The good: The Sony Dash delivers a personalized buffet of news, music, and video from across the Web, packed into a 7-inch touch-screen display.
The bad: For all its features, nothing about the Dash really stands out as a pillar function. The built-in speakers are wimpy. You can't run it using batteries. Touch-screen sensitivity is sluggish.
The bottom line: The Sony Dash is a fun device for tech enthusiasts looking to cram the Web into every corner of their homes, but it's not a fit for everyone.

Summary: Once again Sony got close, but no cigar. The lack of a browser means I still need to utilize my notebook or smartphone to check e-mail or to surf the web: It would have been ever so simple for Sony to have included this feature: My unit was returned to Bestbuy: I will purchase an audio base for my IPOD Touch and use it on my bedstand: The Dash is a product one can do without; its price point is ridiculous when measure against provided features: What is its design niche?
If I wanted a digital picture frame I would have acquired one; it is not a portable MP3 player; it is an alarm clock/ news headline briefer?

by drdimick on December 11, 2010
Pros: Chumby apps work great, instant wireless weather, slacker etc
Cons: Poor speaker, bought HP netbooks speakers for fantastic audio

I had no problem setting mine up and since the latest firmware upgrades the channels update pretty quickly. As a bedside media station the only gripe I have is no ipod compatibility like the other chumbys. Can't have it all I guess.
Hopefully it will become available soon.
Pros. that couldn't fit above:Can access facebook and youtube without my computer.
* Can play mp3 from a non-ipod player
* Looks sexy in my bedroom and on my night stand!

Summary: It does not have any real purpose. It also doesn't have a web browser which is weird because it is a personal internet viewer. It also is not priced fairly because it is worthless. The ipad can do all the thing the dash is supposed to do and more. I would not recommend this product to ANYBODY.

Not a bad gadget for $70 (NewEgg deal)
by silvertank on July 1, 2011
Pros: Well designed case and bright screen, good developer support, flexible system, USB support, decent little speakers, established community (Chumby), free apps, built-in apps are excellent
Cons: Slow startup, automatic light adjustment is not very good, requires software update right out of the box, some of the outside apps are a bit lame and unstable, USB won't read external hard drives, requires some time to get the outside the apps to work cor

Summary: You can really tell the winners from the whiners when you read these reports. The whiners compare this to a $400 ipad and moan about features that were never promised. The winners take this little box and make it shine. The question is, which one are you? Look, this is a very simple gadget but yet very powerful. It can digest about any content and just takes a few tweaks to be very useful. No it's not a web browser, but neither is your old clock radio. It's like ESPN SportsCenter for all your inportant info. It quickly presents what you need, then moves to the next info. When it hits the end, it repeats. If you don't want that, it will happily be a clock radio till you need it.
I think this is a perfect nightstand gadget to give me news, appointments and email in the morning, and maybe some sleeping music at night. I think people need to focus on what it does do, not what it doesn't. It's well built and well designed, just don't compare it to something that costs 4 times as much.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Not at all integrative with any other device.Summary: Don't waste your money. Just buy a normal alarm clock and you'll be much happier.
