The good: The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (soon upgradeable to Android 4.0) has a sleek design, a high-quality screen, and well-integrated smart remote-control functionality through the Peel app.
The bad: Peel has limited usefulness if you don't have cable or satellite, and the tablet's screen brightness is comparatively low.
The bottom line: The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is pretty and sleek, with well-implemented remote-control functionality, making it the best 7-inch Honeycomb tablet yet.

This was a surprise birthday present from my wife. I own a Samsung Captivate and love it. I wanted an Asus Transformer Prime (more on that later), but I must say, this was a superb purchase, and it exceeded my expectations. Samsung makes a great product. Here is why you should take a serious look at this tablet.
This tablet has a front camera (2MP) and a rear camera (3MP). My kids and I video chatted with my father via Skype with the front camera, and it worked great. Dad did not complain about the picture or the sound. I used the rear camera to take some pics and some video. The 720p was sharp, and for a tablet/portable device, this is sufficient. Honestly, I don't think that tablets should have rear cameras, mostly because I feel they are a waste. People look ridiculous taking pics with their tablets, in addition, most cell phone cameras are of much better quality anyways. But, hey, if you need it/want it, this works fine.
The processor allows this device to feel snappy and responsive. There is enough RAM for the jobs to get done. However, it does lag if I have too many things running in the back ground. I have the task manager on my home screen, and I usually keep most apps killed this way. The RAM manager also keeps things down and running smooth. I believe that this has more to do with the software than the hardware. The video comes through great. I have watched The Walking Dead on it, as well as some movies (The Dark Knight), with little to no lag.
I do not play many games, I do have Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies, and there were no issues running these games. The screen is crisp and sharp. When compare side by side with the Transformer Prime, I could tell that resolution is 1,024-by-600. However, When watching videos,YouTube, or Skype, this really doesn't bother me. The resolution is great for a portable device. The colors are sharp and easy on the eyes.
The WiFi and GPS work like a champ. I keep the GPS off to preserve battery life, but I encountered no signal problems, or, at least ones caused by the device. I leave the WiFi on all the time. I could turn it off to preserve battery life, but meh. The Bluetooth functions fine as well. I synced a headset with no issues. I played with a Logitech keyboard as well, worked fine. No issues here. The remote feature works as advertised. I had no issue controlling my TV with it. I doubt I will use this much, but hey, it is nice to know it is there and it works.
The battery life is about an hour less than what was advertised, and I again believe this to be software related. There are apps out there to help increase battery life, and they do work. With these apps I can get the advertised battery life.
Apps. This is where I dock a star. I really hate bloatware, and this device has a bunch of it. This is what kills the performance. The Samsung media app is probably good. However, I don't use it. I don't want it. Why I cannot remove software on a device I own bothers me. Ditto for other stuff like MovieFone (AOL? Really? They are still around?). This device would be much better off with out the trash apps.
The packaging was a simple box, no fight to get it open. The battery was a little over 50% when I powered it on for the first time. In the box is also a headset/mic combo that works well. There is a charger/USB cable as well. Fairly straightforward. Unless you need something more, these are adequate.
Other thoughts: I was playing with my friend's Transformer Prime, and we noticed that the quad-core processor didn't really help. I researched a bit on the hard ware, and the Transformer Prime actually has five cores, four of them are high-performance, and one is high-efficiency. The CPU is designed to shutdown the four cores for almost nearly everything, and just use the high-efficiency core in order to save on battery life. We tried to activate the other cores, and for the life of us, we could only get one other core to "activate".
We found that most (if not all) apps are designed to use the one core, so I don't feel I missed out by not receiving the Transformer Prime. When we ran the same tests on this device, we found it to be the same.One core is active and the other stays down to conserve battery life. Granted, the Transformer Prime did feel more responsive, We think this is due to the amount of system RAM.
Unless you really want to e-peen about your processor cores on a tablet, or want to do high end gaming (does that even exist?) on a tablet, there really isn't much of a compelling reason to have more than a dual core processor. The average person does not have the slightest idea how threading works nor why having more cores might be overkill and a waste of money, so why bother?
Bottom line on processors: The whole "core" obsession on mobile devices seems to be nothing but marketing talk. At least, as far as I have been able to determine. The dual-core processor in this device works great!
I wish this device had ICS, the under the hood tweaks there could really help out with the flaws that this device has. 3.2 works great though. Smooth.
Final thought: I was scared that I would have to hide my disappointment from my wife as this was not the tablet I wanted. However, I am convinced. I enjoy this device, and overall it exceeded my expectations. The 7" screen makes it easy to take with me. My employer has a Citrix apps that run like a champ, and I can almost do most of my work that way. It is a slower than a keyboard/mouse, so I won't be doing that unless there is an emergency.
This device is worth you money. I really love the micro SD slot. The 16Gb of storage can be limiting, and this feature hands down helps over come the default storage.

Pros: Portability is key. Functionality is superb. Video and audio quality are excellent. The user experience is exactly what your looking for in a tablet. The preloaded apps were well thought out, leaving me lacking any complaints.

I love the ability to go to the Market and find plenty of content for free! This probably has been the main sticking point in deciding between the two.
Lacks the restrictive nature of the iPad. I am able to do exactly what I could with my PC without the hassle of buying several different apps to accommodate.
The ability to drag and drop is KING! I have at last 10 full length films in HD and it didn't cost me a nickle!

Pros: This tablet has a small footprint, thus it didn't take up a lot of space in my backpack. Great OS (which will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich). One of the fastest processors on the market. This tablet makes an Ipad look slow and cumbersome.
Cons: Typing on a touch screen is a bit more difficult to do vs. a keypad. However, this touch pad is very sensitive and makes a bad situation tolerable because it responds well.

Additionally, I purchased a leather cover that not only protected the tablet, but did not have to be removed for taking videos or pictures. It looked like a small book that I was carrying. The cover also offered an adequate landscape and portrait stand without you having to remove the cover. I forgot the manufacturer's name, but they can be obtained at Amazon and are quite inexpensive (less than $30). I also forgot to bring my USB connection for my Canon camera while on my backpack trip. Consequently, I had a dilemma with regard to uploading pictures during my trip to Face Book, email, etc. However, the problem was solved by using my Samsung Plus for taking pictures and video. The Galaxy Tab Plus took outstanding video and pictures.
This tablet was used for a two-month back pack trip to Central and South America and was exposed to all sorts of environments, including extreme humidity (Panama), cold (Ecuador), rain (Costa Rica), and altitude (Andes).
All in all, this is an absolutely essential device for using on domestic or international trips, where you don't want the weight of a laptop, nor having to haul it out every time you go through airport security. I alluded to this tablet looking like a book (especially when you purchase the leather cover). When you are traveling in South or Central America, this illusion will probably keep you from being robbed, since it does not look like a tablet when you are waking down the street carrying it in your hand. Just sayin' . . .

Summary: Although I bought my wife an iPad2 for Christmas I decided I wanted to buy myself an Android tablet instead. I must have read every on line article and comparison about all of the tablets currently available and those reported to be coming to the market in the near future (CES reports). After endless procrastination I finally decided to just go out and buy a "good" tablet. Once I made that decision I figured that if I was willing to spend $200 for a Kindle Fire (with limited capabilities) I might as well kick in the extra $150 and buy a Samsung Galaxy 7.0 Plus (it was on sale at Best Buy), a tablet that offered much more flexibility than the Kindle.
All I can say is WOW. I could not be happier with my purchase. The Galaxy Plus tablet can do everything my desk top can do, and more. Plus it is portable, light weight, syncs with my desk top and in addition to it's computer functions can be used as an ebook reader, mp3 and video player, remote controller (for certain TV set ups), and so much more.
If you are considering buying a 7" tablet, my advise would be to try them all then buy the one you like best now so you can enjoy it. There is no sense waiting for the "next generation" to be released because there will always be something new (and "better") coming to the market.
Based on my experience, I can highly recommend the Samsung Galaxy 7.0 Plus. To me it represents the perfect combination of size and features.

It's the perfect size for holding in one hand unlike the Ipad and the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The expandable memory is excellent for app junkies. I've heard people complain about battery life, but the battery lasts a long time as long as you manage your apps and don't leave 5 games running at the same time.

It's a great size for on the go. It's great for watching videos or listening to music in the car. My older 2 boys have IPOD touches and I'd buy one of these without question before I'd buy another Touch. It does everything the Touch does and seemingly more as the screen is larger. It's very responsive and we've had no issues with anything, but in particular no issues with crashing, freezing aps, or connectivity. I'd recommend this to family or friend. For the price in the small tablet range, you will not be disappointed with this tablet!

I've had this tablet for a few months and it hasn't frozen on me yet either...I had the iPad for 1 week and it froze 8 times in 7 days which was frustrating. The 7" screen size is wonderful because it's not too big and not too small. If you have a Mifi it gets even better because you can use this tablet on the go (hooking up to the Mifi). Battery life lasts roughly 12 hours. I charge it every 3 days or so unless it needs a charge.
Overall: Wonderful 7" tablet, doesn't freeze up like the iPad did and the battery life is wonderful! -

- Screen resolution is almost the same as iPad (2) but dpi is more hence it's sharper and easier on the eyes.
- Expandable optional storage up to 64Gb via MicroSD card.Cons: - Android OS is very primitive
- Apps are NOT User Friendly compared to Apple iPad's apps which you must FIND to use on tablet!
- Samsung's POOR reputation in customer service/tech support

The same can NOT be said about the Android's OS where users must LEARN how to do things themselves which could take several steps compared to iOS.
Tablets are generally best for online viewing and emailing. Anything else like working on a letter or spreadsheet is a bonus for those that can do it.
This is better than the newer Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" since the newer version, despite having almost all the specs as the 7 Plus, includes a slightly slower processor and downgraded cameras. Once the 7 Plus model gets ICS, this model is expected to BEAT the Tab 2 7" in performance! The price of the 7 Plus has dropped to Below $250 but it's hard to find this model anymore since it's no longer sold. -

Summary: After 3 months with an iPad 2, I gave it to my daughter because I could not handle the weight, it was too unwieldy. I bought the Samsung Galaxy 7.0 Plus in January. I have an Android phone (also Samsung) so I found this tablet simple and quick to set up.
It handles my 150-200 daily work emails effortlessly; I don't use the browser much but have had no problems with it. I am constantly finding newer/better ways to use the tablet. This month it's Dropbox; I love being able to write/edit on my desktop or laptop computer and then via Dropbox I have everything at my fingertips when I'm on the go with my tablet. Its lightweight portability is so much easier on my arthritis than lugging the weight of my MacBook Pro, and it's doing everything I need when away from home. It almost always finds WiFi wherever I am, though I do carry a Verizon MiFi in my purse, so I am connected everywhere I go.
Battery life isn't too bad and I've found ways to improve it by using Watchdog and managing my settings, no auto-updates, etc. It's great as a Kindle reader; it has become my sole news source with the half dozen different news apps I read daily; it has improved my ability to keep up with the trade publications I never have time to read at my desk; it's great for meetings where I want to take notes -- whether by writing, typing, or audio; and it's perfect for Netflix when I'm laying in bed before sleep.
I'm not labeling the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus as the best tablet on the market. To be honest, I loved the iPad 2. But the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus is a better fit for my needs, and I'm happier with it after 6 months than when I first bought it. If you're considering a compact tablet and this one has the features you need, you'll be very happy with it. -
