Samsung Galaxy Tab (Sprint) price range: $199.99

The good: Samsung's 7-inch Android tablet is a serious contender to the Apple iPad, boasting two cameras, Flash compatibility, and a more convenient size.
The bad: The Tab behaves more like a supersize Android phone than a Netbook alternative. The Android OS and its apps aren't yet optimized for the larger screen. Depending on your plan, you may be in for a two-year contract and a commitment to monthly charges.
The bottom line: The Galaxy Tab is a beautiful product with features that will make iPad owners envious, but its in-between size and possible carrier commitments hold it back from broad appeal.

Looks good but doesn't deliver/review based on UK model
by Vinhasa on October 29, 2010
Pros: Android 2.2, looks, front facing camera, specs
Cons: Android 2.2, size, actual performance, cameras very low quality, flash, battery life

Summary: Well, obviously Google was right when they said 2.2 isn't ready for tablets. I'm wondering if that is the reasoning behind only 7" because anything bigger would really show off the short comings of the OS. I know people say Gingerbread will be released soon, but with Samsung's history (they still haven't released 2.2 for their Galaxy S phones) I don't expect to see that updated for another year or so.
Wow, getting blasted here for making real review from personal experience with an actual unit versus a guessamation of what I think it can do/how it preforms. I notice how not 1 single review all the 5 star ones thus far is from someone that is using or has the Galaxy Tab. Let me rephrase, I think it is currently the best Android tablet on the market, however I personally wish I had waited per the above reasons for a better tablet.
Performance is sluggish as well, especially for what it is listed with. It feels like it is running on a 600Mhz processor, not a 1Ghz. Even the touch performance is annoying. During pinch to zoom and scrolling, there a delay between what your fingers do and what the screen is doing. It's definitely not smooth. It doesn't seem like much at first, but after awhile I start to hate it. Also at times the unit gets hot even though it doesn't seem to be doing much.
Under use, battery died less than 5 hours from fully charged. Couldn't even last half the trip from Heathrow to JFK.
The cameras are low quality. They are there, but the pictures they take are grainy, washed out, and can't differentiate between light and dark areas. My old Droid1 takes much better photos, and at least that was portable and easier to hold. Also, video chat is very laggy.
Flash is crappy, it can take almost a minute at times on a wi-fi network to load a page that has flash ads installed. Yeah, I know you can turn flash off, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of advertising how great flash is? Although I am finding that almost all the real flash based sites are also in HTML5.
I guess in retro spec I should have waited for a better Android tablet. Not happy with this one.

Absolute iPad Killer, must have device!!!
by Ricky-A on December 8, 2010
Pros: adobe flash 10.1, think free office (which means word, excel, and powerpoint), android apps, camera's, and I have heard that you can download an emulator and run old nintendo and sega games on it.
Cons: battery life and fingerprint magnet

Summary: You don't buy a car that can only drive on certain roads at a certain speed, or only compatible with manufacturer's accessories. So why would you buy a tablet that will only perform the functions the manufacturer allows it to (Apple iPad), with Samsung's android based tablet you are limited to your creativity! The device will do anything the hardware and operating system can handle, and with a 1GHz processor, Powervr SGX540 Graphics Card, 512MB RAM... well you have a lot of capabilities!!!
I would like to comment that if you truly intend for your tablet to be portable and on the go with you at all times 7"-8" is the MAX. a 10" tablet is amazing to have around the house to play with, but you can't put that thing on your person, you have to have a briefcase or backpack to carry it. The 7" size of the Galaxy Tab is perfect as it allows it to be portable, I put it in my back pocket or coat pocket and I'm off! There is not way I could throw an iPad in my pocket or coat, and if I'm carry a backpack to lug it around then I may as well throw a netbook in there.
I use it to browse the web (full desktop browsing with Dolphin HD), check e-mail, read pdf files, read kindle books, stay in touch with social media, and perform various school functions (excel and powerpoint).... Hands down an amazing device!!!!!

Stripped, Hamstrung and Hobbled

Summary: What could have been a real iPad killer has been painstakingly whittled down to an obsolete brick. Sprint has not only stripped it of it's one unique redeeming feature, phone capability, but placed a ridiculously low data usage cap of 2GB or 5GB a month...for a device that is designed to be an online communicator! Someone needs to grab the Sprint execs by the neck and shake them till they come to their senses.

Great device but not an ipad killer

Summary: First off, I own both the ipad ant the Galaxy Tab. I also have the galaxy S phone that is the exact same as the tablet. I bought the tab because I like the phone so much. Both ipad and galaxy tab have their own place in this market. I use the ipad at home and when we go out with the kids to dinner or to entertain them. I use the galaxy tab in the car as a gps, entertainment system. They dont compete with each other for use, they each have their own job to do. The tab has some quirky behavior at times but I think that will be resolved, they have already updated the firmware since I bought it a couple weeks ago. When the battery gets down around 15 to 20 percent the device starts to get a little unstable. It will stop responding to touch and the side buttons will respond very slowly. The cameras are great. clear and crisp photos from the main camera, slightly grainy photos for the front facing camera. Skype and other programs dont work so well right now but they are working on better intergration. Overall a great device especially for the price, a third of my ipad price. Just think about what you will use it for and buy the right device for your use. No need to argue over ipad or tab, they are both great at what they do.

Summary: Voice activated turn by turn navigation, video conferencing or just playing around with the front camera, a mid-level main camera, all of the Flash content on the web including thousands of free games, the freedom of Android (move files without iTunes!), and the guilt-free conscience of not selling out to the man (Apple). Sounds good to me.

Super Machine without all the limitations of the Ipad!
by djcooke68 on December 26, 2010
Pros: You name it,... fast, amazing touch screen and display, perfectly portable, flash, USB, acts as a hotspot, blue tooth, swype, gps nav, dual camera, feature rich and solid quality machine that does it all.... (expect netflix yet).
Cons: No netflix yet...

Summary: I'm no expert review writer. I'll just tell you I bought an Ipad and returned it because I need more than facebook and media. I need to browse flash enabled sites, integrate with my pc, view business docs, use usb devices, and I just couldn't live with Ipad limitations. Couldn't even manage advertising accounts online... spent hours searching the net trying to find out if there were work-arounds to make it do all I needed for it to do...
I then bought a Zenithink apad but only paid $250 for it and got what I paid for. OS didn't come pre-installed and created issues and machine was cheap.
The galaxy is everything i wanted it to be and more! I'm amazed at everything it does and haven't had a single large limitation with it other than I like netflix and it isn't available yet. Voice recognition, panorama camera, video conferencing, I'm able to go to the sites I want to go to and actually interact with them and the battery, lightweight yet solid construction and ability to stick it in a pocket, (but screen large enough to browse comfortably or watch a movie, I am just thrilled with this machine.
Don't pay attention to what a couple of the bashers said about the galaxy, try it out for yourself. For me and all I want to be able to do with it, it's has many advantages over the Ipad I returned. That's my real-world experience.4 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

EVERYTHING I want and need
by Call_Me on February 6, 2011
Pros: Reduces the "stuff" I need to carry around: camera, netbook, e-reader. FUN to use! Perfect size. Easy to learn.
Cons: None. None. NONE...for how I use it. Couldn't care less that the phone has been disabled.

Summary: First, I am NOT Anti-Apple. I am, however, Anti-Monolopy. I only chose to NOT buy an iPad because I was waiting for some serious competition to Apple, so that as a consumer, I could have and make a choice. I had been doing research on new tablet releases for 4 months prior to my buying my Samsung Galaxy Tablet on it's release date in November. EVERYTHING I read and watched suggested that for my applications, it would be a better choice than an iPad. WHY???? 1) Much smaller size! I know that Steve Jobs is a "7 inch hater" but for me, it's size is flawless. Larger than a smart phone, smaller than an iPad, it could easily be held onto, not as awkward to hold, and could readily be concealed in the glove box or jacket pocket, for security purposes. Also, I've discoverd that it fits into 99% of my purses, a real plus! 2) ALL of my previous experience is with Sony and Microsoft products and I know that Apple will NOT allow those files to go onto their products! So, my 189 Sony Ebooks that I paid for wouldn't transfer, nor the 100's of paid for songs on my Zune. With the Gal-Tab, I now have saved a literal couple of thousand dollars, transfering my files from my Sony Reader and Zune to my Gal-Tab. Try THAT with an iPad! 3) The Android OS is amazingly intuitive and easy to learn! It took me 3 weeks of having my Gal-Tab before I needed to open up the Manual; I could puzzle and figure out how to use almost every single feature because the OS is so "User Friendly". 4) Sheer Coolness Factor! As I walk around the grocery store with my shopping app or am at a bus stop, reading with my Kindle app, the Gal-Tab draws admiring coments! It's just fun, every once in a while, to have the "neatest/coolest/newest gadget out there." LOL 5) Being able to take phhotos for clients, attach them to an email, and send it off...immediately! I own my own landscape firm (21 years in business). Being able to directly take videos or photos of a job site, send them to the client to update them or get approval on another facet of the job is MONEY IN THE BANK!!! Impossible to do with the iPad!!! 6) Expandable storage and SD cards! I have over 10,000 photos in my laptop, of various jobs I've done. I now have multiple files downloaded into an SD card, so I can show new clients and returning clients my work, all the while playing some smooth jazz on Pandora while they are holding the Gal-Tab and flicking through the jobs! Being able to hold and pass around the shots, just like a real photo album is brilliant...and the clients get a kick out of playing with the expandable screen! I also ask them "What's your favourite MOOD music?", so I can queue up Pandora. Let me tell you, they LOVE that trick! Since owning the Gal-Tab almost 3 months now, I've landed 5 accounts with it! Paid for itself with the 1st new client presentation!!!
I'm fully aware that the current 2.2 OS was deveolped for Smartphones. Also aware that with Honeycomb and the dual-core processor, my current model will soon be a dinosaur. No biggie. I'll gift this model to my 23 year old daughter and instantly buy a new Galaxy Tablet when that one comes out! LOVE my Gal-Tab!!!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
