The good: The Nexus 7 features a sharp screen, a comfortable design, and great battery life at a low starting price. Android 4.2 adds some welcome and useful features.
The bad: Android still needs more tablet-optimized apps, newer games have frame rate issues, and HSPA+ speeds seem particularly location-dependent.
The bottom line: With its excellent design, useful software features, and low starting price, the Nexus 7 is the cheapest way to experience the best that the Android OS has to offer.

Good product, but support need a great deal of work.
by cjdel on March 18, 2013
Pros: Great size, screen clarity is great, feels firm and response is good also.
Cons: When it doesn't work, as my audio jack failed after about a month, support is absolutely horrible. Asus never even notified me that they received the product let alone update me on a status. After well over a month I get "they should be done soon".
Summary: If you get one with no issues you'll be quite pleased with this item. However should anything go wrong and you have to get support you'll wish you'...
Summary: If you get one with no issues you'll be quite pleased with this item. However should anything go wrong and you have to get support you'll wish you'd purchased anything but. No notification that they received my product, no update as to the progress, and after well over a month of having it for repair all they can say is "they should be done soon". I had considered purchasing the Nexus 10 for myself (the Nexus 7 is for my son), however it's obvious to see why I haven't made that purchase. How many months does it take to repair your product? I didn't purchase a Nexus 7 for it to sit in a repair facility. My son vaguely even remembers having it.

Excellent tablet.
by Seihaku on March 5, 2013
Pros: Snappy performance
Nice screen
Responsive touch screen
Loud speaker
Good quality ecosystem
Regular updatesCons: Some Apps aren't quite up to their iOS counterparts yet (though Spotify is actually superior here).
7" size is handy but the 16:9 AR can be a little odd sometimes.
Some minor bugs with charging
Tegra 3 shows its age with some games

Summary: I generally use this for basic work, web browsing and watching movies on flights. For all those it's phenomenal - very quick and responsive and very stable. I've run into a couple bugs, but they all have to do with the device when the battery is fully discharged so I have no major complaints. It occasionally goes into a deep sleep mode after the battery dies requiring the user to hold Power + Vol Down to get a hard reset going but that isn't such a big deal. I've noticed framerate skips on a few games here and there but basically no complaints.
In general I'm very happy with the device, for the price you basically cannot beat it, and it all around works tremendously well. -
Beautiful display and user friendly.
by GTIguy133 on March 2, 2013
Pros: Light weight, easy to hold for long periods. Like the Google apps. Holds charge for several days. Draws me away from IOS.
Cons: Needs expandable memory. Glass screen is very vulnerable I and many users have experienced broken screens which are way TOO expensive to repair.
Summary: Much better resolution than iPad Mini and a bargain price for all you get.

Love the form factor and zip of the Nexus 7.
by tonyrosa on February 27, 2013
Pros: Size, weight, speed, access to Google Play and apps. The screen is fantastic!. I used my Nexus for all surfing and media consumption exclusively. Took me from the computer back to the family :)
Cons: Unfortunately, the screen went white after two weeks and ASUS has not provided an ETA of repairs, they have had it for three weeks. ASUS defect rate and non-existent customer service.
Summary: When it worked, it was a dream. Manufacturer and and customer support is a disaster. I am surprised Google lends its name to such a poor client experience. I would ...

Well, after much complaining, ASUS sent me a replacement (refurbished) device. It is as good as I remember it and I hope this one lasts longer than 14 days. Thanks for letting me rant.

Cannot hear anything if there is any background noise.
by JimBob233 on February 24, 2013
Pros: Great GPS, fast, nice graphics
Cons: Support from Asus simply does not acknowledge inherent problems in spit of hundreds of complaints on sites on the Internet about low headphone volume.
Summary: I have a Sony S and am very pleased with it. The Nexis 7 is faster, greater graphics. The GPS connects as opposed to the S. Connects fast with satellites ...

HOWEVER
You cannot move documents between it and anything connected to the micro USB port. I have no problems with the Sony tablet moving documents to or from the tablet from USB flash drives or SD cards. Not so with the Nexus where you cannot move anything between them - nice job google?
Much more of a problem, the sound volume on headphones is ridiculous. I had this for several months and then took it on a trip to Mexico. In the plane with the numerous headphones we tried you simply cannot hear sounds on movies, podcasts or music. We never have had a problem with hearing things with the same headphones on other equipment. There are numerous posts on the internet on this Nexus 7 problem.
DO NOT BUY THIS if you ever want to listen to anything unless you are in a very very quite room. It simple is useless for sound on the street, a bus or a plane. Asus's brilliant suggestions have been to restore the tablet, to buy a blue tooth headphone or return the tablet to them. I did the first and it did not work. I am not going to buy a blue tooth headphone and returning it to them is not going to solve anything because they have not spent the time to identified a fix. I believe it is a software problem. Again do not by this until they find a fix. -
Hardware good, open source bad.
by SirCharlesKills on February 23, 2013
Pros: -The hardware and performance are very good, not the best but good.
-Screen looks well dispite software shortcomings.Cons: -There is just so much junk in the open source market. Would be better if there was some sort of real standard here.
Summary: Good if you like spending your time moding and hacking to a degree. Not the easyist tablet in world to use, but that is the trade off for open source.

A big Android phone (without the phone)
by bobinsonoma on February 20, 2013
Pros: I like Android so this device works well for me. Nice screen. Usable size.
Cons: I have two of these. Both have an issue after recharging (heat related?). The device often won't turn on unless you do a hard reset by pressing both the on/off and volume buttons simultaneously for ten seconds. Not a big deal once I figured this out.
Summary: Would be nice to have a real camera and an SD card slot, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Loved it as first, and then battery & OS issue,
by _su_root on February 14, 2013
Pros: Lots of "free" apps. Great for certain games, as my son said: the original ipad is too big, the iPhone is too small, the nexus is just right for Need for Speed, Most Wanted.
Cons: Lots of paid "Pro apps". Interface clunky, not as intuitive. issues with misbehaving OS and battery. Not as polished and user friendly as Apple iOS. Slow to address and fix major issues.
Summary: To see how the other half lives, definitely not for the tech-challenged crowd. My next tablet is iPad mini 2nd gen.

Product is buggy and good luck with support.
by dale_allen on February 13, 2013
Pros: I have not seen any pros as it is a buggy product. Wait until you get the dreadful nexus 7 will not boot issue. Good luck calling google for help as they will not. Mine was a little over 1 month old when this happened. so much for warranty.
Cons: can it get any worst than the pros
Summary: I would never recommend this product to anyone that needs to rely on it to function. Please buy a product that they will support you on.
