The good: The Nexus 7 features a sharp screen, a comfortable design, and great battery life at a low starting price. Android 4.2 adds some welcome and useful features.
The bad: Android still needs more tablet-optimized apps, newer games have frame rate issues, and HSPA+ speeds seem particularly location-dependent.
The bottom line: With its excellent design, useful software features, and low starting price, the Nexus 7 is the cheapest way to experience the best that the Android OS has to offer.

Quadcore processor in a tablet! It's simply astounding
by thoth242 on December 23, 2012
Pros: This thing is blazing fast because of its Quad-core, with a 12 core video unit, and a 5th shadow processor core that is extremely battery efficient. It also has
a gorgeous screen to mate the beautiful graphics the Nvidia Tegra unit will put out.Cons: No SD slot, but with dropbox and all the other 'cloud' type data syncing and sharing do we really need expandable space anymore?
Summary: This quad-core powered tablet is quite simply a game-changer that eats ipads for breakfast.

Summary: The only reason not to buy this is if you are locked into the Apple ecosystem and want to avoid the Google eco system. Apple are still playing catch up with that. Cheap price may put off snobs who want a premium brand to be expensive.
To be perfect it needs a SD card and a camera.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Been using for 3 weeks now and have only used my "larger tablet" twice in that time. Everything is very fast _ connects to WiFi and loads web pages in flash, handles new apps really well and everything works great - I have often bought new gadgets which were dissappinting after a few days, this isn't one of them - no regrets :)
BTW - my Nexus 7 is the 32G which is selling at the price of the 16G if you look round.

Summary: My advice, in the for what the worth department, is not to get too swept up in the hype and glowing reviews, and to rather wait a bit. I'm not so sure the quality is keeping pace with the order requests, because Google appears to be getting a lot of returns. My unit had extremely poor RX/TX sensitivity, refusing to connect to a router if it were more than about 15 feet away, which made it virtually unusable. And it's a big hassle to return crap to Google (they still haven't shipped my replacement unit a week later) and charge, at their pleasure, a restocking fee if you decide you want your money back rather than a replacement unit. If you do buy this, I'd recommend getting it in a store locally with a GREAT return policy (think Costco), because you just be doing what I'm doing--which is wishing I'd spent a little more and bought an Ipad.
Sorry for the sloppy editing--I remember now, no post-edits on CNET! So please, it's "in the 'for what it's worth department'," and "you might just be doing what I'm doing." Locally (I'm in Hawaii), OfficeMax seems to have lots of these things, so if you want one, you might check them out. My replacement shipped today, about one week following the return so I'll update on how it works in a few days.

Thanks
Updated on Sep 13, 2012I received the new Nexus 7 today which fired right up and saw 10 or 15 networks--more than my Kindle or laptop--and appears to run very well. The round trip was about 2 weeks but at last it's up and humping and I'm happy. So please bump by rating to a 4/5, the highest I could give anything after going 1 for 2.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I bought a 16G Nexus 7 mostly for the price. I'd love to have a new iPad, but can't justify the cost. Obviously what you get for the price is the best that is available right now. It's no surprise that this device works well with Google's services (for eBooks, Movies, Docs, Photos, Social Networking), but I don't use any of them. The screen is crystal clear, and the touch screen operation is wonderful! The performance is very fast, compared to other tablets I have used. Jelly Bean is much better than previous versions of Android that I have used, and feels much more reliable than the past.
Another con is that there are many apps on Google Play that are not compatible with the Nexus 7. This was a surprise to me.
In general, the device lives up to it's hype and specs, with the exception of battery life. My battery seems to be running short of the advertised
I didn't mind that the Nexus 7 didn't have SD Card support, or that it didn't have HDMI output, etc., because I figured there would be a host of accessories available sooner or later. Right now, there is no way to get data onto the tablet without using another device to upload things to the cloud, then download them to the Nexus 7. And there is no way to view content from the tablet, except from it's own screen (there is no dock, etc.). Even though the screen is very nice, it is not a very good eBook reader (which is true of most tablets too). On the good side, games are better than on my phone, and can Tweet, check Facebook, and surf the web on a device that is easier to use than the phone. In general, I like it, and I'm enjoying it, but for now it's just a toy, and not a real tool that is helping me in some dramatic new way. It certainly beats the Kindle Fire hands down, and I'm sure Apple is running scared (not because of this device, but for what's coming after tons of people have this device, and the Android devices to come). For now, in my opinion, Apple still wins on ease of use and having broad industry and accessory support, but I can't afford to get a new iPad today.
I'll keep the Nexus 7, and hope that a crop of accessories come out soon, so I can start using for something more than casual entertainment.
