The good: The Nexus 7 features a sharp screen, a comfortable design, and great battery life at a low starting price. Android 4.2 adds some welcome and useful features.
The bad: Android still needs more tablet-optimized apps, newer games have frame rate issues, and HSPA+ speeds seem particularly location-dependent.
The bottom line: With its excellent design, useful software features, and low starting price, the Nexus 7 is the cheapest way to experience the best that the Android OS has to offer.

This little sucker packs big a punch!
by CS9791 on July 18, 2012
Pros: Discreet device with an eccentric hardware setup. Seamless interface with good hardware to allow for smoother interaction with device. I am able to run multiple hardware intensive applications without worrying about lagging on the O/S interface.
Cons: No 4G connection is a bummer but not a deal breaker. Besides that, an Excellent buy for the money.

Summary: For $199.00/$250.00 price tag, this was the deal of the year. You get so much for what you pay for it almost makes you feel like you are stealing from Google and Asus. I have used both Android and IOS devices in the past and have always conceded to IOS for there smoothness, however, this little Nexus 7 monster tears down those biases by giving me a user experience I will never forget.
I have run setups for businesses using Google Apps on all varieties of tablets. This was one of the smoothest setups I have ever done. E-mail, calendar, contacts and docs all synchronized with little effort on multiple accounts. Watched two 1.5 hour videos, played Angry Birds space, Sonic Lite, and used Pocket Cloud to remote to a server and I still had plenty of battery left.
You cannot go wrong. I am buying the second one for my wife who refuses to use anything other than Apple products. She played with the Nexus for a while and was highly impressed. In essence, she felt comfortable using the device. They really nailed it on the head with the small form factor. I bought this product and was initially disappointed that there would not be a larger 10 inch model, however, I quickly found out that I would rather use a smaller device that is comfortable and works seamlessly. The Nexus 7 is that device.12 out of 12 users found this user opinion helpful.

No SD slot makes this device a Triple, not a Home Run.

While I realize that the point of this tablet is to get people to rely on the Google Play Store, the inability to put my own music/videos/pictures on an SD card and pop it in and go makes me question purchasing this device.
I know that Google wants everyone to use the "Cloud", but that always isn't a viable option for some of us. Some of us live in places where internet service is spotty at best and the Cloud is unusable. And if you live in Hurricane Alley where the power tends to go out due to mother nature on a regular basis, keeping all of your entertainment in the cloud instead of on your device where you can actually use it is a laughable suggestion.
It comes down to this: Android devices with SD option provide maximum flexibility without the need to be tethered to a Cloud or music program like iTunes. That's why I have an android phone and not an iPhone. The lack of expansion possibility, though meant to drive consumers to Google's ecosystem, is a poorly thought out reminder that while Google claims to be different from Apple, when it comes to making money, they have no problem copying Apple's closed system strategy. This very strategy is one of the reasons some people eschew Apple's products for Android. The ability to choose for yourself what media you'll have on your device, and how you will put it on there. When coming out into the dog-eat-dog world of the tablet market, Google REALLY needed to hit a home run with this device. Time will tell if only getting a triple will do.8 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: Perfect tool for people who have "gonegoogle" creating a mobile device to surf the pantheon of Google offerings creating a seamless online experience in the world of Google Apps and cloud based entertainment, media, and date storage.
Cons: Apple will not like this.

No "Buyer's Remorse" on this tablet purchase!
by DigitalSlimJim on November 20, 2012
Pros: -You always have the latest Android updates!
-It's thin and light.
-Screen's color and brightness is great, despite photos I saw in reviews before purchase.
-$249 for 32GB is a no-brainer purchase
-Multi-functional
-It's fastCons: -Can't find an Adobe Flash plugin for the latest Jelly Bean 4.2 yet, but hey, it just came out two days ago.

Summary: My wife and daughter have Kindle Fire tablets. Those are fine for just reading books, but you are locked into a hacked up Android OS. The Nexus 7 is great for reading books, too, and is lighter to hold in one hand. You will get longer life out of the Nexus due to Google designing Android updates to be compatible with them. My daughter wants my Nexus now.
I wasn't sure if a 7" tablet is what I wanted, but this is a fantastic tablet. You can throw it in a bag and go. It automatically connects to any previous wireless connection when it gets in range. I pull up in the driveway and hear a little chime ping from my bag indicating connectivity.
TIP: Buy a "Blurex Ultra-Slim Case for Google Nexus 7 inch Tablet -- with built in Multi-Angle Stand". This case is extremely thin and protects the corners. Paired together, this is an excellent combination. You will love this, trust me.
I use this for a variety of things. I'm an IT guy, so I use it as my on-the-go computer, diagnostic device, entertainment playing Star Wars Angry Birds, surfing the web, reading, watching movies while traveling, sending/receiving email using multiple accounts. I have OfficeSuite Pro on it so I can open and save .DOCX, .XLSX, and other MS Office formats. My next purchase will be a portable Bluetooth keyboard to expand its functionality even more.
BTW, not having a camera on the back is really no big deal. How many pictures have you taken with any "tablet"? I use my phone and send them over using Bluetooth. You can also download the Amazon AppStore app if you are wondering.
Compared to other tablet prices, especially the iPad mini, this is a steal for what you get. I love mine!5 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Best believe this bad boy can keep up with anything your gonna throw at it... movies, music, games, or even some sick multitasking games/music/surfing the net. sureeee it dosent have an SD slot but thats Google way of making bit of money off this. Its a 200 tablet with spec's that put others to shame. Its not like its an ipad worth 600 and still no SD. 16 GB for this price is great for what ima be using it for... and that's everything. Maybe later they can offer an 32 GB one though even at 300 and i wont mind buying.

Summary: I'm a Mac user with a Windows Phone and didn't think much of Android after a bad experience with a gingerbread phone. I came back to Android cautiously and with lowered expectations simply because the Nexus 7 seemed like too much of a bargain to pass up. I was VERY pleasantly surprised with what I found. Android seems to have improved dramatically since the last device I used, which is good to see. I was also comfortable with this device because it's a Nexus product, so there is no OEM shovelware heaped on it or crappy UI skins to slow it down. It's just pure, unadulterated Android and it's great. After hating Android for 2 years, this fantastic product brought me back into the fold. Thank you Asus and Google for delivering the best tablet for the money the world has ever seen. I just love this thing. Performance is very good, the capabilities make my friend's iPad mini seem like an etch-a-sketch by comparison. The battery life is impressive. Build quality is better than it has any right to be for a $199 device. They really raised the bar here. I am so pleased I'm recommending these to everyone I know.

Do you really take your tablet out to take photos with?

Summary: Upon unboxing this (LOL, no it ddn't take me s long to do it as shown in the Unboxing a Nexus 7 is fun Montage video), I was prompted to download the Android 4.1.1 OTA Patch update, which fixed up a few Software issues and added Google Wallet to the device. Since then, I've downloaded apps on this on a slow WiFi at work in a matter of 2-3 seconds flat. And we're talking about sizeable files for Tablet and Mobile Apps here, which on 3G on my Android Gingerbread phone will take upto 10-10 seconds to load, occasionally more. And for the early adopters, you get a Free Google Play Credit of USD $25, which gets initialized upon signing into the device and into your Google Account. The Store will also load the Free copy of Transformers Dark Of The Moon into your Account and this will be stream-able from your other Androids as well.
Apologies for the typos. Addressing what many users are dinging as Cons for this device, No SD/Micro SD Card Slot, no HDMI and No Backside Camera:
1. Seriously, how many of you will take a device greater than 7" in size outdoors with you to snap photos. Think about it! Most Tablets that have the camera, the resolution will not be that good to start with, plus there is usually no flash. So what is the point? This tablet was meant to be a media consumption device, similar to the likes of Amazon Kindle Fire, which by the way, IMHO is useless in front of this device. You atleast have the FFC to do things like Video talk over GTalk chat or Skype so stop complaining please folks! The Amazon Kindle Fire is severely lacking on this end!
2. No SD/Micro SD Slot: People! Use Cloud Services! That's what they are there for. This will likely be the wave of the future. Google offers Drive for free and provides you with 5 GB to start with. I got lucky and signed up for Pogoplug from CNET when they had a limited time promotion to sign up for 10 GB for free. Not only do I have a backup space here, I can sync stuff via this method from my PC to the Tablet. Consequently, I've built up 15 GB of Cloud Storage space here to have my documents on to alleviate the constraints that may prevail way down in the future for my device. And ofcourse, if I should need more, then I can always find other Clouds to work with to mitigate this.
3. No HDMI output to TV: Have you ever heard of DLNA (Dynamic Link Network Alliance) Protocol? It's the wave of the future through which Wireless Audio and Video Streaming is enabled. Tell me seriously, who all hard connects their device till today for this purpose these days? Not many especially if you have a TV/Smart TV with DLNA Built In and Ready to go. Just set it up that way and you will accomplish what you need to stream media from your mobile or tablet to the TV.
All you haters dinging it here need to know more about before bashing in haste. Seriously! Don't hesitate folks! Get yours today! Well worth the money!

Summary: I bought this at a time where i was starting to get interested in tablets, but could not afford a IPad nor a different 10 Inch Android Tablet. I looked at the Kindle Fire, which in my mind still wasn't good enough and other 7 inch Tablets (IPad Mini was not released at the time) Most of which had Ok reviews. When i heard of the Nexus 7 and its strong reviews, i decided to pick one up.
I now use a app called Memory Booster, i recommend it because it has removed any lag from the tablet and makes it even faster.
The Nexus experience was something different, new and i liked it. It does everything it says and works great. The only problem i have with it is the fact that it still lags (a little bit) But project butter has improved my overall opinion towards Android.
If you cant afford the IPad Mini or some other Tablet, the Nexus is the way to go

Pros: -Great display with a great resolution.
-Insanely fast Tegra processor.
-Plenty of RAM.

-Does not feature an SD card slot. HOWEVER you can use a USB host cable and connect up to 32gb flash drives.

One of the key ...Summary: The Nexus 7 is something that you don't really come by often. A great little 7" tablet that actually functions like a higher-end $400 one.
I've experimented and it DOES charge via USB on your computer, but you MUST turn down the clockrate if you overclocked it and you MUST turn down the brightness.
One of the key things I've always wanted in deciding on a tablet is price. I haven't been impressed by tablets enough in the past to spend over $200, that is until I heard about the Nexus 7.
Another thing I look for is a good modding community. The Nexus 7 has quite a few custom kernels for it that allow you to overclock it. Some people report getting it as high as 2 GHz, but I settled on 1.8 GHz. (Overclocking voids warranty and it puts your hardware at risk if you don't know what you're doing.)
The Nexus 7 does have downfalls, however. The one that bothers me most is how it doesn't charge when connected to a computer. This is vital to me because when I'm at my desk I use my USB ports to charge my devices. The standard 5v that a computer USB port puts out simply doesn't stand up to this device. Various sources say you must disable anything running and turn down the brightness, but I'd like to use this when at work at my desk as well.
The other big problem is that it doesn't feature any kind of expandable memory slot. You CAN use USB OTG, but that requires buying a host cable.
The last big issue is the touch screen responsiveness. While it is extremely sensetive, sometimes you'll have to tap twice to get something to register. It may be a software issue, I'm not 100% sure.
If you're looking to get into the tablet market but aren't too sure, give this a go. I picked mine up for $250.
