The good: RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook is a fast, powerful 7-inch tablet with HDMI output, advanced multitasking and security, and a browser that integrates Adobe Flash 10.2 for a desktop-style Web experience.
The bad: The 7-inch screen cramps the powerful browser; the wake button is difficult to push; and app selection trails the competition.
The bottom line: The BlackBerry PlayBook ably showcases RIM's powerful new mobile operating system, but its middling size diminishes many of its best features.

Great tablet at a fantastic price
by bfarns19 on January 21, 2012
Pros: Very nice UI, both cameras record in 1080P, cameras are quite good, side speakers are surprisingly good, 7" size is nice for efficient transporting while on-the-go. Can multi-task better than almost every tablet out there.
Cons: The over-exaggerated deficiencies of the app store ... will likely be fixed with the OS update this February - opening up some android market place apps. However, I will deduct half-a-star from my rating because of this 'app world' shortcoming.
Summary: Compare the build quality and specs of this 7" tablet to any other tablet on the market and it compares quite favorably in my opinion.

Oddly enough, I've never come across a product that got ripped so much by industry 'experts' and yet received very favorable reviews from the vast majority of its consumers. Check out some product review wesbites found at futureshop.ca, bestbuy.com, thesource.ca, etc.
* The Playbook is on sale from shopblackberry.com and other retailers until the end of January for $300 for the 64GB, 32GB, and 16GB models .... yes they're all the same price regardless of storage capacity. $300 for a 64GB tablet of this build quailty is a fantastic price considering the current market and the competition.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

7inch is a great companion and useful in its own way.
by UF-X on April 22, 2011
Pros: - Size (if you know why you are buying this)
- UI - user interface is great!
- smooth and stunning - runs smoothly and the view is beautiful to say the least.
- feel and build - high quality and nice feel to it.
- on screen keyboard - very responsive, andCons: - Need more apps if we would compare some of its functionality to other tablets.
- small screen for those who expects something ipad or laptop like (this is a unique class of its own).
- No netflex so it is needed as soon as possible :)
- no auto correctiSummary: I like this device. I didn't have so much expectations and everyone used it so far was impressed.

I don't think you can compare this to ipad or xoom etc. because i honestly believe that each is differer experience due to the size.
if you need something that does a lot of things but a phone is too small, and an ipad or xoom is too big then this is the one you want.
Buy what you need. this is an ultimate mobile device and better than a phone, but can't replace a laptop or a notbook. a true light and powerful companion.
by the way, i love the web based experiance where google features are easy to access in full function. i.e. google docs.
also while there are not always apps as of today, there are web based tabs you can click on (from the app tray) and it will lunch an app like experience.
Hope it is a useful review, good luck (i will try to update the review once I spend more time with the device - day 3)1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I own an ipad 3 (which i hate) a samsung galaxy tab 2 (which i love) but above all i find myself using the playbook more than the others, the i pad in my opinion is a really really good photo frame (excluding stand) and andriod feels like an incomplete os that was made for games and eating up battery, my playbook i use for everything videos, books, messaging, checking my social stuff, and more recently playing some great games, stuff i have yet to see on android. it seems the playbook is the only one to leave the house, oh and i'm writing this from my it now.
overall in my opinion it's the ONE to get -
After the upgrade the Playbook is outstanding.
by camjr164 on February 22, 2012
Pros: Just recently received the update for this Playbook. The upgrades since are incredible. I believe this now can stand up to the IPAD2. I'm impressed.
Cons: I have not cons about this product since the updates.

Best Tablet in the market today Hands Down.
by nt300 on January 4, 2012
Pros: The UI is amazing. Powerful Dual-Core 1GHz CPU and a whopping 1GB of DRAM. The multi-tasking on this thing is amazing. More than enough apps and games to keep you going.
Full native Flash support, this is where the Playbook kills the iPad(s).Cons: Woudl have been nice to have more choice for apps and games. But still there is more than enough to choose from.

RIM did announce a massive OS update coming in Feb 2012 that will update the core of the device along with the introduction of full Android app support.

Needs more versatility
by schoolmarm97 on August 12, 2011
Pros: Love the compact size as it fits neatly in my purse. The speed is terrific, and the sensitivity of the touch screen almost a little too much, but it works for my purposes. Nice tabbing, makes it easy to switch between apps. Very nice camera that works
Cons: BUT apps are still scant (though more appear every day) and I'd like a way to link a non-Blackberry phone. It's annoying to have such power and not be able to use it to sync with my Palm. Isn't there an app for that somewhere? Not happy that I couldn't

Summary: On the whole it's a nice cross between a smart phone and a tablet, if only it would link to my non-Blackberry phone and give me more options. I agree with the editors; the on/off/sleep button is almost impossible to push, and becomes more so if you add a protective gel skin to the back. I'm a little sorry I didn't wait for the 4G model, but I didn't know it was coming. I haven't tried using it with the mobile hotspot on my Palm, but I'm sure that will be a viable alternative. New apps appear pretty much daily, so I'm hopeful that what is mostly a toy at this point will become more and more useful over time. I went with max capacity to ensure that I'd have room for all the apps necessary to customize it to my needs.
The touch screen is just a bit more sensitive around the edges than I'd like. It's a little frustrating, especially during game play, to make a move and have the tab minimize unexpectedly because I went a hair over the bottom line. On the other hand, that quick response is really nice when I'm working multiple tabs to search, email, and play a boredom-breaking game at the same time. I'm sure eventually I'll get used to that sensitivity. Just watch out for games with movements near the edges of the screen.
Speaking of games, the ones available are getting better all the time. That's certainly a plus. Now if someone would add a few really awesome apps in news, stock market, phone-link, and photo-upload (Google's Picasa would be a nice one, thanks) and more user-friendly RSS readers, this tablet will be a force to contend with. -

by sAiLoR48 on July 5, 2011
Pros: love the size
feels solid
OS seems to be mostly bug free
Blackberry Bridge(a necessary addition)
can access your bb's web browser(if u have a bb currently , no need for a 4g model, unless u want the speed on the go)Cons: LACK OF APP SUPPORT(knew that going in thought)
