, the more I like it.

Best OS, Interface and Hardware -- Lacking Apps
by ChromeXenon on August 1, 2011
Pros: - True multitasking monster of an operating system
- Intuitive user interface
- Great hardware design (feels like the right size, weight and the rubberized back is a nice touch)Cons: - Lack of apps
- Lack of native email (this was unforgivable for RIM to put out a device without native email!)
- Some may want a larger screen sizeSummary: When the native email, android player and other apps like Netflix arrive, this will be a serious contender, until then, we wait and hope.

Fast and easy to use, but kind of small
by joma000054 on July 30, 2011
Pros: Has a very nice interface and is very fast, also its small size makes it easy to bring along.
Cons: Its small size limits its uses as a media center and the volume buttons on top should have been forward/backward and pause buttons instead.
Summary: The Blackberry playbook is a powerful but small tablet. A very good gadget to have.

Summary: I also don't get it, this is a great tablet. Yes, it is not 10" but the folks here a cnet do not seem to understand that some of us want portability. This review and the Prize Fight between the Playbook and the HP TouchPad both criticize it for not being larger. I think it is obvious that it is smaller and so quit the "it is smaller" garbage.
This thing is fast, I tried this, TouchPad, and a couple of Android tablets and this one is as fast as any. It does lack apps but so does the TouchPad and Honeycomb Android tablets with only about 200 apps. I think more will come for all of them. Once the native email, contact, and BBM apps are released this will be great. I have a BB so I use bridge, this is a good idea for enterprise use and also BB owners but hurts the appeal to those outside looking at tablets.
QNX is awesome, this really shows that RIM can still produce quality products and software. Yes I know that QNX has been around for a while but not on a tablet, this is a worthy competitor to iOS and webOS. Some more Apps and native functions and this make the Playbook even more of a winner than it is. I own an original iPad and will probably purchase an iPad 3 when release but also like the Playbook.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Totally impressed with it!!! Awesome gadget!!!
by dfoco on July 14, 2011
Pros: Real time access to emails, bb messages, and files. Perfect size for a complete portability, much more practical to carry along than a laptop. Very userfriendly. Quick processing. Video looks amazing!! Camera takes very nice pics. Ebooks on the playbook a
Cons: A little heavier than I expected. Need more apps!! Wish it had an SD slot for expanded memory.

Summary: I've had the Blackberry Playbook for about 1 week, and so far, it's great! I was a little sceptical about the size, thinking it was going to be too small, but, honestly, anything bigger is practically a netbook. It's ultra-portable, which is great when roaming around town, or traveling, and instead of having to fire up a laptop, you just swipe the screen, and the Playbook is ready to go! I can do all of my online banking on the go, even when the bank uses a flash page as it's interface, the Playbook can access it all. I don't even think I need my laptop to travel anymore...I can show all of my product lines and presentations straight from my Playbook! It's really a great companion. It's a shame there arent' more apps for it. At least more messaging apps, and some productivity apps would be nice. I'm not much of a gamer, so, lack of games isn't a big deal. Battery life is good, it depends on the brightness of the screen. What impressed me, was that I was able to do all of my online banking, including, transfers, payments, changes, etc. all on the Playbook. This means I don't have to take my laptop very many places anymore. Videos look awesome!! I haven't tested how many movies I can watch on one charge, but, I've been able to watch about 4 hours of movies and still it had about 30% of energy left. The Playbook's size is nice! An ipad feels too big now. I would definitely recommend a playbook to someone who travels a lot, and requires full access to websites, as well as Powerpoint, Word, and Excel. It's a great tool to travel with. Go for, at least, the 32gb version...highly recommended.
