The good: The Nexus 7 features a sharp screen, a comfortable design, and great battery life at a low starting price. Android 4.2 adds some welcome and useful features.
The bad: Android still needs more tablet-optimized apps, newer games have frame rate issues, and HSPA+ speeds seem particularly location-dependent.
The bottom line: With its excellent design, useful software features, and low starting price, the Nexus 7 is the cheapest way to experience the best that the Android OS has to offer.

I was bummed and excited to hear Asus was making the first true "Google" tablet. Excited because I knew the price was going to be competitive but bummed because I knew the quality and look would be poor. No one is going to deny that Asus makes value based computers that aren't always high quality. The Nexus 7 isn't any different. For $200+ it's a great value because you get an HD screen, quad core, 12 core CPU, and Android Jelly Bean, but you also might get a defective warping screen, or a bleeding screen, or defective speakers. I have had two Nexus's one that was perfected and I returned because I dropped and Gamestop was nice enough to give me a replacement but the second one has slight light bleeding in the lower left hand corner and sometimes has a slight refresh problem.
Apple is on top right now but there are a few things Steve Jobs had no idea what he was talking about and that mainly deal with size. Maybe Jobs had a ***** complex when it came to tablets because 7" hands down makes a better tablet size. The iPad is great and arguably is the best tablet money can buy but is a pain to hold. reading or viewing movies for a long time becomes a burden compared to holding a feather light tablet such as the Nexus 7 and yes 7" is enough. Remember it's how you use it not how big it is.
Asus and Google managed to pop in NFC, bluetooth, wifi, and GPS for $200+ which is nice but a 3G/4G model would have put the icing on the cake for me. In my opinion NFC is a waste for now.
The front camera is okay. It sounds better on paper than it performs in real life. The iPad 2's front camera out performs this but what to expect when the tablet is half the price of the new iPad.
16GB is a must unless your just doing reading, email, and surfing the web. Most high end games take almost a gig of memory and since Google is showing this as a gaming tablet of sorts 8GB is too low. I almost filled by 16GB in 2 days. The low memory would be okay if they added a memory card slot but typical of a Nexus device there is not.
The performance is great. It's not buttery smooth but similar to what I get with my Galaxy Nexus. The quad core and 12 core gpu are greta for high end games and I can finally play riptide at a decent frame rate.
In my opinion as great as a $200+, 7", Jelly Bean tablet is, there is not real killer feature that makes me grab it over my Galaxy Nexus. If the phone had 4G I think the possibilities of the device would open up more. I have been tethering it with my phone but that's not the same.2 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I migrated from the original Kindle and this is a new and better world and experience. I was amazed and surprised at my great leap forward in tablets. It is better than I could imagine.
I use all Google products so this is now the greatest mobile experience I have ever had. Took about 1.25 hours from first turning it on and playing with it to having all the basic Google apps loaded and working.
I still use a desktop or laptop for my work, but use the Nexus 7 at night to watch YouTube, documentaries, read a book, check email, etc. Works just great for that. I got the 16GB which is more than enough for what I use it for.
We bought the Acer C7 Chromebook earlier this year to use at night also. I reviewed that highly also on CNET. I am very happy with both the Nexus 7 and the C7 Chromebook. We use them continuously in the evenings at home plus still use the old Kindle.
I have taken the Nexus 7 and C7 Chromebook with me and hopped on public WiFi with no problems. That is all I personally want as I don't want or need to be continuously connected via cell signal. -
Functionally excellent, except camera, but too fragile.
by gkoulomz on April 3, 2013
Pros: Functionality is excellent, except for camera.
Cons: 1) The glass screen broke much too easily, within a week.
2) Repair was WAY too expensive - 75% of purchase price!!!!!
3) Repair too WAY too long, about 6 weeks.
4) The front facing camera is REALLY low quality; NO rear facing camera.Summary: Forget about pictures, even over the shoulder.
Treat it with kid gloves.

Summary: Purchased 32gb unit and was very happy, then it simply stopped working after 4 days. Received an RMA for warranty repair and spend $12.95 to ship back since I was denied shipping reimbursement. "Free" shipping label then arrived from ASUS the day after I shipped back. Nine days later the repaired/replaced unit arrives packed with no protection and a cracked screen. After an hour on the phone begging to get something for my $250 I have to take photos of the crack and packing and send in to get an RMA. Still have no unit, I greatly prefer this operating system but if I could just get my money back I'd go buy and Apple mini so I could have something that works. I've spent far more time on warranty run around then I have using the unit. FYI my wife's lowly rated Lenovo 9 inch tablet with the same processor works like a dream.

Summary: This is a great tablet for the price. It is loaded with features, stays up to date with the latest version of android, has a very nice screen, is quick, and will do anything just about any users want of it. The GPS receiver is also very strong.
I purchased my first one and was happy with it, but after the first time it took a hard rapid (de)acceleration (I had it in a Pelican Case), it would no longer turn on. Everyone else I know that has been in that situation has not had any problems with any other type of tablet. Turns out that the "device won't turn on any more" is a very common issue with the device. I turned it back in and got a new one, which I immediately had constant difficulties with the WiFi and would have to turn it off then back on every 1-2 minutes. I decided this is not the tablet for me and took it back. I will either buy a Samsung or wait and test out the new Nexus 7.7 when it comes out. -
the nexus 7 is a very powerful tablet
by itfox on March 22, 2013
Pros: features, fast processor, newest jelly bean software
Cons: Only major con is a software glitch that causes the machine to not charge if you accidentally let the battery run too low...google has known about this issue and in 6 months they have done nothing to fix this bug.
Summary: This is a very nice tablet, if google would fix the charging issue I would say it would be the best tablet on the market, but since they have done ...
Summary: This is a very nice tablet, if google would fix the charging issue I would say it would be the best tablet on the market, but since they have done nothing to fix this I have to say I prefer the ipad over the nexus. When or if google ever fixes the charging issue i will update my review to show the fix!!!

Summary: I have to be honest about it, the only bad thing that for me is a big deal is google support I have called 3 times, they were very nice, but this people did not no nothing on how to used the tablet, and I another dummy that dont nothing or much about android really having a hard time, but I am writing today to let you know that the microphone on the nexus is much better and havent make no mistake when I ask any question, my new galaxy s3 it really makes a lot of mistakes, I only wish if anyone can send me an email to let me know were I cant get some help on line.

Good product, but support need a great deal of work.
by cjdel on March 18, 2013
Pros: Great size, screen clarity is great, feels firm and response is good also.
Cons: When it doesn't work, as my audio jack failed after about a month, support is absolutely horrible. Asus never even notified me that they received the product let alone update me on a status. After well over a month I get "they should be done soon".
Summary: If you get one with no issues you'll be quite pleased with this item. However should anything go wrong and you have to get support you'll wish you'...
Summary: If you get one with no issues you'll be quite pleased with this item. However should anything go wrong and you have to get support you'll wish you'd purchased anything but. No notification that they received my product, no update as to the progress, and after well over a month of having it for repair all they can say is "they should be done soon". I had considered purchasing the Nexus 10 for myself (the Nexus 7 is for my son), however it's obvious to see why I haven't made that purchase. How many months does it take to repair your product? I didn't purchase a Nexus 7 for it to sit in a repair facility. My son vaguely even remembers having it.
