Summary: I just got mine 111, and i love it. I had a Palm III for 5 years, so this is a big upgrade. So far I haven't found anything to complain about. I wouldn't take the guys opinion about miss placing his stylus, and HP not having a replacement. Hes not going on how well the PDA works, just his problem finding a replacement. You can use other PDA stylus.
So I figure if you are looking for a good PDA, easy to set up, ie wi-fi, email etc. this would be the one for you. I had a problem with the cd, it kept saying that I needed adobe flash 8 or higher, and I had 9 installed. So the cd didn't work, but I fixed that by downloading the program I needed from windows website, and my active sync worked fine. I'm sure there are others just as good or better, but the price is reasonable, and the PDA dependable.7 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

Awesome tool for the business owner

Summary: The iPAQ 111 is a great handheld. I previously owned a Tungsten E2. The 111 has a much faster processor and is easier to set up and use. I especially like the letter recognizer for text entry. It is more user friendly than the E2, and has a word completion option that makes note taking like writing on paper. There is also a draw option that allows you to draw a diagram right in your notes, again just like writing on paper. The bluetooth technology allows me to connect my stereo headset for tunes and allows me to workout, listen, and log my workout entries without carrying a seperate notebook. The 111 also allows me to upload my favorite photos and videos, and allows me to read and create email on the fly. The note feature also allows me to voice record a memo or conversation allowing me to take more thorough notes later. Way to go HP, this is a great unit for the price.

Pros: Windows platform better than Palm OS. Great resoultion. Syncing is easier than Palm OS. Light weight. Built in Wi-Fi.
Cons: None thus far, but is a bit light which gives it the appearane of not being rugged.

Summary: After 10 years of using Palm products, I made the switch to an iPAQ and am sorry I didn't switch sooner. Was using the Palm TX, but I find the iPAQ easier to use and makes connecting to the internet much more simpler than the TX. A very solid product!

Summary: I have been a PALM PDA user for years, and just recently 'converted' from a Palm T/X to this unit, with NO regrets. The Windows Mobile 6.0 software is so much nicer to navigate than the Palm OS, and is more intuitive, and file transferring is much easier. One huge difference is the Marvell 624 MHzXScale processor, offering twice the speed of the Palm T/X which was most noticeable when sending/receiving e-mail, internet browsing, and even in device synchronization via Active Sync. I am using the HP Bluetooth foldable keyboard for data input and have no issue with it or tethering it to the iPAQ. The display seems brighter/clearer than the Palm, and it is lighter as well. There are to many other 'betterments' to mention here, but suffice it to say I'm thrilled to have made the switch, and don't think you can go wrong with this device.

the buck stops here...

Pros: well rounded, simple, solid, sleak, slim, sexy, fast, great performer
Cons: wouldn't mind 128MB RAM, bluetooth acts a little quirky at times
Summary: I don't usually put my opinion into these things, but I have to stick up for this lovely pocket pc.

I've had about 6 pdas in the past 2 years and I have to say this one has my preference. It's just a solid, well rounded pda. It has all the features a person needs in a handheld and it just performs well. And it's totally inexpensive.
It's fast, slim, the screen is great and it looks good. I've thrown about ten programs into it and a bunch of other crap and it doesn't skip a beat. I've had no trouble with sync or anything.
Windows Mobile 6 is also way better than WM5.
I admit there is not a whole lot of accessories out for this pda (ie. stylus), but it's only been around a few months. These ipaq 110's are ubiquitous already - anyone smart would see a business opportunity here. I would love it if I could get it with 128MB of RAM too.
Using the bluetooth I find that sometimes the ipaq icon on the today screen doesn't light up green when it's on like it should. I've had some other odd little bluetooth things happen too...
Whatever, thank God for this pda...3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great when it worked, but unreliable
by mcmircle on April 6, 2008

Summary: I bought this iPAQ 111 on 12/27/07. By mid-March, it could not hold a charge and was not syncing properly. HP replaced the battery. Still could not connect reliably to computer. HP replaced the cable. Still would switch from my user profile to "guest" for no apparent reason. Data began to disappear while iPAQ was turned off for a couple of hours. Tech support said it was probably the motherboard.
Sent in for repair. iPAQ returned 3 days later with no indication of testing or work done. NO documentation at all. Next day, sync problems, but software functioned. 2 days, all software had completely disappeared from the device overnight as it lay on my nightstand, not plugged into anything (no reduction in remaining battery life). Tech support said that the repair staff "could not duplicate the problem". I never had these problems with Palm or Handspring devices, which I've used for at least 7 years.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Excellent Piece Of Technology

Summary: This piece of technology is excellent. It has so many features: connectivity to the internet, its 3 screen orientations (portrait, landscape left and landscape right), the software is pretty good, the available slot for a SD memory card is great,it comes with some nice accessories. If you lose or misplace your stylus, you can use any other stylus available or the tip of any pointed object; I would not use a working ink pen though. Search around and find a good price. I recommend this piece of excellent technology.

Can't sync with my Palm Tungsten W data. So frustrated.
by confusedgramma on November 20, 2010
Pros: Haven't been able to use it yet because I can't sync any of my Palm data. Will come back and add to this section when/if I get it working.
Cons: I wrote to HP before purchasing this item to specifically ask if my old Palm Tungsten W data would sync onto this new unit. The agent confirmed that it would be no problem. Not so!

Summary: I read a lot of reviews prior to purchasing this product. Never once did I read that I had to use Outlook. Also, many of the reviewers said they were able to sycn with their old Palms. That's really what sold me on buying this unit. I don't really need, nor want, to use the phone capacity, and this was the closest to basic that I could find. But after three days of looking for directions and/or information on how to sycn it with my Palm data, I cannot find anything on how to do this. I want to keep this handheld, but - can't use it right now unless someone can tell me how to retrieve my data. Help!

good product. is better than with my sony pda
by stimpy1234 on December 31, 2009
Pros: Color screen and the size is great.
Cons: I've had trouble with converting palm info from my vista laptop to this new device. Also battery power is very limited, could be better. Anyone suggest conversion process of palm desktop contacts and calendar to portable?
Summary: I'll keep this pda, although have had trouble with the active sync process and don't know where the information is being stored. There isn't a laptop interface, ...
Summary: I'll keep this pda, although have had trouble with the active sync process and don't know where the information is being stored. There isn't a laptop interface, like the plam desktop, unless I'm mistaken. The CD that came with this was a joke, I had to download the active sync from the HP website.

Helpful for students
by shad0w0lf on January 7, 2009
Pros: Jot down notes, ideas, checklists, things to do in an instant. Really light and thin, rubbery grip on the back. Nice screen. Loud speaker not to mention a 3.5mm headphone jack is awesome. Handy record button. It has office mobile (which is free).
Cons: Ridiculous battery drainage .The keyboard and transcriber are garbage. Yahoo Messenger not available on it (hopefully soon). Active Snyc (the software) + USB dependent.

Summary: In a world where smart phones have practically dominated the mobile market, pda's are practically considered a square wheel to the mass majority of the population. Though some business/education oriented individuals may find this useful in everyday life. For pocket computing over cellphone usage. I recommend this product for you. I have no experience with pdas/ppc, this being my first one. I received this as an xmas gift. And so far after putting freeware in it, i've enjoyed it.
Surfing the net using WiFi is not as fun as doing it on a desktop itself, for those who don't visit java/flash sites much. For people who use messenger and VoIP, there's Window's Live and Skype (which you can install I think). Problem with me is, I only use YM (dominant IM-er of Asia), which I can't find a way to get it in the ipaq111 (atleast in a way that I don't have to pay for it).
I absolutely detest the input in this pda. Mostly because I write like a kindergartener, and the built in keyboard were made for ants. Downloading the PCM keyboard from http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=1940 was helpful for me. That same website is where I found the majority of the free software.
Amazing alarm clock, use any MP3 file (I use Spoon Alarm) to wake up from. Preset audio files are annoying/unexciting.
Games are a bit stale, I downloaded a rubix cube, tetrix imitation, pocket uno, sudoku, and chess to pass time. Thinking games.
I mostly use the notes. Which the 111 saves in .pwi form, if transtered to the desktop, it converts the pwi file to .txt, where you can edit the .txt file on the desktop. When placing the .txt file to the ppc, the ppc wil convert it back to .pwi. All this conversion possible with ActiveSync (this method of conversion is the simplest for me, though there may be other possibilities like commercial programs and copying and pasting).
I haven't used the windows media player to its full extent. I haven't played a movie/mp3s on it, which I don't plan on doing anytime soon. I'm very stingy about the power consumption. Although it probably would be a decent player on the go. With dvix on it as well.
The current PDF reader is hard to work with. You may have to calibrate the zoom quite a few times or press the directional pad quite a few times while reading. The Clearview PDF reader, which comes standard, only reads pdf, not .lit files, so you may have to work around that or find a way to do so.
Well, the freeware is what makes the possibilities of this ppc endless. From scientific/graphical calculators, to conversion calculators, flash cards, etc.
I don't know how much storage this thing can hold, I'm currently using a 2GB.
The battery use, I swear is ghastly. Each time you look at the percentage usage it makes you feel guilty. I've calculated that with every 3-5 minutes of usage the battery power decreases by 1% (the factors being: minimum brightness+quick standy mode+no wifi/bluetooth use+out of the box for 2 weeks) not to mention some power is used.
In conclusion, a few flaws, but even greater possibilities. I'd keep this thing for a few years.
