Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 (16GB) price range: $300.00

The good: The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 packs the full Android Honeycomb tablet experience (soon upgradeable to Android 4.0), along with Samsung's useful customizations, into a compact body.
The bad: The lack of ports on the tablet will be a problem for some and the plastic back leaves the Tab 8.9 feeling less solid than the iPad 2.
The bottom line: The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is everything we loved about the Tab 10.1 in a slightly smaller form, with a slightly smaller price.

Great tablet and super user friendly for women

Summary: This is the tablet I've been waiting for. I do a lot of business travel, I blog, and volunteer with several non-profits. I also prefer to read magazines and newspapers online.
For years, I vacillated over which netbook to purchase because I needed something powerful and portable. I checked out the iPad (and I actually use a work issued one) I feel like it was designed for men. It feels rather clunky and large in my hands plus it's kinda heavy.
I'm so glad that I waited for the Galaxy 8.9 Tablet. It's lightweight and can fit in most average size handbags. I really like the screen resolution and having multiple customizable screens. I'm not a big apps fiend and truthfully, many of the most popular apps are available on Android as well. I plan to purchase the Samsung keyboard so that I use this write.
In terms of cons, this tablet is really expensive given the market demand for smaller tablet pcs. Luckily, I was able to negotiate a package deal for a Samsung phone and this tablet at a reasonable price. Otherwise, I may have waited another year to purchase it or considered an Asus tablet instead. Also, a USB port would have been good.
Lastly, the so-called "Gorilla Glass" on the Galaxy Tab seems to hold fingerprints and smugs far more than the iPad. But, I understand that the Galaxy Tab screen is less likely to break/crack if it falls. I don't plan to test that hypothesis however :-)
Overall, I recommend the Galaxy Tablet 8.9 - especially for women business travelers or anyone who desires a smaller tablet that rivals the power of the iPad.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

1. Audio jack is not meant to be used... it will break in a matter of few times... its base will not support daily usage for more then 2 month.
2. Customer support from Sumsung will force you to wipe a device in order to perform any troubleshooting. (considering that this device is a replacement for all your work and data)
3. Customer support from Sumsung will force you to service a device by shipping it out to support center when they will wipe it and device will be return is same condition without headphone jack working)
4. Sumsung site is not user friendly in order to complete or track any information.

Awesome tablet. Awesome Screen 16:9 1280x800. Great OS.

No HDMI out (although there is a cheap adapter)
Plastic back (however this may help with weight, plus its in a case anyway)

Summary: Screen is awesome at 1280x800 and 16:9 aspect ratio unlike the 4:3 ipad. If you want a lighter tablet without loosing too much real estate like the 7" tablets. Then this is the one. Sure I could have the bigger heavy ipad to compliment my phone, but in all honesty it just felt like I would have been buying the same thing I already have just bigger. I like the Android OS even though it does take a bit more getting used too. But all the apps I use work great on this device.
Also, at $350 at Best Buy this was a great deal.
I already have an iPhone so the iPad seemed like nothing new, just bigger. I love the 8.9 form factor since it lets you hold the tablet with one hand, for reading and browsing. We will get ICS soon and that should make it all the better. I spent 3hrs in the store trying to decide: iPad, Fire, Iconia, 10.1 tab, 7 tab and after all that time this one just made sense. Its lighter, smaller, has a great OS and supports Flash (kids can play Cartoon Network Games). I am disappointed with the lack of SD, but in reality I will never need it all my music is on my phone and home PC. Also could use HDMI out but again not something critical for me.

Well designed tab with great form factor.
by VBnut on November 8, 2011
Pros: 1) Small size and low weight. 2) Impressive screen with resolution of 10.1 tab in smaller space 3) Good battery life
Cons: 1) Stock video app does not work well. 2) Camera adequate, but not great. 3)Need proprietary cable 4) No SD card slot.

Summary: This tab has a great screen and perfect size and weight. The smaller size with a resolution of 1280x800 results in a crisp sharp screen which looks better than the 10.1 version, the iPad, or any other tab I have seen. I can finally read a whole page 2 column PDF without scrolling. It's size allows you to use on screen keyboard as a thumb keyboard unless you have very small hands. The 8.9 is very responsive, although the iPad touchscreen is slightly more responsive. SWIPE keyboard works very well. You can't underestimate the value of how light it is; it makes it very easy to use anywhere and for long periods of time comfortably. It is 25% lighter than iPad2 and fits in a large coat pocket. Battery life is very good. With light use, it will last 12 hours, no problem. With heavy internet use, at least 9 hours. With ripped DVD movies, I see about 8-10% of battery used per hour (using speakers). Stock video player does not work well (especially with movies), but VPlayer works wonderfully even with high def movies with this tablet. Camera is OK, I didn't use this as a negative when rating because, I only use my phone camera. There is no SD slot, but it is worth giving up that feature for the compactness of the device. If you are looking for a light easy to carry tablet that has a great screen and good battery life this tab is for you, I love it.

The tablet I've been waiting for!
by mbsperez on November 5, 2011
Pros: Fantastic display quality that's perfect for reading, incredibly fast and zippy performance, Tegra 2 makes everything shine, wonderful battery life
Cons: Takes rather long to charge (5 hours for full), not too many accessories yet, while it could be cheaper it eventually earns its price

Summary: I've always wanted a tablet that would be ideal for two purposes: reading books and digital comics. The 8.9's display packs in the same pixels as its big 10.1 brother but in a smaller screen, hence making it denser and sharper. Digital comics look just spectacular here and it's smaller size and better weight balance makes it easier to hold for longer periods of time. Reading black text on white is incredibly comfortable too, and I don't encounter the eye strain when reading on an iPad 2.
This is not an office device however. Anyone out to use the 8.9 for work purposes will be wiser to pick up other tablets. But for what I've set it out to do, it works exceptionally well. Anyone already invested in the Android ecosystem (such as I) will feel right at home with the Galaxy Tab.
In addition, several sources have identified the 8.9 (as well as the other tablets and phones in the series) as due for an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in the future. Sounds like a good deal. -
Perfect size, speed, and user experience!! And its sexy
by acbuescher on October 26, 2011
Pros: Screen is beautiful, swype is an awesome keyboard, browser is super fast (I think it is the google chrome browser), live being able to resize widgets, live wallpapers, screen is better than the 10.1, super thin.
Cons: Sometimes buggy, not too many accessories for it yet, only 5 home screens. Should have been a tad chapter.
Summary: For this being my first tablet I am super stoked to have it. I giant spend much on it since I had gift cards but it was worth it! From ...
