Toshiba Thrive (8GB) price range: $230.00

The good: The Toshiba Thrive's very aggressive pricing gives it an advantage over most other tablets. Its grooved back, full HDMI and USB support, full SD card slot, and replaceable battery justify its very bulky design. Also, its built-in file management system makes finding and accessing files in Honeycomb easier.
The bad: The Thrive's bulky design and hefty weight are not for everyone. Also, awkward back camera placement and a difficult panel removal process make us wish more time had been spent in the design phase. The LED lights on the bezel can be distracting.
The bottom line: The Toshiba Thrive is a bulky but aggressively priced Honeycomb tablet that earns its girth with full port support and a removable battery.

The versatile media and GPS tablet
by DSDSDSDSDSDSDSDS on August 4, 2011
Pros: With some free video players from the Android Market, it can play anything you throw at it even through the HDMI connection.
GPS with the right third party software that stores maps locally will make this a GPS navigation device.Cons: Playing videos and using GPS may draw a lot of power.
Summary: If you run MX VideoPlayer, it will run every video file imaginable (DivX/XviD, mkv, subtitles, etc.) from your SD card or USB hard drive.

Another player called Daroon Player will even play DVD files from the storage drive with DVD menus.
A GPS app like copilotlive with locally stored maps will make this a GPS navigation device.
Who needs a built-in DVD car entertainment center when you can do it all with this device.
The rubber grip will make it easier for your kids to hold onto this thing on long car trips.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Fantastic Emulator Tablet
by Vaclon on August 28, 2011
Pros: Emulators work fantastic on the Thrive PS3 and Xbox controllers work on the 4droid series of emulators
mouse and Keyboard support at the same time through the use of a splitter make docking the thrive and using it as a tablet and a desktop possible.
GooCons: HDMI doesnt transfer audio reliably; at times it can cut out the sound. unsure if this was a problem with the television; cable; or thrive but happened more than once.
Battery life is the same as my Xperia play; not a major issue for my but for other useSummary: The Toshiba Thrive is a fantastic tablet; it genuinely is everything i need in a device. Removable battery, a fast processor and great UI, and hardware that plays nice with ...

If the Xperia Play is my PSP equivalent than the Toshiba Thrive is my Ps3. With more power to harness and controller support the Thrive is a perfect device to use for a portable-powerful gaming urge.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Bought the 16GB Thrive the day it came out and havent been able to put it down since. Its very responsive, great screen. Very happy with it so far and really like that it has everything in one tablet that a lot of the other tablets are missing. Bought the 16GB and saved $100, with the removable media slot you can add the extra 16GB and more for less than $100.

Has everything I want PLUS!
by JohnTar on February 6, 2012
Pros: Connectivity very good with a range of choices not found on any of the other tablets I looked at.
Fast screen; very responsive and accurate to tap, touch and slide commands.
Good range of brightness control, colour and excellent gaming capabilities.Cons: "Slow boot-up of about 20 seconds": But so does my new laptop: Intel Core i5, with 8 gigs of RAM, so who is complaining?
"Fairly heavy and bulky": but I weigh 13 stones and stand 6 feet tall - if it ever got too heavy for me I'd probably be dead!Summary: There are some very good reviews of this tablet to be found on the Internet. Summary: There are some very good reviews of this tablet to be found on the Internet. Sadly, very few of them are by professional reviewers... However, many of the good reviews come from folk who actually USE the tablet in their workaday occupations. They like the positive points that I've mentioned above: weight and size rarely are issues, and if you've actually seen and held the tablet before buying it you will KNOW that it is heavier and bulkier than other tablets, and if that point is so important then don't buy it! Yes, there WERE software problems when the machine was first introduced, but they have been ironed out now. It is sad, in my opinion, that the professional reviewers STILL harp on about these issues, and the Toshiba Thrive (AT100-100 in Europe) isn't the only machine to suffer from those derogatory comments. At the end of the day it is YOUR opinion that matters - read, look and see is my advice! Good luck.

Don't waste your money !
by finalquest on January 22, 2012
Pros: Graphics are fantastic.
Cons: Crippled after last OTA update. Not everything works as it should. Very slow response. Horrible boot time. GPS is next to non-exitant. Weighs as much as a brick. Overpriced. Lousy support.

Summary: Please don't waste your money. You can find a faster, lighter, better tablet with better support with a different brand. After the last OTA update some functions were crippled. Can you rollback ? Nope. Rooting this thing is a bear. It's very slow to boot, has bad overall speed and the GPS is horrible at best. Ports, yep, it has them but they don't function the way they should and who formats sd cards in ex-fat?!?!? The weight is incredible which will fatigue some users. It weighs as much as a brick. With this weight you would expect the charge to last a week but 22 hours is about the norm. Toshiba opted not to use Gorilla glass so be forwarned. For the size, weight and capability you are actually better off with a netbook. Toshiba could make things right with the customers that have been crippled by the OTA but they're not listening or responding. I'm getting ready to e-bay this thing as it is the worst example of a tablet I've had my hands on recently. A bad product, bad support and overpriced.

Can't watch Hulu programming
Can't watch an MP4 downloaded from Dropbox that plays fine on a Windows 7 laptop and a 9 year old Mac running OS 10.4
Can't open a tiff file from a Mac
Download files show up in unpredictable time intervals from 5 secs. to 15 mins
File movement require a tedious multi-step click process that existed 15+ years ago
The list of can'ts is about another 9 items
Toshiba customer support is not the least bit helpful but sends me lots of sales oitches.
This is the worst operating system I have ever been mislead into buying
